Chapter 36: Chapter 36: Rescue Chapter 36: Chapter 36: Rescue The next morning, the hallway was still very quiet.

Gu Pan and the others ignored this, fixed the broken iron door, and then went to practice self-defense in room 901 first.

All the items from Cheng Yang’s living room and dining room had been moved to the study, making it quite spacious.

Lu Ruisheng taught the n, while Gu Pan taught the won, focusing on self-defense and lethal techniques. There was no ti to practice basic skills now, as the goal was self-preservation and killing.

Cheng Yang and Chen Lang learned quickly due to their youth, but the remaining middle-aged people were sowhat slower, taking ti to recover from falls. However, having witnessed what happened last night, they endured the pain and forced themselves to stand up.

Chen Shaonan was rubbing his lower back and sitting on a bench by the wall when suddenly a thought struck him, and he stood up, “Our physical abilities might not be good, but we can make so weapons. I have materials at ho that can be used to create small stun guns. If we really get into close-quarters combat, we could incapacitate the opponent first, wouldn’t that give us an edge?”

This was sothing Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng had never considered; knowledge really was useful at any ti.

Gu Pan was of course very supportive, “That sounds great. If you lack any materials, we’ll figure it out together.”

Chen Shaonan said, “Alright, I’ll draw up the blueprints tonight and let you know what we’re missing.”

With that decided, after the training, everyone went out together to look for supplies. Today, Duan Shui and Lu Xuerong also joined them, their spirits bolstered by their newfound resolve.

They understood that in the apocalypse, one must have the ability to survive, not constantly rely on others or beco a burden to their family.

As they walked, they discussed future plans, contemplating what to do if the disaster continued for years.

When they passed by a mall, they saw about a dozen injured people at the entrance, with bloodstains on the ground.

Among the injured, a middle-aged man pleaded, “Please help us, just deliver a ssage to our families so they know where we died. The robbers have left; there’s no danger now.”

As an ergency room doctor, Feng Zhekai was the first to approach and examine the wounded.

Gu Pan, not letting her guard down amidst the apocalypse, warned Lu Xuerong and others, “Don’t go over there yet. Dr. Feng, being a doctor, isn’t an easy target for enemies to kill at any ti. But we’re different, so we need to make sure the surroundings are safe before we approach.”

She then said to Lu Ruisheng, “Let’s check the surroundings first.”

Lu Ruisheng nodded, “Okay.”

Then he told Chen Shaonan and the others, “Don’t move; keep yourselves safe.”

Chen Shaonan understood Lu Ruisheng’s words, “We understand.”

After checking the surroundings and ensuring there was no danger, Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng signaled everyone to co and help.

Aiding the urgent without assisting the needy, these people searching for food were also trying hard to survive. Helping them was the least they could do, whether they could survive was up to fate.

Feng Zhekai attended to the nearest man first, who had a severe head injury with heavy bleeding. He pulled out gauze and ds from his pocket, a habit he had maintained, especially after the apocalypse took hold.

Gu Pan asked Lu Xuerong and Duan Shui to help find sothing to start a fire, as without heat, none of the injured would make it through.

Soon, they found plenty of combustibles and Gu Pan led them to start a fire in the supermarket.

Lu Ruisheng and the others helped move the injured near the fire, but due to the environntal conditions, four of them died before they could even be moved to the fire.

Chen Shaonan perford CPR on a young man, but he passed away after a short while.

Chen Shaonan sighed, “If we hadn’t been neighbors with Xiao Lu and Xiao Gu, we might have died at any mont like them.”

Duan Shui also said, “Yes, we are lucky.”

Listening to their conversation, Gu Pan thought about how their families had disappeared after leaving in her previous life; they likely had encountered misfortune.

After Feng Zhekai treated several wounded, he told them, “Your injuries are severe and can’t be stitched. With this temperature, don’t leave the fire until your wounds have healed completely, or even gods can’t save you. Stay by this fire tonight, and go ho once your wounds have crusted tomorrow.”

The middle-aged man who had initially called out to Zhekai sobbed, “We thought today was our end. We just wanted to leave a ssage for our families. We never expected to et such kind-hearted people in such an apocalypse.”

Gu Pan responded, “Even in the apocalypse, we have our principles. We can’t ignore those in danger, but this is all the help we can offer. The rest is up to you.”

She then took out a few packets of compressed biscuits and several bottles of water from her bag and left them with the wounded.

Cheng Yang and Chen Lang also gathered more wood, piling it up so they could keep the fire going until the next day.

The grateful people thanked them repeatedly, feeling the warmth not just from the fire but also from their kindness.

If it hadn’t been the apocalypse, ambulances would have arrived quickly, and in warr weather, many might not have died. Of course, if it weren’t the apocalypse, they wouldn’t have been robbed on the streets in the first place.

With mixed feelings, Gu Pan and the others said goodbye to these people and left.

This experience reinforced their resolve to beco stronger, so they wouldn’t be easily bullied.

Today, they were even more cautious while scavenging for supplies, working in pairs or groups of three, unlike before when they had split up, to avoid any accidents.

Today’s haul wasn’t large, which was expected; finding supplies would only get tougher as available items dwindled with each passing day. So they worked harder to gather and stockpile supplies now.

Although Gu Pan had her Space, they couldn’t completely isolate themselves from the world, especially since the Space wasn’t accessible all day, so they had to integrate into normal life.

With enough ti today, they moved the items they had previously hidden outside to the morgue base, then returned to their residential community.

At the entrance to their building, the head of the building was waiting for them.

Seeing them return, he fawned, “You’re back. You weren’t hurt last night, were you?”

Gu Pan laughed, “It’s been a day, and you’re just asking now? Isn’t it a bit late?” After saying this, she added, “By the way, we won’t be joining that patrol duty anymore. Your patrols aren’t effective, so we’re withdrawing.”

This caught the building head off guard, “Yesterday’s robbers were desperate; the patrols couldn’t compete, but at least we kept thieves out, which is still useful.”

Gu Pan replied, “Our defenses keep thieves out too, but we’re aid at preventing robberies, so we really don’t need the sa approach. Hence, we’re pulling out.”
