Chapter 343: Chapter 343 Respect

A woman in a red short skirt stepped forward, “Little sister, just because you don’t need it doesn’t an nobody else does. With so many people, there’s bound to be soone in need. You understand what physical needs are, right?”

Gu Pan laughed, “Actually, we really don’t have any needs. Most of us are couples, and the only single person is with kin. Who do you think would need it?”

The woman in red blinked, muttering to herself, why was there such a high number of won in this group? This didn’t make sense.

She couldn’t fathom what was wrong, “Little sister, do you know how hard it is to survive in the apocalypse? Isn’t it all for a bite to eat? If I had your skills, I wouldn’t have to do this for a living, right? Just take pity on your sister here, let the n in your team who are in need relax a bit, it’ll only be a mont.”

Gu Pan, faced with such straightforward words, laughed for a while, “No, you really misunderstood , I didn’t tell a lie.” After saying that, she spoke into the walkie-talkie, “We’ve co across a service lady who doesn’t believe all of us are in couples and the won aren’t idle. Say a word over the radio.”

She didn’t say everyone should speak. If the other party was a bad person, here to scout them, they couldn’t let on exactly how many of them there were.

Soon, Fang Lanlan, Duan Shui, and Lu Xuerong all spoke through the walkie-talkie.

The woman in the red skirt was flabbergasted again, “No way, you really have so many won? There’s not even one single man?”

Gu Pan smiled and said, “The singles are all with kin, it’s simply not convenient.” She did not reveal their numbers, so she kept her words vague.

The woman in the red skirt was truly sweating now, “No way, I finally et so many people, and there’s not even one in need of service?”

Disappointnt was evident on the faces of several won beside her. Already suffering from malnutrition year-round, their faces turned even more pallid now.

Gu Pan addressed the woman in the red dress, “We respect your work. Let’s speak amicably. Shouldn’t you let us go now?”

The woman in the red dress looked at Gu Pan, “Little sister, I’m really jealous of capable won like you. That deadbeat husband of mine sold when we were starving. We barely managed to escape, but without doing this, we still can’t get food. Sorry for the embarrassnt.”

Gu Pan felt quite awkward too, this woman might be in an improper line of work, but she seed honest enough.

However, in the apocalypse, no one could save anyone else. All she could do was say, “We’ve also been through lots of hardships. Nobody has it easy during the apocalypse. Take care, and let’s hope we all make it until the end.”

The woman in the red skirt took a deep breath, “Let’s hope so. I wish you a smooth road ahead.”

Gu Pan also said, “And I wish you… that you get to eat your fill every day.” She was about to say ‘prosper in business,’ but it didn’t seem right, so she changed it to eating well every day.

The woman laughed upon hearing this, “You know, I like that wish of yours. Let’s hope we et again in the future.”

Gu Pan responded, “Let’s hope the next ti we et, the apocalypse is over. Goodbye.”

“Goodbye.”

Lu Ruisheng drove away from the place, their cars followed behind. The won watching their departure envied the won in the group, their families, their ability to protect themselves, and that they got enough to eat.

In the apocalypse, won like Gu Pan were what so many outside of the bases aspired to be, but not everyone was fortunate enough to have such an opportunity.

They had thought about fighting and looting like n, but without the skill and strength, they were not at an advantage in combat.

They also considered setting traps, but executing that without experience, without having learned how, was practically digging a hole for themselves.

So, after all their struggles, they were back to the sa ans of survival. She didn’t want it, but to stay alive, there was no choice.

After leaving, Duan Shui was the first to speak over the radio, “For them to survive like that isn’t easy.”

Before the apocalypse, such professions were scorned, but afterwards, it was different. With no law outside, survival beca the only goal.

Lu Xuerong said, “Yes, survival in the apocalypse demands all our strength.”

The sentint resonated with everyone, indeed, just being alive was difficult. Who wasn’t fighting just to survive?

They fell silent afterward, continuing the drive, searching for any place where supplies could be found.

Because it was dangerous in the city, they each drove their own vehicle, with one person navigating and another on security. They donned the highest level of defense gear, bulletproof vests, and helts, and their cars were fitted with bullet-resistant glass, maximizing safety.

The rest positioned themselves in the back of the truck, with machine guns and cannons at the ready. Duan Shui also prepared explosives. In the event of a battle, close combat, their bombs would be decisive, as outsiders wouldn’t easily get their hands on such weapons. Plus, four years into the apocalypse, not everyone who understood chemistry still had functional explosives.

But theirs were tried and tested by Duan Shui, made with the best materials, and they had plenty—a clear advantage over others.

By evening, they prepared to leave the city.

They thought the trip had been smooth until they encountered a roadblock while exiting. Fortunately, they had experience; the detection equipnt in their vehicles alerted them from a distance. Lu Ruisheng was the first to stop.

No sooner had the vehicle stopped than they were surrounded by a group of ard people, front and back.

Of course, Gu Pan and her team were prepared. Mortars and machine guns in the back were set up.

Duan Shui and Chen Shaonan held explosive packs.

Seeing these weapons, the opposition was dumbstruck, wondering if these were even more advanced than military arms.

Gu Pan used a loudspeaker to address the encircling group, “We don’t want to hurt anyone. You have a choice: retreat or battle. It’s up to you.”

Just after her words, soone shouted, “Retreat!”

These people quickly withdrew, taking the roadblock with them at a speed comparable to monkeys scrambling up a hill.

They had limited weapons and couldn’t afford a direct confrontation; hence the roadblock had been their ploy. Hoping to force a compromise using their numbers and ho turf advantage, they assud that the other party would fear them.

Now, facing their adversaries’ armants, they realized without a fight, they would be annihilated by just a couple of those explosive packs. The opposition seed well-trained, and they were outmatched, so a hasty retreat was the best strategy.

Gu Pan and the rest exited the city swiftly. The war hadn’t escalated; them having food supplies ant they could continue to survive. If they had encountered a group running out of ammunition and food, they would have had to fight to the death, as starvation would have been the alternative.

But with resources still available, they weren’t willing to risk their lives; there was still a way out.

This was a reminder for Gu Pan and her team if they t a team on the brink of starvation—that would be a fierce battle, with the opposition potentially fighting to the death.

After leaving, they settled to rest on a hillside with mountains and water around, open and free from danger.
