---------------------
The headmaster knew how important this issue was and didn't dare take the situation lightly. Even after many tis of seeing this done, his heart was beating quickly. But, just as the orb had dimd and turned off, the sky in the Dark Abyss Chasm was waning, as the effects were quick.
Within the black temple, Avrin’s eyes shot open. This was also the mont his clock rung to notify him that it was the sixth day.
The mont it had rung, Avrin had vanished from sight, with only a bit of ash showing that he used to be there. He Void Stepped passed the door, but only a few seconds were needed for the orb to glow brightly again and emit mana.
The energy from the Grandmasters alone was insignificant. The orb itself obtained its energy from a different source. The energy the Grandmasters siphoned in was to empower a strange magic that this orb obtained its energy from. This magic was beyond their understanding and most likely only the superior races such as demons, angels and dragons understood it.
The black fog, which had weakened, had beco a solid mass again. If one were outside, they would be able to see that the fog only rippled slightly, but this was enough for Avrin. The mont the door was in a weakened state, it allowed an opening just large enough for Avrin to Void Step through, and what greeted him was a large space that made his eyes widen in wonder.
It was a square room with each corner containing an obelisk that housed a circular sphere of energy that siphoned mana towards the center. In the center was a square prison that seed to distort like a rift torn in space, with a thin, ragged, dark figure inside. The figure seed weak beyond compare, his arms and legs bound against the walls of the prison with a strange glowing tal running along his body.
So of the mana seed to seep into his torso, just enough to sustain his lifeforce. This figure was the forr demon king, Azrael. Avrin’s Divine Sense carefully searched around for any traps or tricks, and he didn't dare take a step before confirming it was clear.
After spending five minutes standing still and searching, Azrael’s eyes flickered sowhat and his eyelids opened slightly. He gazed out of the field of energy and could barely see a figure in the distance. His ancient voice echoed out with a weak yet angry tone.
“Abad….Abaddon….is that you?…. You despicable scum….your Celestial race...and that cursed Fafnir…. It has been so long...and you have co here...to tornt , I presu?”
Hearing Azrael talk, Avrin shivered a little. He could tell that this being was indeed powerful. This being should be at a level beyond a Sage, and is a Legendary leveled existence, just a step below Sigil wielders dragons. One could say that, most likely, other than those beings, no one could compare to this demon king. If this demon obtained a Sigil weapon, he would be too formidable.
Avrin was very curious. He wanted to know just how strong he was. He had killed a creature of Mythical status, but that was because he lucked out in certain conditions. Thinking about that fight made him shiver, but rembering Astaroth made his very being shake with tension.
Astaroth was a weapon forged by a tal created by the collision of two great gods during the beginning of this universe's life. Most likely even the gods of Seleria would crave and drool over such an oddity.
“I'm not Abbadon. As for tornting you, that depends on how you react to my words.” Avrin stepped forward and neared the center of the prison. Once he got close enough, he stopped. He was two ters away from the rift, but could tell it was dangerous for him to touch at his current level.
“Hmm… Indeed..you're not Abbadon… You look strange….a weird creature.. I have seen many demons...but none like you. You have no aura of mana. Who are you?... You can't possibly be from any of the known races.”
Avrin was stunned by Azrael’s perception. This man was aged and weakened to near death, but was this keen and perceptive. He was truly a force to be reckoned with at his peak. Regardless, Avrin began to speak. “Your daughter sent , to free you.” Avrin’s words echoed within the room. A soft, hoarse laughter sounded out. “Ha….hahaha…. My daughter?.. You're joking.. This is one of Abbadon’s mind gas..”
Avrin didn't react. He knew this demon was here for many years, and most likely lost his mind once or even twice. “Hmmm.. Well, I don’t have to prove anything. I have twenty-four hours to waste here, so let’s talk for a little bit. First, I want to know sothing. You're daughter, Lilia, told that you, several years back, found a living tal. Can you confirm this?”
Azrael grew silent. Listening to Avrin’s words, he didn't seem to be here to talk casually about his life and was interested in this tal. If this was the case, then maybe he really was here to save him. “Y..You're really here..to free ?... My little Lilia sent you?…” Tears welled up in Azrael’s eyes as hope flooded him. As soon as the tears fell onto the floor of the field, they evaporated into nothingness.
Avrin’s expression flickered a little. He felt a little pity for this demon, but he needed to get so answers before he freed him and brewed up a storm. He understood that he won't get answers for a long ti if he released him now. “My question first..then I'll answer yours. This living tal. Do you have it?”
Azrael grew silent for a mont, as life seed to resonate more profoundly within him. “Yes!.. Yes of course I have it… If you free , I will give it to you!”
