Mother Ye was originally quite happy, but when she heard Xun Cheng’s tone, the smile on her face stiffened for a mont.

In her eyes, having a high school education was already a remarkable achievent. The reinstatent of the university entrance exams had not been many years ago, and she would not have had her daughters continue their studies if she didn’t think that a bit of learning would raise their prospects in marriage.

But now, hearing Xun Cheng’s tone, why did he seem to look down on won with a high school education?

"Xingxue’s as smart as her grandfather and has always been a top student in her class." Although Mother Ye didn’t much like her daughter, ntioning her eldest daughter’s grades still allowed her to straighten her back with pride.?Yet Xun Cheng had recovered, and his smile returned to his face, "If she wants to continue studying, she should go on."

He said this, but Xun Cheng’s tone had considerably cooled down, and he seed contemplative.

The two families lived at opposite ends of the village, one at the village head and the other at the tail. After a five-minute walk and a few words, they parted ways.

Xun Cheng then helped his elderly Grandmother Xun back ho.

The Xun Family was one of the wealthier families in the village, and many greeted them along the way.

"Auntie, your boy Xun Cheng has really made sothing of himself. You’ll be living the good life from now on," bead Grandmother Xun with a smile that wouldn’t close.

When the two of them got ho, Xia Hong had just returned with a basin for feeding the chickens.

Seeing them, she naturally started talking about everyday affairs, "Xun Cheng, when are your classmates coming over? I should clean a few rooms for them."

"They’re setting off tonight and should arrive tomorrow morning. They’re driving here themselves," Xun Cheng contemplated for a mont, "Change the bed sheets and quilts to new ones."

Xia Hong paused, "Driving here? Who are your classmates’ families?"

In those days, having a car in the village ant you were soone quite well-off, sothing they had only seen in newspapers.

Xun Cheng shook his head, as he wasn’t too clear himself.

Xia Hong originally thought they were just ordinary classmates, but realizing so drove cars, she wiped her hands on her clothes.

She went to the room and brought out several fabric vouchers, handing them to Xun Cheng, "Go to town and exchange them for two taels of at vouchers. We definitely won’t have enough at vouchers at ho, and pick up two kilograms of pork while you’re there."

Taking the fabric vouchers, Xun Cheng pushed the bicycle out the door.

"Mom, how did it go with you and Xun Cheng?" As soon as Xun Cheng left, Xia Hong rembered what they had been out to do and quickly inquired.

"The boy is handso, but too skinny. Xun Cheng seed to like her. It’s just..." Grandmother Xun furrowed her brows, "She’s stopping her education after high school."

"Stopping her studies? How can this be? Our Xun Cheng is a student at S University." Xia Hong considered for a mont while sitting on a stool, "There are quite a few people from around our ten miles who have their eyes on that girl. If we let her go out, she can’t avoid flirting around. It seems she’s not a reserved person. Let’s keep looking."

"But that eldest Ye daughter doesn’t seem bad. Good grades, decent looks, and she’s even talking about getting into S University," Grandmother Xun compared Shaohua to Xingxue, "That child has so ambition, and Xun Cheng seems to like her quite a bit."

"Ye Xingxue? No way." Xia Hong shook her head imdiately.

Just yesterday, the girl had co to their ho, eagerness in her eyes and a book in her hands. Xia Hong had never seen such an eager Miss. Fortunately, there weren’t many people at their door yesterday. If soone had seen her staying in their ho for over an hour, it could have sparked gossip.

That Shaohua may have a bit of a charm to her, but this Xingxue didn’t seem like soone who could stay put, "Xun Cheng’s classmates are coming tomorrow, right? Maybe he’ll end up marrying a girl from the city."

On this side, Ye Shaohua was unaware that the Xun Family had thoroughly discussed the two sisters inside and out.

Mrs. Ye, unsure of the Xun Family’s intentions, said nothing. "Shaohua, take off the dress you’re wearing and change into another one, then go to the field to pick so pigweed to bring back. Don’t dirty this dress, Xing..."

These days, cloth coupons were limited; Mrs. Ye had made a firm decision to tear off a piece of cloth to make a dress for Ye Shaohua and naturally didn’t want her to wear it out for farm work.

"Mom, I’ll go review with Na Zi now." Ye Xingxue grabbed her textbooks from the room and ca out.

Mrs. Ye originally wanted Ye Xingxue to feed the chickens, but seeing that she wanted to review, she imdiately changed her mind, "You go ahead, Shaohua, before picking pigweed, feed the chickens."

Ye Shaohua went to her room and changed into a white shirt and black trousers before coming out.

Ye Shaohua didn’t say a word and went straight to the yard to find a burlap sack. She poured rice husks into the broken bowl at the chicken coop and after making sure they were finished eating, she picked up a bamboo basket and left.

The path leading to the mountain went through the town and there was only one road.

As Ye Shaohua was heading back, she coincidentally ran into Xun Cheng pushing his bicycle.

It was almost noon, and Xun Cheng wanted to exchange his cloth coupons before the shops closed. He didn’t expect to see Ye Shaohua as he stepped out.

The white shirt Ye Shaohua wore was issued by Ye Father’s factory; it had no patterns and the craftsmanship was quite crude, utterly lacking in aesthetic appeal. Ye Xingxue, having worn it and found that it made her look plumper, had thrown it to Ye Shaohua.

It was a bit big on her; when the wind blew, the deflated appearance of the shirt allowed one to see her slender waist and very pronounced collarbones, which under the sunlight, looked piercingly white.

Her looks were truly striking. Xun Cheng had seen many beautiful won in S city, and there were female students majoring in film and television at the school.

Yet, Xun Cheng thought none was as good-looking as Ye Shaohua from the village; it wasn’t just her face, he felt that her aura was quite special, not like soone who grew up in a village.

He wondered if she would still be willing to continue her studies in the future, Xun Cheng thought indifferently.

He opened his mouth, wanting to call out to her since they had technically t today; however, she simply carried her bamboo basket and passed by him without even glancing his way.

When Ye Shaohua ca out, she had already observed the layout of the village; the village was not very large, with probably around twenty households. Next door was another village.

The only road in the village led to the town; at the village entrance was a big courtyard with its gates firmly shut, unknown who resided within.

Thinking like this, she naturally didn’t notice Xun Cheng.

By the ti she returned after cutting the pigweed, Mrs. Ye had already cooked the midday al.

Ye Xinghui kept his head down at the edge of the table. Seeing Ye Shaohua return, he imdiately turned away, his expression seeming rather unfriendly, no longer looking at her.

Mrs. Ye, anwhile, was talking cordially with Ye Xingxue. Seeing Ye Shaohua co back, she said with a smile to Ye Xingxue, "In the future, play more with Xun Cheng. You young people, after all, can always find a way to have fun together."

Only then did she turn to Ye Shaohua, her tone significantly colder than this morning, "Shaohua, your aunt has a family over there; bring them over to have a look in a couple of days. I saw your Auntie Xia Hong when I stepped out just now; she feels that your grades aren’t as good as Xun Cheng’s and you don’t have this luck."
