Before Gu Nian could ask any questions, a sonorous old man's voice barked from even further way, "Don't say such a thing about your brother, you brat!"
Gu Nian was taken aback a little.
– Brother?
[We have different mothers.]
[Just like his parents, he didn't like much. And then…... I was tired of being bullied and I ran away from my family.]
Along with her mory was the scenes from that day. Gu Nian recalled how the man stood in the hallway, his head lowered, and he was smiling tenderly trying to conceal the sadness in his eyes.
Gu Nian, expressionlessly: Oh.
So this was the [email protected]@ss brother who bullied her precious son, right?
That would explain why his first reaction when he heard a stranger voice was that his tender, pitiful and softy of a brother was kidnapped and murdered.
Gu Nian could already imagine the kind of awful days that her precious son had to endure at his ho for the past 20 or so years.
Wuwuwu, her poor pitiful precious son. T^T
The voice seed to have been scolded back by the elder and he said to her casually, "You know Luo Xiu? Why do you have his cellphone?"
Gu Nian recollected herself and, for safety's sake, she decided to confirm it one more ti. "Are you Luo Xiu's younger brother?"
"…Tsk, so you've even learned about our family mbers?" The voice from the other end chuckled languidly. "So is Luo Xiu really kidnapped? Then don't bother asking for a ransom. Just kill him already."
Gu Nian, "…………"
Gu Nian asked in a serious and solemn tone, "So you are Luo Xiu's younger brother, right?"
"Can't you tell from the display whether I am his brother or not?"
"?"
Gu Nian pulled the phone away from her and checked the screen again. She brought the phone back and said, "He did not have your number saved."
The other end, "…………?"
A few seconds of silence later, there was snickering from the other side, "I guess not then."
Gu Nian, "."
Suppressing her inexplicable guilty feeling, Gu Nian tried to convince herself that Luo Xiu must not have his family's numbers saved because they had been so awful to him.
After she was done with her self-hypnotism, she was able to successfully rid herself of the guilty feeling. "Are you looking for Mr. Luo Xiu? He had just left his cellphone behind in… the conference room. Can I relate a ssage to him when I see him later?"
"Conference room?" A snicker ca from the other end. "A eting that ended at 7 in the morning? What was the eting about?"
Gu Nian read emotionally without missing a beat, "How to better service the people more efficiently."
The other end, "……"
After their exchange, the other end suddenly chuckled. "I called originally because Grandpa wanted to ask him if he will be coming ho for dinner as today is Dragon Boat Festival."
Gu Nian caught the subtext, "And now?"
"Why don't you return the cellphone to Luo Xiu? There is sothing else that I want to talk to him about all of a sudden."
"…….?"
This ti he did not wait for a response from Gu Nian. He said a perfunctory "goodbye" and hung up.
Gu Nian put the phone down with a frown.
Jiang Xiaoqing, "Who was it?"
Gu Nian paused for a second and decided against revealing Luo Xiu's family situation. She finally said with a vague, "It's from his family."
Jiang Xiaoqing was surprised. "His family? Then how co the number wasn't saved in the phone? Here I thought it was a spam call."
Qin Yuanyuan nodded as well, "I accidentally clicked into the unanswered call earlier and saw that there was no number saved in the contact list at all. Perhaps this was his spare phone?"
Jiang Xiaoqing, "Perhaps. No, that must be it. What kind of a person would have no friends or family's numbers saved in their cellphone?"
Gu Nian paused and looked at the phone.
She knew that couldn't be.
If that was the case, then his brother would not keep calling this number repeatedly.
Jiang Xiaoqing had just finished talked when she noticed Gu Nian walked past her.
She asked quickly, "You just got back. Where are you heading now?"
Gu Nian didn't turn around. Her voice low, "I am going to bring Luo Xiu's phone back to him."
"Oh."
The room door closed again.
