Chapter 341: Chapter 341 Ready to Fight at Any Ti
They made sure to hide those things securely to protect them from rats, then set out lightly on the road again.
In the car, Chen Lang could hardly conceal his excitent, “Brother, sister, it’s so great that we all ca out together. As long as we’re together, we are invincible.”
Lu Ruisheng, while driving, glanced at Chen Lang through the rearview mirror, “Don’t be arrogant. In the apocalypse, people must be careful and cautious to survive.”
Chen Lang humbly accepted the advice, “I understand. I’m just happy to be out with you all. The sky has cleared, and sotis I think, how wonderful it would be if the apocalypse ended just like this.”
Gu Pan sighed, “We can only wish. We all know the apocalypse won’t end now.”
Because the base had issued a warning, more disasters were coming, possibly heavy rain or dense fog.
Although these disasters were not deadly, they ant another stretch of sunless days, signaling that food and drink would still be limited. If these disasters continued back-to-back, it ant a long ti before they could venture out again.
Chen Lang also sighed, “Ah, the grass just can’t grow tall.”
While they were talking, Guo Gang shouted through the walkie-talkie, “There’s a crowd ahead.”
His truck was in the lead because it offered a farther view, so he saw them first.
Ahead was the entrance to a city. They had planned to bypass the city, but unexpectedly encountered people there. They were far enough away not to be blocking the road or specifically targeting them.
Thus, Lu Ruisheng spoke into the walkie-talkie, “There’s a fork in the road ahead, let’s change our route. Avoid confrontation.”
That was what Guo Gang also thought. He said, “That’s what I was thinking,” and then he turned, taking another road. Though it was a longer detour, it was safer.
These people were part of a gang controlling the city, out hunting today. With the weather cleared, they naturally sought food, spending the last few days hunting in nearby mountains. Although good ga was scarce, there were plenty of rats, snakes, and fish from a nearby lake—all delicacies for people who hadn’t had much to eat for a long ti. As for mutations, in their minds, having sothing to eat was enough, and mutating might even help them live longer.
At that mont, they also noticed Gu Pan’s group. The mbers of the opposing group were all on motorcycles, unsure of how many were in Gu Pan’s group or what weapons they had, so they hesitated to act rashly. However, they were tempted, so two n on motorcycles followed at a distance while two others went back for reinforcents.
Lu Ruisheng allowed Gu Pan to drive while he climbed to the roof of the car and used binoculars to watch the movents of the distant group. There were many of them, and so were ard.
He commanded through the walkie-talkie, “The other side discovered us by chance and has gone for reinforcents. We need to quickly shake off the two motorcycles behind and leave this place.”
Guo Gang responded, “Roger that,” and he sped up.
But their two trucks limited their speed.
Lu Ruisheng continued, “We have to get rid of the tail first, otherwise we’ll face a tough battle. There are too many of them, and we are not at an advantage.”
Cheng Yang said, “Lanlan and I will go.”
Guo Gang also said, “I’ll go with them. I have more experience.”
Gu Pan said, “There are motorcycles in the truck. Go ahead.”
They parked by the roadside. After Guo Gang, Cheng Yang, and Fang Lanlan made their preparations, they rode out on the motorcycles to confront the followers.
They changed their route again and left signs along the way that they could understand.
The three experts were more than a match for the two scouts following them and quickly dealt with the duo, then rode their motorcycles back.
Once regrouped, they quickly left the area.
A battle was avoided, but it was still a heart-stopping experience.
It wasn’t that they were unprepared for combat, but this type of engagent, on enemy territory with a likely nurical disadvantage, was sothing they tried to avoid as much as possible because the fight wasn’t worth it.
An hour later, they parked by the roadside, safe at last.
Everyone got out of the vehicles to stretch and relax after being on high alert. Gu Pan pulled out a large jug of juice and shared it with everyone.
Chen Shaonan said, “It’s been a long ti since we fought. Suddenly, I sort of looked forward to it.”
Feng Zhekai laughed, “Don’t worry, we’re out for a long ti this trip, we’ll probably encounter more battles.”
Lu Ruisheng felt the sa way, “Indeed, so we must always be ready to engage in battle.”
Cheng Yang was still thrilled from the recent scuffle, “Just two people ca up, and it was over too quickly, not satisfying at all.”
Guo Gang slapped Cheng Yang on the back, “Next ti don’t rush into combat so quickly. What if the opponent is also a military veteran with more experience?”
Cheng Yang scratched his head, “Brother Guo is right to criticize. I was indeed a bit arrogant. I’ll definitely correct it.”
Seeing Cheng Yang’s humble response, Guo Gang also smiled, “It’s good to have youthful energy, but safety cos first.”
“I know, Brother Guo has my best interests at heart. I’ll be careful from now on,” Cheng Yang was a reasonable person.
Guo Gang reflected on the two opponents from earlier, “Those two were skilled—probably trained. It seems the survivors in this city are quite strong. It’s good that we didn’t engage.”
Gu Pan also felt lucky, “We’re lucky when we’re all together like this.”
Chen Lang agreed enthusiastically, “Exactly, sister is absolutely right, when we’re together, we’re invincible.”
Duan Shui tapped Cheng Lang on the head, “Behave.”
Everyone laughed, looking at Chen Lang who seed like a quail.
After resting for a while, they continued on their journey.
As they neared the next city, they grew more cautious. Though taking a detour, there were still towns around, and they weren’t certain of their safety, so caution was paramount.
However, the journey proceeded smoothly without encountering anyone. They continued forward, also keeping an eye out for possible resources in the vicinity.
There weren’t significant targets along the road. The equipnt in the small factories was of no use to their base and had little value to them, but Gu Pan still picked out so decent items to keep, considering they might disappear in the future.
At a atball processing factory, everyone reminisced about hotpot, for which atballs were a perfect addition.
Talking about it, they all suddenly wanted to take the atball-making machine.
Gu Pan sized it up, “Why don’t we take it? As food becos scarcer, maybe the base will need to make so nutritional atballs as supplies.”
Upon hearing this, everyone thought it made sense.
Lu Ruisheng also said, “The base’s food supply won’t last three months. So, in the future, sothing will need to replace regular food. dicine hasn’t been developed yet, so we really might need to prepare so sort of food with veggies and algae-based atballs to stave off hunger.”
Fang Lanlan, knowledgeable in this area, added, “The developnt of dicine has encountered a bottleneck, it’s hard to break through. Having atballs to eat in the future would be good…”
She didn’t finish her sentence, but everyone understood. Maybe one day there would be nothing left to eat.
