"You two can go ahead of . I think I won't be tracking much more. Plus, this is a better place for to fight." Clark and Maria were not sure why Jerold was trying to stop here and let the two of them keep moving. It didn't make sense.
"Can you two really not notice them? They are using the sa kind of camouflage that I use with my partner. I am pretty sure they are rainbow chaleon monsters too. About seven of them." Jerold just calmly said this. From what he could tell, if he spoke calmly and quietly, the enemies could not hear him yet.
"And you want us to just leave you behind and go to the next floor?" Marisa was worried that they would need Jerold on the seventh floor. It was a more dangerous floor and they were still following a larger group.
"Yes, I can handle them. Just leave be for now and when the others catch up, I will be there. I can barely hear the commotion as the soldiers make their way through the beginning of the floor." Jerold made a good point while he prepared himself. He was checking his daggers and sensing the energies his partner had ready to provide him.
Looking more carefully, Clark spotted the differences within the stones ahead. The wall had narrowed where the stairs were to the next floor. Where the walls were more narrow, the rocks were darker and lighter brown. It could be written off as just the way that the dungeon walls were. However, he knew very well that assuming that was a large risk.
'Poison demi chaleon- monster
This is a monster that has taken on the form of a human but covered in scales. The chaleon like head also gives away the majority of what it has lost when it chose to beco a monster. The tar decided to sacrifice the ntality of their beast to take the benefits of the skills.
Since they fused with their rainbow chaleons, they gained the ability to use the scales on their body to blend in to the its surroundings. This is all to be able to use their tongue which has been forcefully modified to be sharp instead of sticky as a rainbow chaleon's would be. This is a thod to insect poisons on top of a swound created by the very sa tongue.
The dangers are high because the poisons created are based on the slight light affinity that cos with the rainbow chaleon. As such, the poison is harder to purify and even needs a small amount of dark energy to counter it first. Not many light type beasts have poisons like this and it is normally only possible through mutation…'
More aspects of the physicality of these monsters were written in the analysis after this. But Clark realized why the blood moon cultists might have chased Jerold when he had been left behind. Maybe they weren't after him. Maybe there wasn't really other trouble. Maybe they were hunting for more body guard assassins like this.
The ideal monsters to leave behind and defend an area. Even if soone snuck passed them, as long as they poisoned them, the ga was over. They would be the winners since their boss would be facing extrely weakened opponents.
When Maria and Clark looked at him again to wonder if he was actually going to do this, they realized that Jerold had already blended in with the surroundings.
The difference between these monsters just using the rainbow chaleon's ability to blend in to its surroundings and the armored chaleon's partner form…well, it was even more striking than night and day.
Jerold could hide so much more than just his appearance. He had been with scouts learning what ca with the job of tracking. By doing so, he had learned to take many aspects of nature in to account.
The terrain that he would also be leaving a mark on. The wind that could carry scent, that included the minute flows of air within a cave or an enclosed space. The sound she made while moving, including his own clothing. Even the fact that his energy could alert the ones he was hiding from. He could isolate it and keep it hidden for short tis.
This was why these monsters stood out to him like sore thumbs. Not only because he knew the rainbow chaleon characteristics like the back of his hand. No, just because his partner had once been that beast did not an anything. He knew because he could sense the energies and the sheer killing intent of all these monsters waiting for them.
That was why he was able to easily sneak up to one of the seven closest to the next floor's staircase. When he stabbed it in the back of the neck, it had no idea he had even been there. But the sudden sound of its body hitting the ground was enough to make the other six react.
None of these monsters had ever had an opponent defeat them before they had attacked them first. While they had seen their fellow assassin guards be killed, it was always after poisoning their targets. But their targets were now sprinting ahead while one of them was already dead.
Wore off yet. They didn't know how!
As another close to the stairs fell down with their throat slit, the remaining five gave up on hiding entirely. They started to strike out around the air where their fellow, would be, ambush partner was. But it had no effect. They could not see the opponent that was attaining them. The two running toward them dodged to the sides and ran right past them.
As one of the remaining monsters tried to hit them in the back with its sharp poison tongue, the tongue was sliced off causing the monster to begin screeching in pain. That was until its throat was slit as well.
"You should all realize that I can see you and you can't see . Two facts. One you accepted, one you failed to accept." Jerold spoke with cold intimidation.
He had not done so much before, but he was told that if he was ever caught while scouting, show them evil. Show them the worst you can. Tornt them. Scare them. Make them think that they stumbled upon the worst opponent possible.
Only then, when they have caused themselves ntal stress enough, you attack them and remove the threat to your scouting missing. If it's multiple opponents, then give it everything you have to make them chaotic. Soone will attack their ally. Chaos breeds accidents.
These pieces of advice had been from multiple elven scouts and human scouts. Jerold had learned from both.
While so were hunters, others were scouts as soldiers. The hunters followed nature more. They were not hunting people or gathering information on people. The soldiers saw everything they did as a life or death mission for the betternt of their people. Their mind sets were different.
Sotis they had to get him no matter what with information. Therefore, they had the ntality that if they got caught, they would not back down. So the best way to escape or to defeat their target, would be to intimidate them. To scare them.
As the remaining monsters tried to hit him in attacks, they grew more wild. The next poison demi chaleon that moved, Jerold gave him a push. This sent him right in to the whipping tongue of their ally.
The attack cut them down one entire arm. The tongue leaving both the cut and so poison on their own ally caused an imdiate gut reaction to an attack. The pushed monster whipped their own tongue out trying to strike what had hit them. That left two weakened and fighting one another monster.
In the next blink of an eye, the non fighting monsters had their throat slit while Jeorld began to enjoy the fact that he was erasing guaranteed dangers from hurting his friends. He's co a long way to build a proper friendship with all of them. To overco his own faults.
Now he had also stepped above many others in his strength. Found the role for him within his group. Able to stand for better values. These were just foolish monsters that desired a horrible world.
"You beca monsters and let your minds intact. Clark was looking at you with a lot more anger in your eyes. And from your movents, you are baited like humans. It makes a lot of sense. Clark only gets that angry look when he is facing a real monster. Soone who also causes pain to their partners."
The last two injured monsters had finally broken. They were bleeding. They had just hard allies by accident. And now, a voice had co from sowhere in the shadows. They knew they were dead before they had even felt their hearts stop. Not that Jerold cared about this.
He and his armored chaleon were insulted that weak monsters thought they could ever have a shot at spotting them.
