Chapter 2054: This Matter Is Strange
Upon learning that strawberries could be cultivated in the northwest, Yuan Mi asked Qiao Xuan if they could take so ho.
Qiao Xuan readily agreed with a smile.
Tang Fanghua and her servant quietly trailed behind, their presence enough to indicate their desire to participate. Lvi, once the most competitive, now remained subdued, her forr outspokenness replaced by caution.
Tang Fanghua longed to please Qiao Xuan but hesitated to speak up. Despite her uncertainty about Qiao Xuan and Shao Yunduan’s expectations, she couldn’t bear to stay behind. To her, not joining would an forfeiting any chance of redemption—an unacceptable loss.
Regardless of her repentance, Tang Fanghua understood the futility of her efforts. Even her past act of saving a life seed irrelevant now. Yet, she clung to the hope of fulfillnt, despite knowing it was a futile endeavor.
Qiao Xuan prepared a delectable dinner featuring Qi’s favorite dishes from ho: boiled at slices, four-happiness atballs, stir-fried double crisps, stead mandarin fish, and prawns with eggplant juice.
As Qi savored the familiar flavors, his eyes sparkled with surprise and delight, recognizing Fifth Sister-in-law’s culinary touch.
Qiao Xuan chuckled with satisfaction, remarking that her doting on him wasn’t without reason.
Later that night, Qiao Xuan anticipated Shao Yunduan and Qi catching up into the wee hours, but as she settled Anan to sleep and prepared for bed herself, Shao Yunduan returned unexpectedly.
Surprised, Qiao Xuan queried, “Aren’t you planning to catch up with Qi? I thought you two would talk until midnight, given all these years apart.”
Shao Yunduan grinned, reassuring her, “Qi will be around for a few more days, don’t worry.”
True to his word, Qi lingered.
After a mont of silence, Shao Yunduan broached the topic, “Don’t you find Miss Tang’s behavior rather peculiar? She doesn’t strike as soone who would conform to typical master-servant dynamics. I can’t fathom why she would sacrifice her life-saving favor to defend that woman.”
Qiao Xuan blurted out, “I also find it unsettling. I’m not one to overlook things easily, and I certainly have no desire to cross paths with Lvying. It’s surprising to see Miss Tang so fiercely protective of her.”
“I even tested her during our conversation. I feigned interest in punishing that maidservant to gauge her reaction. I never anticipated she’d go to such lengths to defend her. It’s straightforward. I’ll send soone to inquire tomorrow.”
In the Anze Province, Shao Yunduan wielded authority, extending even to Qiao Xuan.
Shao Yunduan nodded appreciatively. “Ti is of the essence. Thank you for your efforts tomorrow!”
Qiao Xuan replied with a smile, “It’s no trouble at all. These days have been rather mundane, so it’s refreshing to have sothing interesting to focus on.”
Refusing to budge, Tang Fanghua and Lvi lingered in the backyard of the state governnt office, while Lvying remained holed up in the inn, too afraid to venture out after her previous ordeal.
However, to Lvying’s surprise, Qiao Xuan wasn’t finished with her yet.
The following day, Qiao Xuan instructed the guards to escort Lvying to the yard where Zheng Sangge and the others were staying. They then confined her in an interrogation room for questioning.
