Chapter 392: Chapter 392 Wedding
The wedding ceremony took place in the living room of Cheng Yang’s house.
Cheng Yang carried Fang Lanlan into the living room, where Squad Leader Fang and Lu Jianguo were seated in the main seats. The reason why Lu Jianguo was also in a principal position was partly due to his status, and partly due to his age and seniority.
The rest were seated on both sides. ng ng and Chen Lang were the best man and bridesmaid, though ng ng looked more like a flower girl. But given the limited number of people available, it had to suffice.
Chen Shaonan was chosen to host because, as a teacher, he was accustod to speaking on stage, making him a natural fit for the role.
The script had been prepared in advance, and today Chen Shaonan was uncommonly nervous because such a wedding carried the hopes of many people and symbolized a very important aning.
He cleared his throat, “Today, I am honored to stand here and preside over the wedding of this happy couple. On behalf of all the guests, I wish to bless them with a love that is full and ever-flowing, as they walk together towards a bright and happy future.”
Indeed, these words might seem very official, echoing those before the apocalypse, but in the context of post-apocalypse, their aning could be interpreted quite differently.
Gu Pan and the others applauded together.
Then Chen Shaonan invited the wedding officiant, Lu Jianguo, to speak.
Today, Lu Jianguo didn’t use any official jargon but sincerely wished that they could survive the apocalypse and live a happy life.
Next was Squad Leader Fang’s speech. He had a lot to say, but fearing it would make everyone lancholic, he also expressed his blessings simply, hoping the couple would support each other and make it through the apocalypse.
Not many speeches had been scheduled. Who didn’t understand the apocalypse? Speaking too much would only be burdenso. Better to eat and drink more later during the al.
The exchange of rings and reading of the wedding vows proceeded swiftly. They drank from the bridal cup, and thus the ceremony was complete.
There was no need for a wedding certificate now, so Gu Pan prepared a marriage docunt for the couple, an ancient practice that still held significant aning in Huaxia.
With the ceremony concluded, the feast began.
There were still two tables, with plenty of food. Today Gu Pan even fried a dish of eggs, having previously stated no one should ask where these things ca from. Today was a day of happiness, to enjoy food and drink to the full.
Cheng Yang and Fang Lanlan made toasts at both tables, then sat down to eat. Since there were few people, they didn’t need to adhere to many ancient etiquettes. One had to adapt to the circumstances at hand.
However, Gu Pan brought two bottles of low-alcohol good wine. It was a happy day, so except for the underage ng ng, everyone had a drink.
Thinking that no one would be on guard or patrolling to watch over things, they had moved all the valuable supplies into a corner of Cheng Yang’s living room early in the morning. Even if everyone got drunk, with so many people around the supplies, they wouldn’t be in danger.
Moreover, the tickets to Mount Everest were with Gu Pan. They trusted that no one could steal Gu Pan’s things, for after all, the cartload of grain she had hidden so well years ago was still so fresh when distributed to them. It would have been impossible for soone else to keep it, as it would’ve surely gone moldy and sprouted hair by now.
Thus, today they had no concerns and could simply enjoy their al and drinks.
Only, Gu Pan was worried about the strawberries and lons in their house being stolen, so Lu Jianguo especially had his secretary co to watch over them.
While they were eating, they saved a portion of the food for Lu Jianguo’s secretary, which ng ng delivered.
As a result, ng ng caught a thief while delivering the al.
The thief hadn’t made it into Gu Pan’s house, but as soon as he arrived at the doorway, ng ng spotted him. Seeing that the person wasn’t big, ng ng tackled him by herself and pinned him to the ground.
Lu Jianguo’s secretary was startled by the noise and ca out. “Little girl, did you catch this person?”
ng ng nodded her head. “He’s probably a thief. Since the wedding over there is so festive, we didn’t call them. Let’s tie this person up, and later Uncle Lu can deal with him.”
Lu Jianguo’s secretary looked at ng ng and smiled. “You’re not very big, but you’re very calm.”
Feeling flattered, ng ng scratched her head. “It’s okay, I guess.”
The thief who was caught was really frustrated. If he had been caught by an adult in the house, he wouldn’t have been as upset, but to be captured by a kid? Now he didn’t want to say anything, he even wanted to die.
Lu Jianguo’s secretary tied the man up, and ng ng gave her food before going back to continue with the feast. However, she worried and went back ho to check again, only to catch another thief.
It’s not surprising; they were hosting a wedding today, and many people knew about it. From the outside, they could see everyone congregating in the central house—a perfect opportunity for thieves.
Unfortunately for them, all the supplies had been moved to the new living room, and all the tickets were in Gu Pan’s hands. With Lu Jianguo’s secretary watching over Gu Pan’s house and the fruit, there wasn’t any chance for mischief.
Gu Pan and the others didn’t worry, so they didn’t patrol or anything, but no one expected that ng ng would catch two thieves.
After the banquet ended, Lu Jianguo and his secretary took the two thieves away.
Gu Pan and the others had a little to drink, not too much, just enough to be tipsy. Afterwards, everyone took their belongings ho. After all, tonight Cheng Yang and Fang Lanlan needed privacy for their wedding chamber and couldn’t be bothered with watching over the supplies.
That night, everyone tried not to walk about too late, to avoid disturbing Cheng Yang’s performance.
Lu Ruisheng and Gu Pan lay in bed, reminiscing about their own wedding night, feeling very sweet about it. It seed like it was just yesterday, but who could have imagined so many years had passed since the apocalypse.
Cheng Yang was in good shape. Despite the apocalypse, he never suffered with the food because he was with Gu Pan’s group, and with regular exercise, his body was strong, so he hardly slept that night.
Fang Lanlan was also healthy, but even she couldn’t withstand Cheng Yang’s vigorous activities. She had planned to get up early the next day to thank everyone, but when she woke up, the sun was already high in the sky.
Not finding Cheng Yang in the room, Fang Lanlan hurriedly got dressed and went out to wash up.
As soon as she reached the living room, she saw Gu Pan bringing over a basin of chicken soup. “Lanlan, you really need to nourish yourself well today.”
Fang Lanlan’s face turned beet red. “Thank you, sis.”
Gu Pan looked at her with a smile. “Not bad, you have a rosy complexion. You have a couple of days off, so just enjoy your ti at ho with Cheng Yang. For als and such, I’ll bring them over for you.”
Nowadays, a honeymoon was out of the question. Just getting married ant the two could really relax completely, and that was considered very good.
At that mont, Lu Xuerong and Duan Shui also ca over, each bringing dishes from their hos. Just like Gu Pan said, for the next few days, they wouldn’t have to cook; soone from each household would bring over a dish.
Fang Lanlan was truly grateful and touched. These neighbors were more like family.
Cheng Yang ca in from outside, fresh and cheerful as he greeted everyone. He had just been to the nearby woods to pick a few wildflowers.
Gu Pan and the rest laughed when they saw the flowers in Cheng Yang’s hands. They said no more, put down their gifts, said their goodbyes quickly, and went ho to not disturb the newlyweds.
Fang Lanlan blushed with embarrassnt, and eting Cheng Yang’s fervent gaze, she didn’t know where to look.