Avrin’s lips curled into a wide smile and his body shivered a little with anticipation. Another piece of Skytal. By assimilating it and forging it within himself, he will obtain a boost in power and another weapon of imasurable power. That sentence that Azrael gave was enough for him.
“Perfect. Now, if I destroy those four obelisks, you will be freed, correct?” Avrin spoke. Azrael gazed over at the obelisks and his face paled sowhat.
“Indeed.. But the mont they are touched, that wretch Abbadon will co here with great haste, and I am too weak to combat him, let alone him being a Sigil wielder. I wouldn't stand a chance in the first place, even at my peak. How do you plan to save after freeing ?”
Avrin began to think carefully. “-This room is sealed off now, so I can't Void Step. I have the item that Lilia gave , but if I use it, I will definitely be raising suspicion-”
Azrael looked pleadingly at Avrin, afraid he may change his mind and flee. “Stranger...surely you are quite powerful, and my daughter trusted you enough… Please, at least tell if she is ok… How are my people?... Are they all ok?”
Avrin gazed at Azrael carefully and spoke. “Your daughter is fine. In fact, she is just outside of this chasm, and you're people are fine. Do not look down. I can free you and we can both flee easily with no effort. There are a few issues though.”
Azrael quickly spoke as if to help Avrin alleviate these issues. “Stranger, do not feel stressed. These issues...what are they?” Hearing Azrael’s words, Avrin gave a soft breath. “Well, the issue is I still have plans for myself in the Empire, but I can also let you flee by yourself and still manage to escape here with my life intact. Though I'm not willing.”
Looking at Avrin with a strange expression, Azrael spoke. “S..Stranger, why...don't you let escape with just if you can flee by yourself?... Surely it makes sense?” As Azrael seed to be on the brink of his third madness, Avrin chuckled quietly. “The simple answer is I don't know you much nor do I trust you… You may go into hiding for god knows how many years, and I will be left without my reward.”
Azrael’s face grew a little green. “You.. Such greed..” Azrael chuckled, not sure whether Avrin was ssing with him. Those words he spoke was a tornt in itself.
“You have my word….my honor, and the honor of my deceased wife, and my daughter Lilia, that I will help you get that living tal if you free …” Avrin looked in Azrael’s eyes and took a deep breath. Shutting his eyes for a mont, Avrin nodded.
“Then I'll trust you. I'm not sure how we will et up again, though. I did a bit of reading. If you know Abbadon is the wielder of a Sigil weapon, which were created long after you were imprisoned here, it ans he has co here before to tornt you. I don't know much about Sigil weapons, but I know that the elves and humans have them.
I can assu the other races have them too. Your god is Zephioron, correct? I'm sure he would cry foul if all races but yours were given these weapons. So let’s assu your race has one too. If I'm going to trust you, I want an extra reward. If you manage to obtain this Sigil weapon that we say exists for the most part, I want to be able to study it for an hour.”
Avrin was quite sure of himself. He would not let such a rare opportunity escape his grasp. It would be an equal bargain, though his words stirred up imnse emotions within Azrael.
“My race...possesses one… That Abbadon told all about them...most likely to flaunt and provoke … But I am sure I will be able to retrieve it. But please know, stranger. If I do beco free, I will be very weak. I will need to hide and recover my strength. Please consider this. I won't be able to show my face until two conditions are t.
Avrin was quite eager to know what these conditions were. “Very well. What are these conditions?” Hearing Avrin speak, Azrael smiled. “Assist in obtaining my Sigil weapon after I recover. This is the first condition.”
Avrin thought carefully. He knew how powerful a Sigil weapon was, and this was most likely a full one he knew nothing about, owned by a powerful demon. He clenched his teeth and spoke. “I agree. After you are free and return to the demon continent, I will assist you in obtaining this Sigil weapon.”
Azrael nodded and smiled with satisfaction. “The second condition will be the undoing of that fool Abbadon. Tell , have you heard of the dragon Orochi?” As Azrael spoke those words, Avrin felt a slight shiver for an unknown reason. “Orochi?.. I can't say that I have..”
If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
Azrael grinned. “Orochi was one of the first dragons created by Septim. A dragon with no limits. A rebel of the heavens. Abbadon told that after I was imprisoned and the Sigil weapons were created, the great god Septim had allowed the other gods to give strange objects to empower the Sigil weapons further. But sothing unexpected happened.”
Avrin didn't dare speak. If the Sigil weapons were strong without this empowernt, than how powerful would they be with it. He wanted Azrael to continue in order to expand his knowledge on the subject.
Azrael could see the eager gaze in Avrin’s eyes and continued. “The dragon Orochi hunted down the eight bearers of these objects, and devoured them. Hahaha. That fool Abaddon had told he was on his way to et the angel and saw the dragon devour it in front of him. Had it not been for his Sigil weapon, he surely would have perished.”
