*Briella*

I paced the length of my chamber, each step echoing loudly off the walls. I could barely hear it over the thundering of my heart. Outside, the sky rumbled with discontent.

“Believe , I feel it too,” I mumbled to myself.

Thunder cracked sharply, a whip in the heavens that made flinch. I was a week overdue, my belly swollen and heavy, and every peal of thunder seed to mock my growing unease.

"Please, just sit down," Kai pleaded from where he sat by the fire, his concern etched into the fine lines around his eyes. "You’re only going to tire yourself out more."

"I can’t help it," I said, stopping to rub my lower back. My hands, once accustod to the weight of a sword, now served to soothe the persistent ache that had taken up residence in my spine. "The waiting, the silence between the thunder... It’s all too much."

Kai stood up and approached , his steps quiet but sure. He placed his hands gently on my shoulders, guiding toward the plush armchair I had been so stubbornly avoiding. "Briella," he said softly, "the baby is perfectly healthy. You’ve done everything right. All you need to do now is rest."

Rest... The word felt foreign on my tongue, an impossible task when every fiber of my being buzzed with anticipation and dread. I let out a sigh, finally surrendering to Kai’s gentle insistence and sinking into the chair’s comforting embrace.

"Every birth has its own ti," Kai reminded as he crouched before , his hands warm over mine. "You’re strong. And when the mont cos, you’ll be ready."

I nodded, trying to believe him. His presence was calming, a welco presence to the storm both outside and within . "I know," I murmured. "I just wish–" The words caught in my throat, their aning clear but unspoken.

Kai squeezed my hands, understanding without the need for to finish. "It won’t be long now," he assured , the confidence in his voice a steady anchor. "And I’ll be here, every step of the way."

"Promise?" The word ca out small, childlike even, nothing like the warrior I had trained to beco.

"Promise." Kai’s smile was soft, his green eyes filled with unwavering support.

As another roll of thunder shook the room, I leaned back, closing my eyes and focusing on the steady rhythm of my breath. The storm would pass. When it did, new life would greet us. I only had to wait, trust, and rest.

The first sharp pang hit like a lightning bolt, tearing through the uncertainty and igniting a fire of realization within. My hand flew to my belly, eyes wide with the dawning knowledge that it was ti.

"Kai!" I called out, my voice stronger than I expected, slicing through the rumbling tempest outside. It didn’t take long for him to appear at the doorway, his expression shifting swiftly from concern to decisive action as he read the situation in my eyes.

"Alright, Briella, let’s get you to the birthing room." His words were calm, but there was an underlying speed to his movents as he helped stand, guiding out of the comfort of the chair and into the ticulously prepared chamber across the hall.

The air slled of herbs and antiseptic—clinical yet sohow reassuring. The royal healers, draped in their soft blue robes, turned as we entered, their faces etched with professional focus. They had been waiting for this mont, ready to ensure the safety of the next heir to Embervale’s throne.

"Prepare everything," Kai instructed, his younger years overshadowed by the authority in his voice. The healers nodded, moving with practiced efficiency to arrange the dical equipnt, laying out gleaming instrunts and sterilized cloths beside the bed.

"Kai, where’s Kryzen?" The question escaped between deep breaths, trying to stay anchored amidst the waves of discomfort that threatened to pull under.

"He’s on his way, Briella. Focus on your breathing, just like we practiced," Kai reassured , taking my hand and pressing it gently against his chest, where I could feel the steady thrum of his heartbeat.

“How soon?”

"Soone must fetch Kryzen, imdiately," Kai said to one of the attending healers, who bowed slightly before hurrying from the room, intent on bringing the soon-to-be father back to my side.

“Kai?”

"You’re not alone."

"Thank you," I whispered, grateful beyond words for my brother’s unwavering presence. As another contraction washed over , my grip tightened on Kai’s hand, finding strength in his unyielding support.

"Rember, you’re strong, Briella. You can do this," he encouraged, holding my gaze with his own, a verdant reflection of determination.

I nodded, my resolve hardening. This was the mont I had been preparing for, the culmination of all the waiting and worrying. The storm outside may have raged on, but within these walls, I was surrounded by care and expertise. My child would be born into a world of love and protection, and that was all that truly mattered.

The bed was cold and uninviting as they settled onto it, a stark contrast to the warmth I longed for—Kryzen’s comforting embrace. My body tensed, another wave of pain threatening to overco my senses. "Kryzen," I gasped out, the word more of a plea than a re call. My heart hamred against my ribcage.

"Shh, Briella, he’ll be here any mont," Kai soothed, his hand never leaving mine. There was an assurance in his voice that I clung to, although the fear gnawing at the edge of my mind painted relentless images of what could delay him.

