Chapter 421: Chapter 421: Organizing Space Supplies
Gu Pan first arranged the vehicles side by side and then took out the supplies.
The gasoline was stored in their own designated area for fuel and diesel, stacked high, making one feel wealthy just by looking at it.
After that, Gu Pan loaded the planting soil and equipnt onto a vehicle, so they could simply take out the entire vehicle when needed in the future.
The loaded vehicles were placed on one side, and the empty ones on the other, well organized.
In the supplies from Gu Ci’s team, there wasn’t much in the way of food and daily necessities, which were piled to one side because Gu Pan and his team would not eat them, as they couldn’t be sure they were safe.
After arranging these, it was ti for the main event. Although the most important items from the base had been moved onto the ship, anything that could be taken from the base was also significant.
They checked the contents of roughly thirty trucks one by one.
The first truck contained soil, indicating a shared importance placed on soil after the mutation. This was understandable—if plants were grown in the mutated soil, they might mutate as well.
The second and third trucks also carried soil. Gu Pan left these trucks untouched, parking them next to the vehicle with supplies for easy categorization and clarity on what they had.
The fourth vehicle held planting tools and such, which also remained in place, continuing the orderly arrangent.
The fifth and sixth trucks were filled with canned and vacuum-packed food, products made later at the base that were not used during the smog, likely intended as a last resort during their journey. Unfortunate for them, these supplies ended up at the bottom of the water.
Starting from the sixth vehicle, the rest contained various machinery and spare parts, including chemical and manufacturing equipnt. Gu Pan thought that they should find a way to give these to Mount Everest Base eventually so they could be put to proper use.
There were no seeds or similar items in these trucks; those critical supplies were probably either on the ship or in the Fla Box.
Gu Pan and his team decided not to move these items, just leaving them in the Space until needed.
Finally, they neatly arranged all their small machines and equipnt, researching which could be used for independent manufacturing.
She couldn’t take out the machines from the base vehicles now because they all had markings, which could lead to problems later.
Now, Gu Pan’s team had the machinery to produce plastic products, with raw materials needing to be purchased from Mount Everest, since they knew there was a chemical factory there.
Afterward, they ca to the equipnt and materials from an eyeglass store, which was abundant enough to open their own store.
There were also grinders, textile machines, atball machines, glass noodle makers, and more. Though there were many types, most couldn’t be used.
For instance, what was the use of soy product machinery without any soybeans?
So it was a matter of determining what could be utilized.
In the end, Gu Pan’s gaze fell upon books and so modern technological exhibits, collections from libraries and museums, respectively. If they were to open a library and a museum at Mount Everest Base, people would probably find these useful.
They decided not to bother with the small chemical factory equipnt; it wasn’t good for one’s health.
For now, Mount Everest Base had its own eyeglass store, so they would keep theirs back, waiting for a ti when they were scarcer to maximize their impact.
Plans change faster than one can adapt; they had initially thought about negotiating with the base to open a small factory on a comrcial basis, but now, if they were to start a library and museum, it would take on a more cultural flavor.
But when they truly started to consider these matters, they suddenly realized their greater value. Over six years into the apocalypse, it seed people were gradually forgetting their lives before. If they could establish such venues at Mount Everest Base, it would be greatly beneficial for people’s morale.
Mount Everest had beco mankind’s last foothold, so they hoped for better developnt here. If this place were destroyed, humanity would have no choice but to perish. If they hid away in Space, awaiting death, then everything would still end up vanishing in the end.
Thus, they were now not afraid to take these things out to contribute to Mount Everest Base’s developnt.
As for their source, that could be easily explained—they could say they were from the cruise ship, specifically stored in the sealed uppermost level. Since the cruise ship belonged to them, these items did too.
When the ti ca, they would simply transport them halfway by truck and have their own people bring them back. Both Lu Ruisheng and Gu Pan realized that their people knew they had secrets, but they were all protecting them, which truly ward their hearts.
After making their decision, the two left Space without informing their people at a specific ti. They went to et with Lu Jianguo first to discuss the feasibility of their plan and would share the good news with their people once everything was ready.
Since the water levels had remained high and, judging by past patterns, no other natural disasters were likely to occur at this ti, they were relatively safe.
But when they went outside, they still habitually wore helts and donned long-sleeved shirts and pants—the kind designed for sun and rain protection—and put on sunglasses.
These were the bare minimum equipnt they carried whenever they ventured out.
If one or two people dressed in such a manner, they might look sowhat odd. But when everyone did the sa, it no longer felt out of place. In fact, if you dressed in less, you’d be the odd one out.
Mount Everest Base was humanity’s last stronghold, so the people here were well equipped—after all, those who made it to this place either had so background or ability.
Upon reaching the building where Lu Jianguo worked, since it was their first visit to Mount Everest Base and they were uncertain of his office’s location, Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng started by asking for information downstairs.
The staff in the guard room called Lu Jianguo, confird their identities, registered them, and then provided them with the location of Lu Jianguo’s office before letting them in.
They entered, ascended to the third floor, and, looking at the naplates, found Lu Jianguo’s na. Lu Jianguo was now the Deputy Base Commander. Mount Everest Base’s structure was more stringent than No.7 Base’s had been before, with none of the previous redundancies in positions—just one Base Commander and one Deputy Base Commander. So, at Mount Everest Base, Lu Jianguo held a significant position.
Of course, he was now busier than ever. After coming here, he hadn’t once visited Gu Pan’s side because he was working overti every day.
Today, Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng ca to see him, bring him so food, and gently remind him that he couldn’t work overti every day. He wasn’t getting any younger and needed to pay attention to his health.
Upon arriving at his office door, they encountered Lu Jianguo’s secretary coming out—a newly assigned secretary nad Liu Chen.
Liu Chen had overheard Lu Jianguo’s phone call and knew it was Lu Jianguo’s son and daughter-in-law visiting, so he was very polite, “The Deputy Base Commander is inside waiting for you.”
After greeting Liu Chen, Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng stepped into the office.
Lu Jianguo finished writing his last word, set down his pen, and stood up, “I knew you’d be coming. Co, sit over here. You don’t have to worry about . I know my body—if I’m tired, I rest.”
Lu Ruisheng looked at his father, frowning slightly, “Dad, if you really knew, you wouldn’t worry us enough to co talk to you.”
Lu Jianguo chuckled and changed the subject, “You’ve been well since coming here, haven’t you? Have you faced any difficulties?”
Gu Pan shook her head, “No, everything’s been going well.”
Lu Jianguo turned to Liu Chen, “Xiao Liu, go get so hot water.”
Liu Chen wasn’t at his position due to a lack of intelligence. He’d already been looking for an excuse to step out, as he knew a family was talking. Seizing the mont, he quickly obliged, carrying the thermos out and making sure to close the door behind him.
Once Liu Chen had left, Lu Jianguo looked at the two and asked, “There’s sothing else you want to talk about, isn’t there?”