Avrin ignored Azrael's ecstatic expression, as he had many questions regarding this. But Azrael continued on. “The dragon’s eight heads each devoured those pieces and gained power beyond comprehension. Only the gods can match it now.”
“-Eight pieces…. Strange. Very strange… Eight races. The humans, sylph, demons, beastn, avian, sea tribe, and the eighth race.. Could it possibly be the dwarves? The dwarves have a Sigil weapon too? This is strange. I do not know enough to understand it. I will research this when I have ti-”
Seeing Avrin go quiet, Azrael grew nervous and spoke again. “Stranger, may I inquire to your na?” Azrael spoke in a respectful tone. Avrin looked up at him and smiled softly, “My na is Avrin.”
Azrael nodded and spoke. “Avrin, for Orochi’s sins and gluttony, Abbadon had told when the dragon devoured the last angel and Sigil empowernt piece, Septim struck the creature and cast it into the seas, to be guarded by the sea tribe with their lives. Even Abbadon does not know of it's location.”
Avrin frowned and spoke up curiously. “This conversation has drifted from your second condition. I presu you have a point you're about to make?” Listening to Avrin’s question, Azrael stretched and tensed, causing the chains to rattle slightly against his bony arms.
“The dragon Orochi. For my second condition, help free him so that I may claim revenge… With my power as a Sigil wielder and his empowernt, I doubt that there would be any obstacles in my way.”
Avrin raised a brow. “Are you not afraid the Sigil wielders will band together, or other dragons will also assist them to fight you both?” Hearing Avrin’s words, Azrael snickered.
“This involves many risks. In fact, living is full of risks on a daily bases. One's power and how he lives his or her life is the deciding factor in how to overco such risks. In the end, I'm certain I will have my revenge. If I perish a mont after, I will feel no regret.”
Avrin wasn't sure regarding what he wanted revenge for. He assud it was for being imprisoned, and thus didn't inquire further. As long as he obtained Skytal, he would be happy. “Very well. This conversation has gotten interesting, but we will save it for when we et again. I want to know how you plan to find Orochi, but for now, I am satisfied.”
Azrael felt his heart ease up for a mont, then tense with excitent. “T..Thank you, Avrin!” He cried out. Avrin looked at the pillars carefully, before his right eye twitched with a faint light.their
Astaroth ford in his hand and began to emit it's alien aura that made one's soul shudder. The mont the weapon appeared, Azrael gazed at it and seed frightened stiff.
“-S..Such an aura...what kind of monster… No, it's different from Abbadon’s weapon… This.. It reminds of Zephioron before my race descended…. This aura is much more frightening.. What manner of creature is this Avrin?.. To hold such a weapon…-” Azrael was conflicted for a mont, before he saw Avrin twist his body with Astaroth in his hand.
“-I could not use Astaroth..but if those obelisks are more durable and I ss up...I will have lost ti. Thus, I’ll swing at once at each. I'll decimate them and this place-”
Avrin’s muscles tensed up and his arms turned into several blurs. Within those quick movents, four waves of energy simultaneously shot out towards all four obelisks. Screeching sounds that made the soul shake echoed. Within monts, the obelisks were hit and smashed apart with no effort at all.
“Hmm?” In an unknown land, a figure seated at a table drinking what appeared to be tea suddenly raised his head as he thought for a mont. “One..No, four!!....AZRAEL!!!” The figure roared out before a storm of mana surged around him. This man was the angel lord Abbadon. He dashed towards a building that he knew contained a teleportation array.
“ACTIVATE THE TELEPORTATION RUNE THAT LEADS TO LAYMIST!!” He roared out, his voice echoing within this strange land. Every angel tending to their duties could hear it and they shook slightly from fear.
anwhile, the rift prison within the black temple shattered, and Azrael weakly dropped to the ground with a thud. But the bindings around his limbs did not undo.
“Uh...there is also this…” Azrael spoke out as he wanted to complint Avrin on how powerful his attack was as well as ask about that weapon. But Avrin flashed in front of him, and another blur of movents were shown. The tal bindings forged by Fafnir’s flas were easily cut like butter.
At this mont, Avrin withdrew the talisman that Lilia gave him and raised it up with his right hand above Azrael. Azrael looked at it, unsure what it was, but felt Avrin wouldn't do him harm. “In two years from this day, while you recover and I train, where in the demon continent do I et you?”
Azrael quickly spoke, as he knew ti was of the essence. “If it still exists, I will be within the eastern city of Lucius. The city lord at the ti was my blood brother. Find him and you find .” Avrin nodded and dropped the pendant to the ground near Azrael. The mont the pendant struck the ground, it shattered and emitted a transparent do of black light that engulfed Azrael.
