The apocalypse had driven many people mad, and there were plenty at No.7 Base before, but none had been relocated because of their ntal issues, docunted in base records. Even those with tickets weren’t allowed to transfer.

It hadn’t been expected that, after such a long ti, new cases of madness would erge. The apocalypse truly wasn’t sothing ordinary people could endure.
The next day, Lu Jianshe ca over because of the incident yesterday.
After he entered the house and settled on the sofa, there were juice and room temperature water on the coffee table.
Gu Pan and her group had already cleaned up the house to have a holy feel, even though many pieces of furniture were broken, but they could fix them themselves.
Lu Ruisheng poured a glass of juice for Lu Jianshe, “Second Uncle, have so juice.”
Lu Jianshe took a sip, “Have I not tasted this for too long, or does it taste just like freshly squeezed orange juice?”
Gu Pan thought to herself, Second Uncle really had a discerning palate—it was indeed fresh orange juice—but she couldn’t say that and simply replied, “It’s all mixed from powder. Maybe Second Uncle is just really craving for the taste of oranges.”
Lu Jianshe laughed at himself, “Indeed, where can one find fresh orange juice now? Even the canned fruits from the base before, we dare not eat them so casually now. Who knows when this damned weather will end. If it lasts another half a year, we’ll be short on food.”
Lu Ruisheng said, “Don’t worry, Second Uncle. We have food here, and cans too. If Second Aunt and you want to eat anything, just co here. It’s not convenient for you to cook separately at the communal als, but if you want sothing, just co over.”
Gu Pan took out several small packets of snacks she had sealed herself from the kitchen and handed them to Lu Jianshe, “Second Uncle, these are what we made before. You and Second Aunt can secretly snack on these, and there’s a packet of fruit jelly. You can add so to your water, it’s at least a way to get so vitamins.”
Lu Jianshe didn’t take them, “No way. Resources are getting scarcer, you should keep them for yourselves. Rember, never show weakness with your food supplies to the authorities; it’s not necessary. With so many people around, they won’t miss what you have, and while these might help you survive, they couldn’t sustain the entire base. Be selfish when you need to be. Your dad can sotis be too selfless, just learn a bit from him.”
What he said made sense and was based on Lu Jianshe’s deep understanding of Lu Jianguo. Indeed, Lu Jianguo valued the greater good, but in tis of the apocalypse, it’s sotis better to be a little selfish.
Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng both agreed with Second Uncle.
Then, Lu Ruisheng added, “Second Uncle, our family of five must all survive. Rember, if you’re ever in danger, even if the base’s military can’t deal with it, you must co to us. Panpan and I have a way.”
He had discussed with Gu Pan that if there ever ca a day when humanity was on the brink of extinction, they would bring their own people into the Space, so that at least they wouldn’t be alone when they died.
Lu Jianshe had felt before that his nephew and niece-in-law had special abilities. After living through the apocalypse for so long, people beca more accepting of things that science couldn’t explain. If everything could be explained by science, then the reason for the apocalypse wouldn’t make sense.
He told them, “Second Uncle knows you have abilities, don’t worry. I don’t want to die yet. With you around, I want to watch you for a few more years. If we can all survive until the apocalypse ends, I still want to babysit for you.”
After saying that, he clarified, “I’m not rushing you into childbirth. Second Aunt and I feel that’s entirely your business. If you decide to have children, we’ll help take care of them. If not, we can still travel around our great country.”
Gu Pan smiled, “Understood. Honestly, as for having children, we really can’t say for now, and who knows what the future holds. Let’s talk about it later.”
Lu Jianshe agreed that such talk was too premature. He said, “Indeed, let’s not talk about that for now. Oh, about that guy who went crazy and attacked soone yesterday, he’s been expelled. But there might still be people like that in the future, so you all need to be careful. Don’t let your guard down, because those who suddenly beco ntally unstable won’t give you ti to prepare.”
Gu Pan responded, “I understand, Second Uncle. We’ll definitely be cautious. It’s going to be harder to find peace from now on.” Her statent was spot on; as ti passed, people beca more fragile, and with the lack of food and clothing, the spirits of many were close to breaking.
Lu Jianshe sighed, “That’s why you must lock your doors well. Fortunately, your team is composed of battle-hardened individuals, so I’m reassured.”
“Don’t worry, Second Uncle, we’re all safe, and there aren’t many of us in each room. Panpan and I are staying in a room by ourselves, so we’ll be prepared for anything that might co up,” Lu Ruisheng said.
“Speaking of which, it was largely thanks to you that we were able to subdue that madman yesterday and minimize the injuries. It’s a pity there’s nothing available to reward and comnd you with. The base asked to express their gratitude to you today.” Lu Jianshe and the others had held a eting for this reason the night before.
Gu Pan admitted, “Ruisheng and Brother Guo are soldiers, so they couldn’t back down in the face of a situation like that.”
Lu Jianshe nodded, “My kid has a strong sense of justice, and I’m proud of him. But rember, your own safety is the most important.”
Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng both quickly agreed, not wanting to worry Lu Jianguo.
After chatting a bit more, Lu Jianshe said his goodbyes and left, as he had a lot of official matters to attend to.
Still, Gu Pan packed so food for Lu Jianshe, and also gave him so masks, insisting that he regularly change them without hesitation, as safety ca first; they had hidden plenty and told him to co get so whenever he needed.
Although Lu Jianshe didn’t know how they managed to bring out their supplies, he was aware that these two kids always seed to have an abundance of everything. In the end, he didn’t refuse and, taking the goods and donning his gear, he left.
Once they locked the door, Guo Gang asked over the intercom, “Was it about yesterday’s incident?”
“Yes,” Lu Ruisheng replied, “the madman has been expelled.”
Expulsion was sothing everyone understood; it ant leaving soone to fend for themselves, essentially a death sentence, just phrased more politely.
But everyone was also acutely aware that their team couldn’t afford such a burden; the base had made the choice that was most beneficial, without a doubt.
In the evening, soone knocked on the door, and both Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng were on high alert as they checked through the peephole.
The one knocking was a woman: “I’m one of the people you saved yesterday, and my wound seems to be infected. I was hoping to get so dicine from you.”
After exchanging a glance, Gu Pan responded through the door, “We don’t have any dicine left. You should go ask the dical team at the base instead; the little we had yesterday was already used up.”
The woman didn’t seem to want to leave, “I’m all by myself now, and I’m scared. I know you all co from trained backgrounds; can I stay with you?”
Lu Ruisheng was blunt, “No, please go back.”
The woman’s crying could be heard, “I don’t an anything by it, I’m just really afraid. My companions are dead, and I’m so scared being alone. Please, just let stay with you for a few days.”
Lu Ruisheng’s tone remained firm, “We have our own team and our own people. We cannot take in outsiders, so don’t waste your ti.”
Gu Pan added, “There’s also smog in the corridor. If you care about your own health, you should get back quickly.”
