Volu 10, Chapter 56: Underground Tunnel

The biggest differences between human and demon tunnels......is that there isn’t any light in demon tunnels.

That’s right, there’s isn’t any sources of light. According to Greed, demons typically either use their inherent night vision or bring lanterns with them. They don’t think to install any lamps when they build these underground passages.

And there is a bit of difference between this passage and the ones we’ve gone through before. What we are walking through is a passage that was built out of a nearby sewer system.

The sewers are naturally only in the city though. As we headed over towards the enemy camp the sewers drained into a large hole. Turning the corner, we headed over towards them.

“Greed, what was the purpose of this underground passage?”

“Um......I don’t know it’s original purpose, but according to the records, there are several crypts in the area, escape tunnels, and things like private warehouses. They overlap each other and created a large system of underground passages.”

“Crypts? Aren’t demons a subset of humans that transford into undead?”

“Naturally born demons have physical bodies, so they would naturally need crypts.”

“Makes sense.”

“I get the feeling that this place is similar to the Human World.”

Hei Luoli said.

“The Eastern Continent is full of similar escape routes. So of them go on for several kiloters.”

“That’s really horrible......”

I said, wiping away my sweat.

Aren’t you afraid that digging around like this will cause the ground to collapse?

“Let’s keep on going. I have to ask though, are there any monsters in this passage?”

I quickly asked her this when I saw that she was pushing open a door, deeper in the passage.

“Well......it depends.”

She shrugged.

“We don’t use these passages that often after all.”

“That makes sense, but you are familiar with this passage.”

“Well......”

Greed shrugged.

“Because you can find valuable items down here, I’ll soti co down here to play when I don’t have anything to do.”

“......”

We were all embarrassed. There was soone who would actually co here because of that. Silently, I looked at Aliyah.

“Cough cough. Um, it sounds really interesting. I’ll co for a walk so other ti.”

“There will be a chance later on.”

As we headed down the passage, the condition of surrounding walls beca steadily worse.

The passages of the city are well maintained compared to this one. If the tunnel we passed through is typical then what we are going though feels unfinished.

And now......

Doesn’t this feel like a collapsing mine tunnel?

There were few intact pieces of floor tile left and it had gotten to the point where parts of the surroundings had sunk down. On top of that, black earth had already begun to flow out of holes in the walls and obstruct the path.

At this ti, I summoned the rock totem to hold up the ceiling until all of my friends could pass.

None of us wanted sothing like a tunnel collapse in the plot. Sothing like that is far too much of a bother.

But this was even more trouble than we expected. It wasn’t just that so of the passages had collapsed and blocked the way, a larger problem greeted us as we reached the end of the passage.

Right, just as it is in most plotlines, the passage ahead had been blocked by rocks, and it seed to be forming a thick barrier.

“Maybe so monster damaged the floor, causing the area to collapse? It wasn’t collapsed the last ti I ca this way.”

“That’s really botherso.”

I looked around the passage, but there wasn’t any tunnels that ran next to it.

“What should we do? Do you have a different route prepared?”

“There is......there must be sothing. The underground passages extend in all directions after all, so there must be a way to get around it.”

Greed looked towards us.

“Do you have a map of the underground passages? We can’t find a route if you don’t have a map.”

“Well, I usually take the sa and from there I would keep exploring. So I went down the sa route I was familiar with.”

“That’s really......”

Before I could finish speaking, there was a loud bang.

When I turned to look, it seems that Tai Shixi had opened a hole in the wall.

“Ahhhh! What are you doing!”

“Eh? I tapped on one of the walls and it sounded like it was hollow behind it, so I opened a hole.”

“That’s......”

Looking around, I couldn’t see any signs of collapse and sighed in relief.

“Well, let’s explore it. Where does the next passage lead, Tai Shixi?”

“Um......”

She poked her head into the hole.

“It looks like......it’s a tunnel in the sa direction. And it looks very clean.”

“Clean?”

Greed exclaid, running over.

“Ohhhh This passage...... I can’t believe that it’s in such good condition!”

“What does it an?”

“It ans that we have either reached a passage into another tomb, or that this is an unused escape route. It’s good for us either way.”

“That’s great, I sll treasure.”

Aliyah said with a nod.

“Hey, weren’t we heading out to make a sneak attack......”

I laughed bitterly.

“Well~”

Aliyah and Greed replied at the sa ti.

“We can do it along the way.”

You two have the potential to beco bandits.
