Chapter 2099: He Miscalculated
Jia Heming and the other secretaries trembled with fear, huddling close to Shao Yunduan. Six guards ford a protective circle around them, brandishing their swords.
Chaos erupted at the city gate!
Constable Li inwardly cursed his misjudgnt.
He had underestimated the situation!
Believing the warehouse guards to be Anze Province’s elite force sent by Prefect Shao, he had been sorely mistaken. His ignorance of the province proved costly!
Regret gnawed at him, but it was too late.
The commotion drew the attention of the city gate guards and the patrol team, sending Constable Li into a panic. Ah-Ye’s fist landed forcefully on his face, sending him crashing to the ground. Before he could rise, a gleaming blade pressed against his throat…
Screams, clashes of tal, and thuds of bodies hitting the ground echoed. None of the bailiffs accompanying Constable Li survived; they were either slain or captured.
Anze Prefecture City’s denizens bristled with cold fury.
Their audacity knew no bounds! The attempt to abduct Lord Shao, the esteed Prefect, by the constables of the magistrate’s office warranted dire consequences. They were ready to te out justice swiftly and rcilessly.

“Lord! You’re injured!” Jia Heming’s sudden cry startled everyone. They turned to see Shao Yunduan’s left sleeve stained with blood, his hand clutching the wound.
“Are you alright, my Lord?”
“Do you need assistance?”
“Quickly, fetch a doctor!”
“Yes, yes, hurry!”
Shao Yunduan had managed to conceal his injury amidst the chaos. All eyes were fixed on the skirmish, oblivious to his plight.
Yet, a wave of pain surged through him. Beads of sweat ford on his brow, his complexion paling.
He waved off their concerns with a determined voice, “It’s nothing but a scratch. Fear not, my friends. I shall return ho. Deputy Prefect Jia, I entrust this matter to you!”
“Of course, my Lord. You can count on !”
As Shao Yunduan retreated into the city, Ah-Ye and his n trailed behind.
Jia Heming’s gaze swept over the captives, settling on Constable Li.
Bound and helpless, Constable Li seethed with sha and resentnt under Jia Heming’s hostile stare.
Regret gnawed at him. He shouldn’t have lost his temper. Raising his head defiantly, he locked eyes with Jia Heming.
“If Lord Shao had obeyed the Prefect’s orders and gone to the provincial city, none of this would have happened. He defied the Prefect’s authority, not ! The fault lies with him!”
Jia Heming’s sneer morphed into a stern scold, “Silence him and take him away!”
Stubbornness won’t serve you well. There are nurous ways to discipline you.
Even if Prefect Liu held authority, Lord Shao was an official of the imperial court. What gave Prefect Liu the right to degrade others in such a manner?
He harbored nefarious intentions!
Upon Shao Yunduan’s return to the eastern yard of the state office, Qiao Xuan sprang into action, swiftly ordering water, clean clothes, and dicinal ointnt.
Thankfully, the doctor arrived promptly, examining Shao Yunduan’s wound. He assured that it wasn’t poisoned and hadn’t affected bones or muscles. With ointnt application and two days of rest and dication, the inflammation would subside, and the wound would heal.
