Chapter 37 Zhao Pan’er’s Wish

Zhao Pan’er shook her head.

“Nothing!”

Gao You, hearing this, suggested, “Shall we go on an outing?”

Last ti he wandered around Qiantang, he had noticed the surrounding mountains and rivers were beautiful, but unfortunately, he hadn’t gone far. Now that Zhao Pan’er had ti, Gao You planned to take her on a short trip to the nearby countryside.

“Yes!”

Zhao Pan’er nodded excitedly.

Having run a tea shop for so many years, she hadn’t gone out for fun in a long ti. Going on a trip with the whole family was different from Gao You just going out on his own.

Zhao Pan’er specifically arranged for Xiao Lingdang to rent a carriage. Seeing Zhao Pan’er packing so many things, one might have thought she was moving house!

“Where’s Gao Lang’s book?”

Zhao Pan’er frowned, searching everywhere for the Legend of the White Snake that Gao You always carried. She hadn’t read the book’s content, but since Gao You always had it with him, it ant he really liked it.

Since they were going out, there would inevitably be idle ti—she had to bring it for him.

“The book?”

Gao You looked at Zhao Pan’er in confusion.

Zhao Pan’er smiled.

“The book that Gao Lang reads every day, the one without a title!”

“I want to bring it so he can pass the ti if he gets bored!”

The Legend of the White Snake, which he had obtained through the system, didn’t have a title on the cover. Right now, the book was stored in his system backpack and hadn’t been taken out.

“Here!”

Gao You retrieved the Legend of the White Snake from his backpack and handed it to Zhao Pan’er. If he didn’t take it out now, then pulling it out to read during the trip would be too sudden and hard to explain.

Zhao Pan’er put the Legend of the White Snake into the trunk. By then, Xiao Lingdang had returned to the courtyard, driving the rented carriage.

“Pan’er-jie, we can set off now!”

Gao You quickly prepared to carry the trunk outside. Zhao Pan’er imdiately stopped him.

“Gao Lang, don’t! Leave these heavy tasks to !”

“I’m a man!”

Gao You picked up the trunk without hesitation and strode out. Zhao Pan’er watched in surprise as Gao You marched out confidently, a warm feeling rising in her heart. Being taken care of felt so nice.

“Two carriages?”

Gao You looked at the vehicles in surprise.

Song Yinzhan, standing nearby, explained, “There are five of us, of course, we need two carriages!”

“One isn’t enough!”

Gao You cast a displeased glance at Song Yinzhan, who was acting like an unwanted third wheel.

He was planning to go on a romantic getaway with his wife—who wanted to bring along a love-struck younger sister nursing a broken heart? Unfortunately, Song Yinzhan had no awareness of how to step aside.

As soon as Zhao Pan’er stepped out, Song Yinzhan pulled her toward the front carriage. Gao You curled his lip and got into his own carriage. With a flick of the reins from the two drivers, the carriages rolled out of the courtyard.

“Gao Guanren, wait a mont!”

From a distance, a group of people hurriedly approached. Zhao Pan’er lifted the curtain and stared at the approaching figures.

“People from the Qian Prince’s Manor?”

“Gao Guanren, Gao Furen!”

The steward of the Qian Prince’s Manor stepped forward.

“By order of Prince Qian!”

“We have specially co to deliver the gift of gratitude from yesterday!”

“Give it to Fu Bo!”

Gao You spoke casually, then picked up the whip and gave it a flick.

“Go!”

The horses pulling the carriage responded and moved forward. The steward stood there, feeling sowhat helpless. He had co all this way, representing the prince’s manor to deliver the gratitude gift, and this was the reception he got?

Shaking his head in resignation, he let out a sigh. Zhao Pan’er pulled back the curtain and apologized with a smile.

“Sorry, that’s just how Gao Lang is.”

“I understand!”

The steward responded with a smile.

Since Zhao Pan’er had personally explained, he considered it a form of respect. After all, Gao You had even dragged his feet in presenting the emperor’s painting yesterday and had ignored Prince Qian’s presence altogether.

As a re steward, what right did he have to be angry?

According to Zhao Pan’er’s plan, the group was first going to Lingyin Temple to pray for Gao You’s well-being. Gao You scoffed at the idea.

As a transmigrator with a system, he was a chosen one of destiny. However, since it was a thoughtful gesture from his wife, he didn’t argue.

Besides, Lingyin Temple was a well-known scenic spot in the area, so a visit wouldn’t hurt.

An hour later, Gao You put down the Legend of the White Snake and looked at the distant temple. Finally, they had arrived. He hadn’t expected a short countryside trip to involve two hours in a carriage. No wonder ancient people rarely traveled—transportation was just too slow.

“Gao Lang, shall we go pray?”

Zhao Pan’er invited him.

Gao You nodded and followed her into the temple. Like an ordinary married couple, they followed all the proper procedures for making a prayer.

“What’s your wish, my dear?”

Gao You looked at Zhao Pan’er with curiosity. Zhao Pan’er smiled and shook her head.

“You can’t say your wish out loud, or it won’t co true!”

Fair enough.

Gao You didn’t press further.

Zhao Pan’er, however, secretly glanced at him and recalled her prayer. She wished for Gao You’s good health, success in everything, and eternal happiness. She also had a more extravagant wish.

That Gao You’s mind would gradually mature. She had noticed that ever since they returned from Princess Qian’s birthday banquet, sothing felt off with her. Every ti she got close to Gao You, her heart would race, and she would feel parched.

Zhao Pan’er knew she might have fallen for Gao You. But he was so innocent, while she had developed feelings of romantic desire toward him. Every ti she thought about it, Zhao Pan’er felt like a bad woman!

“Sister, what are you thinking about?”

Song Yinzhan looked at Zhao Pan’er curiously. “Why is your face red?”