“Where is he?” I demanded through gritted teeth. “I want my husband now.”

The healers, draped in their ceremonial robes, moved around with practiced ease. Their hands were gentle yet firm as they assessed my condition, their murmurs blending into the background noise of my own strained breathing. "It might still be so ti before the baby cos," one healer said, eting my eyes with a calm that I desperately tried to mirror.

"Ti," I repeated the word, a lifeline in the tumultuous sea of contractions that ebbed and flowed like the tides.

The room spun slightly with another surge of pain. I winced, squeezing Kai’s hand tighter, seeking solace in the solidity of his presence.

"Can you do that, Briella? Can you hold on just a bit longer?" Kai asked, his gaze filled with empathy. It was what made him such an amazing healer. He always seed to see through to the heart of things.

Through gritted teeth and a brave nod, I replied, "For our child, I can endure anything." My words were a whisper of strength I wasn’t entirely sure I possessed, but for the life about to enter this world, I would find it. All I needed was Kryzen by my side.

“Ti is good. I can’t do this without Kryzen.”

Kai mopped the sweat from my brow as another round of contractions ca and went. “Here,” he offered another vial.

The potion was bitter with a sharp tang that clung to the back of my throat. I grimaced, but relief washed over as the warmth spread through my veins, lending a montary respite from the relentless grip of pain.

"Drink it all, Briella," Kai urged gently, holding the cup to my lips while his other hand wiped the sweat from my brow with a cool cloth. "It’ll help you keep your strength up."

I nodded, swallowing the last of the liquid and trying to focus on the cooling sensation against my skin rather than the mounting pressure building within . The storm outside mirrored the chaos in my body, thunder rumbling in tandem with the contractions that refused to relent.

"Better?" Kai asked, eyes scanning my face for signs of improvent.

"Sowhat," I managed to say, my voice stronger than I felt. His presence was a comfort, a beacon in the midst of my turmoil, but it was Kryzen’s absence that gnawed at , leaving a hollow void that only his return could fill.

And then, bringing a gust of wind sweeping through the chamber, the door burst open with such force it startled even the seasoned healers. Kryzen stood there, drenched from the tempest outside, his gray eyes wild with concern and determination.

"Briella!" He was at my side instantly, his large hands enveloping mine, bringing an imdiate sense of calm. "I’m here, love. I’m here."

"Kryzen," I breathed out his na as though it were a spell to ward off the pain. With him holding , the world seed to right itself, even if only for a heartbeat.

"Guide her through the next contraction," one of the healers instructed Kryzen, their voice steady and assured. "We need to work together now."

"I’m so sorry, Briella," Kryzen whispered, pressing a kiss to my knuckles, his touch a promise in the darkness. “I ca as quickly as I could. I’m so sorry.”

"Ready?" Kai’s question was both a warning and a bolster.

"Ready," I echoed, gripping Kryzen’s hand like a lifeline as another wave of pain crested. I leaned into it, letting their guidance anchor , feeling Kryzen’s unwavering support and the expertise of Kai and the healers as they led through the tempest within.

The first hint of dawn brushed against the horizon, but I barely noticed. The storm that had raged outside for hours was now a re murmur, a soft rumbling in the distance.

"Push, Briella," Kai urged, his voice a calm command amidst the quieting chaos.

I bore down with all the strength I had left, my grip on Kryzen’s hand unyielding. "I’m trying," I gasped out, every muscle in my body tensed for the final effort.

With one last determined push, the room filled with the most beautiful sound I had ever heard—a sharp, clear cry that cut through the remnants of my exhaustion. Tears of relief and joy welled in my eyes as Kai carefully placed the tiny, wriggling bundle onto my chest.

"Kryzen," I whispered, awe coloring my voice as our daughter’s small fingers curled around one of mine, her cries subsiding into soft coos. "Look at her."

He leaned closer, his face alight with wonder, gray eyes shimring with unshed tears. His thumb tenderly stroked the downy hair atop her head. He kissed my forehead, murmuring words of love and pride.

"Emberly," I said suddenly, the na coming to like a whisper from the heart of the storm that had passed. "Her na is Emberly."

"Emberly," he repeated, testing the na, letting it roll off his tongue. A smile broke across his face, bright as the breaking dawn.

"Because of the brightness she brought after the storm and being the first child born of the Embervale Kingdom."

"Perfect," Kryzen agreed without hesitation, his voice thick with emotion. "She’s perfect, Briella. Just like you."

As the early morning light crept across the room, bathing us in its warm glow, I cradled Emberly close, feeling the bond between us solidify with every heartbeat. The pain and fear of the night ebbed away, replaced by an overwhelming sense of love and completion.

"Welco to the world, Emberly," I whispered, kissing her forehead gently. "You are our light after the storm."
