Descending from the plateau, the forest swallowed us once more, its oppressive silence thicker than before. Every rustle of leaves, every faint chirp of unseen wildlife, felt magnified. The obelisk's signal had changed sothing, not just in the atmosphere but in us. We moved with heightened caution, every step deliberate.

Raijuu led the way, his posture tense and his ears flicking toward faint noises in the underbrush. Kijin followed closely, her sharp gaze darting between the gnarled roots and tangled vines that lined the narrow path. She wasn't speaking, which was unusual. Her quiet focus said more about the gravity of our situation than any sarcastic quip ever could.

The chat mirrored the tension in the group, their usual banter interspersed with real concern:

: That signal definitely did sothing. The forest feels... different.

: Anyone else notice how quiet Kijin is? That's not a good sign.

: Raijuu's on edge. If even he's spooked, you guys need to stay sharp.

Despite the growing unease, we pressed on. The altar's map had marked another waypoint further to the east, and the faint hum of the crystal was still guiding us in that direction. The path twisted through dense thickets and over uneven terrain, forcing us to move slowly. The deeper we went, the darker it beca, as though the forest itself was conspiring to obscure the way forward.

After an hour of trudging through the increasingly hostile terrain, the path opened into a small clearing. At its center was a stone archway, half-covered in moss and vines, its ancient structure tilted slightly but still standing firm. Carvings adorned the archway, similar to the glyphs on the obelisk but less intricate. The air around it felt heavier, charged with a faint, static energy.

"This must be the next marker," I said, stepping cautiously toward the archway. The crystal around my neck pulsed faintly, its light syncing with the glyphs as I approached.

Kijin circled the archway, her fingers brushing against the carvings. "This is definitely part of the sa network, but it's different. Less powerful than the obelisk, but still significant."

Raijuu sniffed at the base of the structure, growling softly. Tenko, standing at the edge of the clearing, scanned the surroundings with her cara, her sharp eyes missing nothing.

: That archway looks like a gate. Do you think it's functional?

: Raijuu doesn't like it. Might be a trap—or worse.

: The energy here is unsettling. Be careful, Tsukasa.

As I examined the glyphs, the crystal's pulse grew stronger, and a faint vibration traveled through the ground. Suddenly, the air inside the archway shimred, like heat waves rising from hot asphalt. A low hum resonated from the structure, growing louder with each passing second.

Before I could react, the shimr intensified, and the archway seed to flicker between solid stone and sothing else—an inky void that stretched infinitely beyond its boundaries. The sound was deafening now, a deep, resonant thrum that vibrated in my chest.

"Kijin, back off!" I called, stepping away from the archway just as a gust of wind burst from its center, scattering leaves and debris across the clearing. Raijuu barked sharply, his growls turning into full-blown snarls as the void stabilized.

A shape erged from the darkness—a tall, humanoid figure clad in armor that shimred like liquid tal. Its movents were unnaturally smooth, almost fluid, as though its body was adapting to the environnt in real ti. Its face, if it could be called that, was featureless, save for two glowing orbs where eyes should have been.

The chat exploded in a frenzy:

: WHAT IS THAT?! Did the gate just summon sothing?

: That's not human. Definitely not friendly either.

: Tsukasa, get out of there! This thing looks dangerous!

The figure stepped forward, its glowing eyes fixed on . It didn't speak, but its presence radiated hostility. I instinctively reached for the crystal, its light flaring in response to the creature's proximity. Kijin was already in motion, a glowing barrier forming around her hands as she prepared to intercept the intruder.

"Raijuu, back up Kijin," I ordered, stepping to the side to give them space. "Tenko, keep watch for anything else."

The creature moved with unsettling speed, closing the distance between us in seconds. Kijin t its charge head-on, her barrier clashing against its tallic fra with a sound like grinding steel. Sparks flew as they collided, the force of the impact reverberating through the clearing.

Raijuu circled behind the creature, his movents fluid and precise. With a low growl, he leapt at its back, his claws raking against its armor. The creature staggered but didn't falter, its form shifting unnaturally as it twisted to face Raijuu.

The fight was brutal and fast-paced, the clearing lit by flashes of energy as Kijin and Raijuu worked in tandem to keep the creature at bay. It was clear, however, that their attacks weren't doing much damage. The creature's body seed to absorb impacts, its tallic surface rippling like water with each strike.

The chat was in full-blown panic mode:

: It's adapting to your attacks! You need a new strategy!

: Kijin's barrier is holding, but for how long?

: Raijuu's giving it his all, but this thing isn't going down easy.

I gripped the crystal tightly, focusing its energy into a concentrated burst. A beam of light shot from the crystal, striking the creature square in the chest. It staggered, its glowing eyes dimming for a mont, but the effect was temporary. The creature recovered quickly, its form stabilizing as it turned its attention back to .

"Fall back!" I called to Kijin and Raijuu, realizing that brute force wasn't going to work. "We need to regroup."

Reluctantly, they retreated, keeping the creature at bay long enough for us to retreat into the forest. The archway shimred again, the void within collapsing in on itself as the creature stepped back through, disappearing as suddenly as it had appeared.

Breathing heavily, I leaned against a tree, the crystal's light dimming as the tension eased. Kijin and Raijuu stood guard, their postures still alert, while Tenko scanned the area for any signs of pursuit.

"We're not dealing with just ancient relics anymore," I said, catching my breath. "Whatever that thing was, it's tied to this island—and it's not going to let us uncover its secrets without a fight."

We regrouped, gathering our scattered supplies and ensuring no one was injured. The archway stood silent now, its glyphs dim and unresponsive. Whatever it had summoned was gone, for now, but its presence lingered like a shadow over the clearing.

After taking a mont to docunt the encounter and adjust our plans, we resud our journey toward the next waypoint, the forest once again closing in around us.
