Luo Shu joined the back of the line. Her dormitory had already been arranged in advance by Lu Hanmo. Nonetheless, she still needed her enrollnt notification to collect the dormitory key.
“Hello! Are you all in line to register and collect the dorm keys?” a timid voice reached Luo Shu from behind.
Luo Shu turned to look and saw a girl with two braids, wearing a floral shirt, her face covered in freckles, standing behind her.
Upon seeing Luo Shu’s face, the girl paused montarily, a hint of envy in her eyes.
“Yes,” Luo Shu nodded and then turned back around.
“Thank you!” The girl lowered her head in self-doubt, staring at Luo Shu’s back. Since childhood, her freckles had earned her the label of ‘ugly freak.’ In order to not be looked down upon, she had studied diligently and finally managed to get into the much-envied Jinchen University.
However, whenever people saw her face for the first ti, their eyes invariably showed surprise, mockery, disdain—as if she were so kind of aberration.
She looked up again at Luo Shu, her expression when she had seen her seed different from others’, at least she didn’t see that look in her eyes, just as she couldn’t see the freckles on her own face.
She opened her mouth to speak, finally asking softly, “Hey! Can’t you see it?”
Luo Shu turned around, surprised, “What can’t I see?”
The girl pointed to her face, speaking with a hint of insecurity, “This?” Because of these freckles, she lived every day under the ridicule and contemptuous gazes of others; if she could, she truly wished she could change her face.
“I see them,” said Luo Shu. She naturally noticed the freckles on her face, but what did that have to do with her?
“Don’t you think I’m ugly?” the girl asked again upon seeing Luo Shu’s unchanged expression.
Luo Shu smiled softly and shook her head, “Your eyes are beautiful, it would be even better if you could be a bit more confident.” She always looked at people’s eyes.
“Thank you! My na is ng Yujuan,” ng Yujuan revealed a sincere smile, extending her hand. Luo Shu was the first person to call her beautiful, even though she referred to her eyes, and she was genuinely pleased.
“Hello! I’m Luo Shu,” Luo Shu smiled back, shaking hands with ng Yujuan.
“Luo Shu, where are you from?” ng Yujuan asked. She really wanted to beco friends with Luo Shu.
“Cloud City,” replied Luo Shu.
“I’m from ng Family Village in Jiang City, when you’re free, you could co visit us there, you can see Mu River,” said ng Yujuan excitedly, happy that Luo Shu was willing to chat with her.
“Sure! It’s our turn, let’s catch up,” Luo Shu noticed only two people were left ahead in line.
ng Yujuan nodded with a smile and followed Luo Shu.
A middle-aged woman was responsible for the registration. She took a glance at the enrollnt notification Luo Shu handed her, and a flattering smile appeared on her face. She took a key from a basket beside her and handed it to Luo Shu, “Luo Shu, this is the key to your dormitory, please keep it safe!” Generally, those with dormitories arranged in advance co from families with connections. At Jinchen, there are innurable important figures. Thus, even they, the little people, sotis had to tread carefully, fearful of inadvertently offending soone they shouldn’t.
“Thank you!” Luo Shu took the key and stepped aside.
ng Yujuan stepped forward and handed her admission notice to the middle-aged woman.
The middle-aged woman glanced at ng Yujuan, disdained and pursed her lips, picked sothing from a nearby basket, and threw a set of keys to ng Yujuan. Her attitude was entirely different from how she had treated Luo Shu before.
“Thank you!” ng Yujuan had already grown used to such attitudes from others. But still, her heart felt sowhat heavy.
Turning around, she saw Luo Shu standing by, waiting for her, and she felt a slight touch of emotion. She walked over and said with a smile, “Let’s go check out our dormitory. I’m really looking forward to it!”
Luo Shu had intended to say a quick goodbye to ng Yujuan before looking for Lu Hanmo and the others, but seeing her face full of anticipation and looking at her, she smiled, “Let’s go!” She had also seen the dismissive attitude of the middle-aged woman handling the registration. But there was nothing to be done about such things; people always favored beautiful things and held unconscious prejudices against things that were flawed.
Arriving at the dormitory building, ng Yujuan rushed toward her dorm. Her room was in the first building, on the second floor, on the east side, the very last one.
“Luo Shu, don’t you have any luggage?” It was only then that ng Yujuan noticed Luo Shu had nothing in her hands.
“I’ll move my stuff over in a couple of days,” Luo Shu said with a smile. She needed to check on Yun Han’s situation first.
“Do you want to check out my dorm first?” ng Yujuan pointed in the direction of her dorm. Luo Shu’s room was further back, where, she heard, the environnt was better.
“Sure!” Luo Shu nodded. She wasn’t all that curious about the dorms; whether she saw them today or in a couple of days made no difference to her.
“Then let’s head over,” ng Yujuan said happily.
Pushing open the dorm door, they saw two girls inside, both dressed simply.
Seeing ng Yujuan enter, one of the girls exaggeratedly clutched at her heart and exclaid, “Soone help! Thank goodness it’s dayti. If it were night, I might have been scared to death by you.”
The other girl glanced at ng Yujuan with a hint of disdain in her eyes, then lowered her head to continue reading her book. They had both arrived the day before.
A touch of sadness flickered in ng Yujuan’s eyes. She timidly smiled at them and said, “Hello! I am ng Yujuan.”
However, as if they hadn’t heard her at all, the two didn’t acknowledge ng Yujuan’s presence.
Luo Shu reached out and patted ng Yujuan’s shoulder. “I’ll help you get settled in.”
“Okay!” ng Yujuan nodded with a smile. eting Luo Shu was what made her happiest this ti.
“Are you a new roommate too? Hello! I’m Yang Li.” Seeing Luo Shu, Yang Li’s eyes lit up as she introduced herself with a smile.
“I’m Li Xiaona.” The girl who had been reading a book also raised her head and introduced herself.
Luo Shu nodded faintly and had no intention to introduce herself. Her first impression of them was not very good. ng Yujuan might not be pretty, but they didn’t need to treat her like that. After all, they were going to be roommates in the sa dormitory.
Seeing Luo Shu ignoring her, Yang Li looked sowhat embarrassed. She had heard that dormitory assignnts were done based on background, and anyone placed in this dormitory probably did not co from a very affluent family.
Li Xiaona shifted her gaze back to the book in her hands once more.
