*Briella*
It felt like my body was betraying .
Nausea swirled as Kryzen held close to his chest as we rode the train back to our palace. I was angry with myself for having to cut our romantic trip short. I had never felt this sick before, so I knew we had to go back.
I was scared, but I wasn’t going to make that known to Kryzen. He seed stressed enough as it was.
The nausea was getting worse, and I was beginning to feel lightheaded as well. Thankfully, I never felt so nauseous that I was going to throw up again. I kept my face buried in Kryzen’s chest, using his familiar scent to soothe .
Kryzen murmured soothingly in my ear, and I was passed out in minutes.
It had to have been a few hours since I had been asleep because the next ti I opened my eyes, I was being cradled in Kryzen’s strong arms as he stepped through the threshold of the palace.
“The healers are ready for her, Your Majesty,” I heard one of our guards report.
“Good,” Kryzen said. “She is to be seen imdiately.”
“Of course, Your Majesty,” the guard said.
I rember telling Kryzen that we didn’t need a whole healing center in our palace, but he had insisted. Mainly, he decided it would be best since he was a naturally protective husband, but he reasoned that we have a large staff that lives in the palace full-ti. It was only right that we had healers on hand to cater to any dical needs of our staff and ourselves.
I shut my eyes as Kryzen sprinted through the hall and into the healing quarters. I was lowered onto a bed and felt so kind of device wrap around my arm.
“We’ll take good care of our queen, Your Majesty,” I heard one of the older female healers tell Kryzen soothingly. “Please wait outside while we examine her.”
I felt Kryzen brush his lips against my forehead before his footsteps sounded and got quieter and quieter.
I opened my eyes tiredly and reached my hand out in the direction Kryzen had gone. “No,” I murmured, my eyes filling with tears.
“Shh, it’s alright, Your Majesty,” said a healer, putting her warm hand over mine. “He’ll be back as soon as we run a few tests. How are you feeling?”
I focused on the kind old healer. “Really tired,” I told her, “and nauseous.”
It was getting harder to keep my eyes open. My whole body felt heavy.
“You can sleep,” she told soothingly, patting my hand again. “We’re going to take very good care of you.” She murmured sothing to a couple of the other healers. It felt like more things were being hooked up to .
I couldn’t make out what they were saying, but I thought I heard sothing about drawing blood.
That was when I passed out.
“Congratulations, Your Majesty. If you’ll wait for just a mont, we will call King Kryzen back in here so that you can deliver the great news yourself.”
I barely managed to smile at the healer before she turned and left. I stared down at my hands, my breathing starting to beco faster as I processed the test results.
This really shouldn’t have co as a surprise to either Kryzen or I really, so why was the world suddenly spinning, and I was reeling in shock at the news? This was bound to happen sooner or later since we weren’t exactly being careful or anything.
It seed like no ti at all had passed when the healer stepped back into the room, an anxious-looking Kryzen just half a step behind her.
“We will check on you in a little while, Your Majesty,” the healer said to , giving a soft smile. “It might take a few more days for your nausea to subside, but with so dication and more fluids, you should be feeling better soon. I don’t believe you’ll need monitoring tonight, so you should be able to return to your own quarters by the end of the day.”
Kryzen and I both thanked her before we were left alone.
Kryzen took my hand, looking into my eyes with confusion and relief. “You’re really going to be alright?” he asked anxiously. He narrowed his eyes. “I asked the healers what was wrong, and they told that you wanted to tell yourself.”
I sucked in a breath. I should have figured out a way to tell him instead of sitting there in stupefied shock. This was huge news, and my mind was going completely blank.
“Briella?” Kryzen asked after a mont, his hand tightening over mine. “Please say sothing, love. You’re freaking out here.”
I opened my mouth to speak, but nothing ca out. I swallowed hard. “I’m really okay,” I told him.
I was more than just okay actually. Now that Kryzen was beside , the gravity of what I had just learned was starting to settle in. An elated giggle burst from my lips.
I was happy and suddenly very excited to tell Kryzen the news.
I reached out and took Kryzen’s hands in mine. His eyes rounded slightly in surprise. I swallowed again. “Kryzen...”
One corner of his lips went up, and he tilted his head to the side. I could feel the relief settling in him a bit more as he saw the smile stretch out over my face. “I’m so glad you’re doing better,” he said. “You really scared back in the Enchanted Isles. I thought you were seriously ill, but you seem okay now. What did the healers do?”
“Everything is fine,” I assured him again. I gripped his hands tighter. “They had their suspicions of what was going on with when I told them my symptoms. It turns out that they were right. Kryzen, we’re going to have a baby.”
