In the delivery room.
An Yan lay on the delivery bed, her forehead damp with dense sweat.
She had prepared herself for the labor pains in advance, but she hadn’t expected them to be so excruciating—worse than being shot.
After examining her, the chief doctor said, "A few days ago, the checkup showed a bit of fingertip dissolution. Now that the water has broken, you’ve dilated three centiters.
After three centiters, dilation will accelerate, and the contractions will beco increasingly intense."
Mrs. Fu, your baby is in a very good position, all head-down. You can try for a natural birth first.
After all, recovery from a natural birth is faster than from a C-section."
An Yan softly humd in acknowledgnt, "Okay, I’ll just wait for the dilation then."
"Is Mr. Fu not here?"
An Yan pursed her lips, "He had sothing urgent and couldn’t make it back."
The chief doctor nodded, "Do you need soone to co in and keep you company? Mrs. Mu seems to be waiting outside."
An Yan thought for a mont, "Then let my mom co in."
The chief doctor said okay and went outside to invite Xu Wanqing.
Xu Wanqing walked in briskly. She sat on the chair next to the delivery bed and took her hand, "Little Five, how are you feeling?"
"I’m fine, pretty good. The doctor said I’ve dilated three centiters already, and it’s going quite fast." An Yan said with a smile.
Xu Wanqing took out a handkerchief to wipe the dense sweat on her forehead, "You just say that because you don’t want mom to worry. You’re in so much pain you’re sweating cold sweat. Your older brother tried contacting Shiyan earlier, but his phone was off. You said you could give birth at any ti; how could he have his phone turned off?"
Hearing Xu Wanqing’s distress for her and the reproach towards Fu Shiyan, An Yan tightened her grip on her hand.
"Mom, don’t bla Ayan. He had more important things to take care of; I asked him to go. He promised he’d be back before I gave birth, but who could have expected things to go awry today." An Yan soothed Xu Wanqing’s emotions, not wanting her family to think poorly of Fu Shiyan.
Xu Wanqing, pained for her daughter, wiped away tears, "What kind of situation is it where a husband is not by his wife’s side when she’s giving birth? No matter the reason, there’s nothing more crucial than his wife giving birth, a matter of life and importance!"
An Yan forced a smile as wave after wave of contraction turned her lips pale, "Mom, Ayan wants to co back too. Once he returns, I’ll have him apologize to you. Okay? Please, don’t cry."
Xu Wanqing sighed, "What good does apologizing to do? He should be apologizing to you! You’re bearing his child, and childbirth is such an ordeal!"
She sniffed, "Ah, why am I saying all this? I’m here to encourage you."
An Yan laughed out loud, "Mom, you really are adorable."
Xu Wanqing also smiled, "Still adorable even though I’m an old lady. Do you want so chocolate? Otherwise, you might not have the energy when it’s ti to give birth, and you’re having twins, too!"
An Yan shook her head, "I can’t eat. Tell stories about my brothers when they were little."
Xu Wanqing nodded and began to recount so interesting tales.
Like how Mu Shaoci used to lay on eggs to hatch chicks and ended up covered in eggshells and egg whites.
Mu Boyan, even as a child, would hold a stethoscope and listen to a swan’s heartbeat, only to end up pinched by the swan.
And Mu Qianfan often did Mu Shaoze’s makeup, once making the area around his eyes a blue-gray color, leading people to think Mu Shaoze had been beaten up.
Since Mu Shaoze often wore dresses as a little girl, Mu Qianfan would play bride and groom gas with him.
Listening to one funny story after another, An Yan felt her labor pains seem to ease a bit.
The chief doctor checked in from ti to ti and found that she had dilated five centiters by now.
The intervals between contractions gradually shortened, and the duration of the pains lengthened.
An Yan looked towards Xu Wanqing, "Mom, please go out for a while."
Xu Wanqing knew that An Yan didn’t want her to see her pain, so she raised a smile, "Little Five, stay strong. Dad, Mom, brothers, and Mr. and Mrs. Fu are all outside cheering for you."
An Yan responded with a hum, "Okay."
Once Xu Wanqing left, the smile on An Yan’s face disappeared, replaced by a deeply furrowed brow.
"Ayan, it hurts so much!" She gritted her teeth, clutching the handles on both sides tightly.
anwhile, Fu Shiyan, who was unaware that An Yan was in labor, felt an inexplicable panic.
He composed himself and continued to search for Gu Chengming’s figure.
He had just shot the man in the thigh, so he couldn’t have gone far.
The sea was just ahead. Where could Gu Chengming possibly escape to?
Suddenly, a figure flickered in the distance.
Fu Shiyan chased after it, scaling the rugged rocks, and finally stopped above a cliff by the sea.
The waves crashed below the cliff, appearing cold and rciless under the silver moonlight.
The sea breeze tousled his slightly disheveled hair, and his handso, aloof face bore a cold, ruthless expression. His peach blossom eyes reflected the icy chill of the winter night.
He saw Gu Chengming holding a gun to the temple of a woman whose hands were bound behind her back, and the woman bore a striking resemblance to An Yan, even sharing her pregnant belly.
Fu Shiyan’s fingers trembled as he held his gun, "Let her go."
The woman shouted, "No! Ayan! Don’t worry about ! Kill him!"
Fu Shiyan’s heart sank—it was An Yan’s voice.
Gu Chengming’s malicious laughter rang out, "How about that! You didn’t expect this, did you! In the end, she fell into my hands! How’s that for three lives with one death? Fu Shiyan, either you kill yourself and I’ll spare her, or you live and she dies, no, they all die!"
Fu Shiyan’s ears were filled with the man’s threats and the woman pleading for him not to choose her.
Gu Chengming snorted, "What, you doubt this isn’t Mu Anyan? Fine, then experience the consequences of your doubt."
Without hesitation, he shot the woman in the thigh.
The woman endured the pain without a scream, simply continuing to desperately plead, "Ayan, kill him!"
Fu Shiyan felt a twisting pain in his heart, his breathing rapid, "Don’t hurt her!"
Gu Chengming pressed the gun against the woman’s pregnant belly, his face twisted malevolently, "Shoot your own legs, or I’ll blow up her belly! Let’s send the two little ones inside to et King Yan first!"
Fu Shiyan doubted the woman’s identity, but he had no ti to discern the truth. He couldn’t take the risk.
His voice was hoarse and trembling, "Don’t hurt her, I’ll do as you say."
Without hesitation, he shot each of his thighs.
With a thud, he knelt on the ground, the color draining from his face.
He dropped the gun, lifting bloodshot eyes, "Let her go, do with as you will."
Gu Chengming watched the once-high and mighty man kneeling before him, feeling an overwhelming rush of excitent and thrill.
"Crawl over here, kneel! Hurry up! Or else I’ll burst her belly!"
The woman couldn’t hold back her tears, "Ayan, no! Don’t!"
Fu Shiyan painfully crawled forward on his knees, each movent feeling as if his legs were being crushed.
As he drew close, Gu Chengming laughed maniacally and raised his gun to aim at Fu Shiyan’s forehead, "Go to hell!"