The mont the light eased up Azrael was gone. At that mont, Avrin turned his body and struck the large door covered with black fog with Astaroth, and just like the chains forged with Fafnir’s fire, the door shattered into pieces. Avrin’s Divine Sense emitted and he could see everything was temporarily peaceful.
He put Astaroth back into his right eye, and soon, his body turned to purple ash. With a Void Step, he vanished and reappeared within the eastern region, in a small, narrow cave that was barely big enough for him to enter.
He quickly reford the shape of his body back to that of Herth, and right at that mont, a massive surge of mana suddenly appeared within the Dark Abyss Chasm. To be more precise, the teleportation array. A figure charged forward like a teor as it shot towards the black temple. Avrin saw it clearly with his Divine Sense.
Thankfully, that figure was unable to notice it. Avrin began to break into a cold sweat. He knew this powerful figure was stronger than him. When it ca to raw power, Astaroth gave him an advantage, but if he was not fast or skilled enough, it would be his end.
“AZRAEL!!!” A shout that echoed across the Dark Abyss Chasm sounded out. Whether it was the Grandmaster level creatures that were stunned at first when they saw the teor break against the formation, or whether it be Lazgen and Wynfa, or even Avrin, everyone was quiet.
“NO!” Another shout resounded out as a surge of mana shot out. The black temple began to crumble, as the figure searched around it, trying to figure out what happened. Of course, he could not find a speck or a trace. This figure was a crazed Abbadon.
Abbadon had a look of frustration and anger on his face as he searched around spots he had gone over several tis. “This...impossible!!...How...HOW!!....” He was not sure what was going on, so he rushed outside, towards the cowering Grandmaster level creatures, and eyed them carefully.
“USELESS!!” He pulled out a long white sword that was different from his Sigil weapon and slashed several tis towards them. The creatures were all cut in half with ease. Abbadon looked up into the black fog and roared out with anger, his mana shooting around with fury. “AZRAEL!!!!!!” What made him more angry was that he knew with the release of this demon that blood will be spilled. A lot of it.
Avrin gave a nervous grin. “-He doesn't seem too happy… I can only hope I manage to sneak my way out of this…-” As Avrin thought of this, Abbadon’s presence around the Dark Abyss Chasm caused the headmaster and many others to jump with fright.
They all rushed over towards the array before entering it, only to find a dangerous looking Abbadon in front of them. “L..Lord Abbadon....” The headmaster said with surprise.
“You…..you… How could you let him sneak away!!” Abbadon yelled. He wanted answers, and he would definitely try to get them. “This….I'm not sure what you an..” The nervous headmaster said
“That demon...Azrael is free!!! Who freed him!? WHO!?!” Abbadon’s last word caused the six n’s hearts to shake with terror. They all began to talk and whisper as they heard that Azrael was free. They knew just how tyrannical he was, as they had been hand picked for this secretive task.
“I..I'm not sure!!..My lord...I only ca here once in the last thirty years...and that was six days ago to…” The headmaster grew silent and his expression paled sowhat. He turned to the five other n and roared out.
“Go get those three students!! Call them, find them, whatever! Just bring them HERE!!” The headmaster grew angry and the five n sped away to search the Dark Abyss Chasm for the three students.
The surge of mana caused the entire school to enter a commotion. Many grew scared, as they had heard rumors of such dangerous, wild mana. One person in particular was more nervous. A robed Lilia who gazed outside her window. “Father… Avrin, please tell you have saved him…” She had a sad yet hopeful gaze as she looked towards the direction of the Dark Abyss Chasm.
Avrin, of course, had nothing to hide. Lazgen and Wynfa were found with ease, and Avrin saw several Grandmaster ranked individuals speed around. He purposely went in the open and revealed himself and asked with a fake worry the mont the Grandmaster appeared.
“Senior? What's going on!? What happened?” He tried to sound authentic. The man ignored him and quickly spoke. “Co with . Hurry!” The man ordered Avrin. He was being lead towards the array, towards the source of the powerful mana.
Avrin rembered his first eting with Abbadon. It wasn't face to face, but he knew how powerful he was. He had to be careful, because Abbadon was the most powerful person who is allowed to run rampant.
The thought made Avrin worry, but he reassured himself. With his abilities, if worse cos to worst, with his Void Step, he doubted that Abbadon could catch him, let alone detect him. As the array ca into view, Avrin saw that everyone was gathered, including the confused Wynfa and Lazgen who looked towards a figure who was seated on the stairs of the array with respect and terror. They quickly kneeled down.
Avrin reluctantly followed suit.
Abbadon was eerily silent as he sat on the stairs. He noticed the three students. “Hmm..weak... Nothing about these childre-” Abbadon went quiet. He had scanned over Wynfa and Lazgen with his eyes, but the mont they landed on Avrin he was silent and expressionless.
“You…. I can't feel an ounce of mana from you. How strange..”