The smile dropped from Kryzen’s face as his jaw dropped. He stared at wordlessly for a long mont, speechless. “You’re... pregnant?” he asked finally.
I giggled again, feeling completely giddy as he said the words. I just nodded, beaming at him.
Kryzen looked down at the bedsheets. The only emotion I could read on his face was shock.
Nervousness suddenly shot through when several seconds passed, and Kryzen had yet to really react or speak.
I hadn’t even considered that he might not be happy with the news. We hadn’t discussed having children before, but I figured that it was a given since we would need an heir.
I bit my lip, holding my breath as I waited for Kryzen to speak, my heart pounding wildly in my chest.
It took another few monts, but eventually, his face broke out into a huge grin. He wrapped his arms around . “Briella,” he breathed into my hair. “This is amazing news.”
I laughed again, this ti with relief as I tossed my arms around his neck, pulling myself even closer to him. He seed to be shaking slightly, and I pulled away from him in concern. I was shocked to find that his eyes were moist but tears.
He took my face tenderly in his hands, leaning forward to gently touch his forehead to mine. He was gazing deep into my eyes, making my face heat up. “I love you,” he said, his voice rough with emotion. “I love you so much.”
My eyes filled with tears, a single droplet dripping down my cheek as I held onto Kryzen. “I love you too,” I murmured, a lump in my throat.
I had so much more to say, but Kryzen took away any opportunity for words as he crushed his lips to mine.
I moaned against Kryzen’s mouth, imdiately getting lost in the kiss. I felt the world lt away until it ceased to exist altogether. The relief and love I felt for Krzyen were heightened as we held each other tightly.
This kiss was more than just a physical expression of our affection toward one another. It was a culmination of our bond, shared journey, and the new Chapter we were about to embark on together. Nothing else mattered at that mont.
As promised, I was able to leave the healing center later that evening. The staff offered to take up to our bedroom, but Kryzen insisted on doing it himself. He lifted from the bed. After thanking the healing staff, he walked out of the healing quarters and started toward the huge staircase leading up to our bedroom.
“I can walk,” I told Kryzen for what felt like the hundredth ti.
“I know you can,” he said, moving slightly in his hold as we started to ascend the steps. “But the healers said you should be on bed rest for at least a couple of more days.”
I sighed at the reminder but leaned against Kryzen’s shoulder with contentnt. Learning that there was nothing wrong with had been a huge relief. I was told that I wasn’t getting enough vitamins. So tests showed that I should be eating more nutrient-rich foods to build up my strength.
I was prepared to feel guilty for making Kryzen walk up all those stairs with in his arms, but he did it with hardly any struggle. I marveled at his strength.
He was sohow being much gentler with now than when we thought I was ill. I gave him a wry grin. “We just learned that there’s nothing wrong with ,” I reminded him. “You don’t have to treat like I’m made out of glass.”
He kicked our door open before laying on our large plush bed. “You were already the most precious person in my life,” he said tenderly, stroking my cheek with his fingers. “And now you are carrying soone else who is just as precious to . I’m going to be even more careful and protective of you now.”
I rolled my eyes, but my cheeks burned at his tenderness. He was being so sweet. “Don’t forget even more insufferable,” I quipped, giving him a teasing grin.
He smirked at , dropped his hand, and turned to get a nightgown out of the wardrobe. He brought it back over to before helping change into it.
I opened my mouth to protest that I was perfectly capable of changing myself but saved my breath. It was going to be a losing battle with this man. I allowed him to help into the soft, light blue nightgown, shivering when his warm fingers brushed against my bare skin.
He was quiet as he helped change. His gray eyes looked far away. “We’re going to be parents,” he whispered in awe.
“We are,” I confird in the sa tone.
We stared at each other for a long mont, both of our eyes wide as the fact sank in even deeper.
I swallowed nervously before staring up at him from under my lashes. “How are you feeling about it?” I asked.
I knew he was happy. He had made that clear back downstairs in the healing center, but I knew there was more. There were layers in his expressive eyes.
“Nervous,” he admitted but then gave a grin. “But so excited to et our child. You have no idea.”
I laughed, relieved since I was feeling the exact sa way. “Have you ever thought about the possibility of having children?”
He tilted his head and looked up, considering that for a mont. “Well, sure,” he said. “But it was always sothing I just assud would happen, you know? I knew that one day, I would have kids but haven’t really thought about what that would be like.”
I sucked in a breath, realizing just how true that was for . “It’s a huge step,” I agreed.
Kryzen saw the nervousness on my face and took my hands, brushing his thumbs over my knuckles. “We’re going to be amazing parents,” he promised . “Our child will want for nothing.”
