After my productive magical lesson with Momo Hanakai, Sona's Bishop, I made my way over to Sona's office where she was supposed to be working at this ti of day... Honestly, with my lesson over and nothing to do in my room other than rely ruminating about the magic I learned, I was kinda bored so I was going to go bug her for sothing to do.
As I ca to her office and knocked I heard Tsubaki answer in lieu of Sona answering. So I opened the door and ca in and saw Tsubaki working at the desk right next to the door while Sona was working on her paperwork at the more decorated desk in the back of the room. "Sona, I was wondering if there was anything I could do besides just practice my magic as I kinda made Momo have a bit of a ntal breakdown with my nonsense," I said wryly and I got to see Sona very carefully put down her fountain pen before she audible inhaled as she cupped her face with her hands.
"Jake... What did you do and how did you break my bishop." Sona muttered through her hands before she put them down and she eyed like I purposefully overthrew Momo's knowledge of magic. So I explained how I figured out how by rely holding hands I could forge a blank connection or contract so we could combine our magic and perform even better than we were alone with our combined power performing far better than rely one plus one.
"And with how exhausted Momo was in showing a couple of simple devil imagination base spells I gave her a kiss on the cheek to make sure she didn't pass out or sothing out of mana exhaustion... And that kinda made her a blushing ss so I ca over to see if there was anything I could do other than bully your peerage mbers with my obscene talent." I said cheerfully and Sona's eyes just twitched as she clearly was trying to think if I was joking.
But then a small flush ca across her face under her glasses as her mind went back to our last little rendevous and how her own power and control over said power had grown from that bit of intimacy.
Tsubaki at my words coughed and raised an eyebrow as she looked at before speaking. "President, why does it look like you actually expected him to do that?" She questioned flatly and Sona froze before she matched her queen's wry smile as she looked at the Queen of her peerage.
"Because Jake, is a perverted monster who grows more powerful and makes the people he is involved in gain more power by doing lewd and intimate things with him." As Tsubaki obviously looked about to object Sona raised a finger and her slightly flushed face was incandescently red as she continued to speak quietly. "I checked and it's true..."
Now even Tsubaki was blushing and I felt a bit awkward so I coughed to get their attention. "So beyond practicing magic and so martial arts/weapon practice in the mornings what else is there for to do?" I asked and for a mont Sona looked a bit lost before speaking.
"Well... with your growing talents that could use the ti to polish, to say the least, I don't suppose you would like to be a teacher's aide or sothing in the school?" She asked and I held up my arms in an X.
"Nope, I am good thank you, being a student for rowdy teenagers is one thing but being a gopher for a teacher is even worse," I explained and although Sona nodded in acceptance I could see she wanted to stick close to her school so for the next couple of monts I could see Sona was visibly thinking about what to offer before I saw a light enter her eyes.
"Well in that case with your talents and growth speed, I suggest you take up bounty hunting here in Japan as only weaker evil Youkai and Stray Devils are around which you can take care of with your control of the Sitri magic... And people always grow in harsh combat and training more than anything." Sona thought aloud before her eyes locked onto mine as she smiled. "But you will still live here I hope as my contracted magician Jake." She finished and I nodded silently making her preen a bit.
As much as I wanted to, I couldn't just stick around getting bits of training in Sona's peerage's free ti from their many duties. I needed to stretch my wings out and get so combat experience before I headed back to the world of Worm to deal with so of the villains my contract stated I needed to kill.
So Sona explained how bounty hunting typically worked here in the Supernatural world as unsurprisingly there was actually a stupid amount of magical wards around major cities that kept track of things happening so whenever there were Stray Devils and Youkai that ca around that glutted on human souls and flesh Sona and Rias were made aware of it via the wards and their familiars that kept watch over the city.
"Well, there is this local of a milk run of a Kappa Youkai who has a bounty on its head for its habit of drowning people in the river it's been staying at. So hmm, Tsubaki take him over there and supervise him and make sure he doesn't freeze up at killing the Kappa." Sona spoke as she took out a thick piece of paper that had so magical filigree on it. "So this paper is a bounty paper universally used by factions as it uses a peculiar spell that has you put the pure heart blood of the bounty on the paper that will match the paper's magical signature of the bounty," Sona explained. I raised an eyebrow at how convenient this was.
I an lugging the head or sothing of the bounty you killed would suck and be ssy as all hell. But just putting the life's blood of the bounty that carried the aura it left behind at other cri scenes was super convenient as I could already see how the bounty also acted as a small portal spell that when the magical aura was confird and the bounty was completed the paynt would be teleported directly to anonymously. And actually, this contract was from the offices of Youkai control of Kyoto...
'Did Yasaka sign this bounty for the life of a Youkai that was killing humans and eating them?' I wondered before shrugging as I smiled wryly and looked at Tsubaki. "I would appreciate you acting as a safety umbrella," I said honestly making Tsubkai raise an eyebrow.
"You aren't going to be all gung ho about killing a monster and say you don't need at all?" She questioned softly standing up and I couldn't help but snort at the thought of her question.
"Nope, I am very well assured of my combat skills being naught but stabbing sothing with the pointy end and making magical balls go boom... So having you there to get my ass out of the fire should sothing go wrong will be more than welco." I said and Sona snorted at my candid answer.
Sona then exhaled loudly as she began speaking while she flipped over a paper. "Either way, there are a lot more bounties coming in due to tensions rising between the West and East side of the Youkai clans which is bringing the evil Youkai out of the shadows and making issues as the Youkai won't police themselves with the tension... So having you do so of the less dangerous missions will free up the ti it would take Rias and my one Peerage to deal with it while allowing you to get resources you will need as a magician and make a na for yourself while allowing us to train you in the more fine arts." At the end, she looked up from her paperwork and finished and I squinted as she refused to et my eyes and she was blushing slightly.
"And I would appreciate it if you spend this evening's supper with myself and my sister... We have so things we wish to discuss with you, Jake." She finished and then she seemingly used whatever embarrassnt she had to get and Tsubaki out of her office and we just blankly stared at one another at how we were so quickly kicked out of the office.
"I suppose we must be going now," Tsubaki said primly as she pushed up her glasses but there was no hiding the confusion in her eyes as she led to a side classroom to teleport us to the river the Kappa last had its magical signature found at.
