Chapter 567: Western Continent VIII

Jace slid under the giant bat cutting the creature in two as he went. Laughing as he did so. "Oh co on! That was a bit funny!" Jace told them as he spun around to watch as Victor cut off his bat’s wings with his axes and Eduta’s hand slamd upwards and snapped the creature’s neck.

Victor grunted in sothing that was probably between annoyance and anger. Eduta on the other hand was playing the part of peace maker. "Victor does not believe that the joke was in good taste."

Jace rolls his eyes as he stands up fully and dusts himself off before continuing down the path. "It was a joke! A vampire joke too."

"That’s not the-" Victor starts but is cut off as the very ground beneath them begins to shake. It might be more accurate to say that the entire continent shakes as the ground starts cracking and bouts of steam spew up from the cracks.

Then just as quickly as it started, the shaking stopped. Not slowly either like slowing down. It was a sudden stop.

"What was that?" Victor asked as Jace scanned the area every way he knew how but he just shrugged.

"I have no clue." Jace told them.

"At the end of this path is an overview of the area. We should see any drastic changes from the plains or ravines from there." Eduta quickly explained getting nods from both Victor and Jace before they all started running.

It was not long before they were at the opening Eduta talked about. "Shit." Jace cursed as he looked out over the area. "That does not look good."

"There used to be vast plains over there." Eduta pointed in the area he was talking about. "But now..."

Now it was just a massive steam cloud and water. Water that was likely being heated up by underwater volcanoes. While closer to them, the ravines were covered in black vine both large and small that actually reached the edge of the water. But as Jace looked he smirked under his helt.

"So are we going through that?" Victor asked as he pointed at the steaming water that would likely cook them rather quickly, even in their armor.

"I thought we were going to deal with that." Eduta waved at the pit where it likely used to be the military facility but was now an ominous pit. An ominous pit that gave Jace a really bad feeling.

"Why would we deal with that?" Victor asked in astonishnt. "That looks and feels like sothing that I do not want to even be this close to."

"Because the master sent us." Eduta countered.

Jace rolled his eyes as he crouched at the edge and took a look at the area. Making several calculations in his head as they started to argue. "Quiet you two!" Jace instructed. "We are not doing either and we are also doing both."

"What?" "How?" They asked in unison and he honestly could not tell who asked which question.

Jace pointed at the shoreline between the superheated water and black vines. "It looks like that black stuff does not like the heated water."

"So?" Victor asked.

"There." He pointed at a spot just inside the hole. "If I am right, that should be a weak point we can exploit. We need to get down there and set up so explosives so the water will pour into the hole. The water, even if it does not cook everything alive, will fill up the hole and drown anything inside."

"What if there is sothing that can breathe underwater?" Victor asked as Jace stood up.

"Then they will have to contend with the underwater creatures of this world. Which I can tell you from personal experience will be quite difficult." Jace explained as he looked for a way down but he frowned as he looked up at the sky. "But I think that it will have to wait until tomorrow. The morning is about to arrive. We need to find a cave."

—--------------------------

"I am not so sure about this." Shinobi pointed out as they moved through the forest. Cain had communicated to the person on their behalf. So now they had a new pair of companions, neither of which they could communicate with. But at least the lizard thing stopped being invisible.

Valkyrie shrugged. "Cain said there was a hidden space craft nearby. We just need to get to it and take it to the eastern shore where we should et- um what are we supposed to call him now?"

"Gladiator. I was not filled in on the details of why we are calling him that. But apparently he went to pick up Victor." Shinobi explained with a wave his hand before glancing into the forest around them as night started to fall. "By the way... have you noticed-"

"Yeah, haaa..." Valkyrie sighed as she shook her head. "They are moving ahead of us. I am guessing they are waiting for a clearing with a decent enough view. Should we attack them ahead of schedule?"

Shinobi tilted his head before slipping into the forest. It was only a mont but it looked like he disappeared as Valkyrie stopped along with the lizard and its rider. When Shinobi’s cloak fell to the ground the rider of the lizard’s head snapped toward Valkyrie.

But in the forest the group of rcenaries that were following them were confused. "Hey where did the other one-ack!" One of them started and then stopped as a sword pierced through his chest. It then went upward and cut through his head which split open.

The rcenary standing next to him watched in terror before he suddenly went to move but fell back and was about to scream in pain as he realized his legs had been cut off. But before he could his neck split open and his head rolled across the ground.

Shinobi quietly moved through the forest as he pulled out so shurikans and threw them. There were grunts of pain before they died. Then he did not stop moving as his sword sliced another rcenary’s head in diagonal.

Bang!

A bullet barely missed him as he moved and he clicked his tongue in annoyance.

"Oh!?! Did soone notice you? What’s wrong? Are you perhaps getting a bit rusty?" Valkyrie called out mockingly. Then a mont later her feathers tore through the trees, just barely missing Shinobi as they skewered several people before flying back to her.

Shinobi shook his head and cursed in another language. He then ran through the woods before an explosion through him back and into a tree. When he landed on the ground he groaned and looked around. "What just hit ?" He asked when he realized that Valkyrie and their new companion was near him.

"Whatever it was..." Valkyrie looked into the forest as there were several flashes of light. "It’s purpose was more to push you back than it was to injure you." She then held up a hand and the feathers hovered over her. "But I think they are killing the group that was planning to ambush us."

They watched for a few more minutes before suddenly out of the brush burst an injured man, one who looked like the rest of the rcenaries. She yelled sothing before there was a flash of red light behind him. His eyes rolled up in the back of his head and he fell forward. Revealing a scorch mark that tore through into his back.

As well as revealing a woman standing behind him. She looked at them as she stepped over the corpse. "Let

guess, you two are the foreigners I am looking for. While she and her mount are the people from the southern islands."

"You speak our language." Valkyrie flinched back in surprise.

"Yes I do. Thanks to my teacher I do. Now then do you want to be captured or do you want to et up with your boss. Because I just killed several rcenaries that were supposed to help

and I do not want to have to deal with the fallout if I can help it." The woman explained as he holstered her laser pistol.

"Your boss would be..." Shinobi asked, adding a wave of his hand to make a point.

"Catherine Hex. She currently works for the empire but wants to return to her ho galaxy and believes you have a way to do that." The woman explained and frowned when she noticed that both Shinobi and Valkyrie both flinched when they heard that na.

"That explains that." Valkyrie grumbled. They then watched as the woman switched to her language and talked to their companion. "I will... contact Cain."

Shinobi frowned as the two won started arguing in their language. "Yeah and do it quickly. I have no clue what they are arguing about. But I can tell one of them will draw their weapon soon if we do not stop it."
