Chapter 305: Chapter 305: Rescue Guo Gang and His Daughter
Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng bid farewell to Gu Ci and left.
Wang Youcai was sitting on a bench outside the door. Seeing the two co out, he approached them, “How did it go?”
Gu Pan said, “We’ve co to an agreent. We’re going out to fetch so things and will be back within an hour.”
Wang Youcai nodded, “Okay, I’ll wait here for you.”
Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng acknowledged and left together.
In fact, everything was in the Space, but they had to put on a show. So, they drove to a place farther away, sat for a while, then took out twenty quail Breeding Eggs and a hatching machine, and returned to the entrance of the Underground Entertainnt City.
The guard at the door recognized them and directly called soone to lead them in.
Back at Gu Ci’s office, Wang Youcai was not there. Gu Ci ntioned that Wang Youcai had gone to tell fortunes for soone and told them not to worry about him, as soone would naturally send him back.
Since Wang Youcai was very familiar with this place, they didn’t need to worry.
Lu Ruisheng placed the incubator on the table, “We want to see the person.”
The eggs were in Gu Pan’s arms, but she opened the bag wide enough for Gu Ci to see the contents inside without handing them directly to him.
These items were fragile, and the other side, seeing them, would not dare to have any bad thoughts, because if a fight broke out and the eggs fell to the ground, everything would be lost.
Gu Ci called out to the door, “Bring the person in.”
The door opened, and Guo Gang led ng ng in. He didn’t know what was happening, only that soone had unlocked his chains and brought him and his daughter here. His heart was hanging by a thread, unsure of what they faced.
However, after entering, he was stunned to see familiar faces. He stood frozen, staring, unable to move, because it was so unexpected, like an illusion.
ng ng saw Gu Pan and wanted to run over to hug her, “Auntie.”
Gu Ci, frightened, pulled ng ng back.
ng ng wanted to cry, but she held it back. She didn’t understand the situation fully, but she knew she couldn’t cry easily. Crying was useless and might even cause trouble for her father.
Seeing his child being grabbed, Guo Gang, unbound, impulsively wanted to rush over.
Lu Ruisheng quickly intercepted him, “Calm down, Brother Guo. He’s not trying to hurt ng ng. Panpan has sothing fragile in her hands, he’s just protecting the item.”
Guo Gang then cald down.
Gu Pan handed the eggs she was cradling to Gu Ci, then squatted down to embrace ng ng, “It’s alright, Auntie will take you ho.”
ng ng finally hugged Gu Pan, burying herself in her embrace and whispered sobs.
Gu Pan touched ng ng, who was skin and bones with straw-like hair, and felt genuinely distressed, “It’s okay, things will get better soon.”
She finished speaking and pulled out a lollipop from her pocket, “Look what this is. Isn’t it ng ng’s favorite?”
ng ng shook her head, not taking the candy, only holding onto Gu Pan. Right now, she didn’t want to eat anything; she only wanted to leave this place with her dad.
Gu Pan knew she feared being taken back again. She held ng ng’s hand and made a pinky promise, “Auntie assures you, I won’t leave you behind.”
Lu Ruisheng patted Guo Gang on the back, comforting him, “We’ve negotiated with them; we can leave soon.”
Guo Gang’s eyes reddened. He hadn’t expected to be rescued, nor had he thought Lu Ruisheng would be able to find him here.
Seeing Gu Pan comforting ng ng, he knew that was genuine care for ng ng. He couldn’t hold back his tears anymore. He hadn’t cried when he was beaten nearly to death, but now he couldn’t control himself. He covered his face, trying to suppress his sobs.
Gu Ci was a businessman, naturally cold-hearted, and even more so after growing accustod to the apocalypse, he was hardly shaken by anything.
After examining the eggs, he called out to the door, “Xiao Chen, bring the verifier in.”
Gu Ci’s secretary led a couple in their fifties into the room.
They also knew what they were there for and quickly approached Gu Ci.
Gu Ci carefully placed the fertilized egg on the coffee table. He couldn’t keep holding it; dropping it by accident would be disastrous.
Then, he said to the couple, “Take a look at this, are these fertilized eggs?”
The couple took a flashlight and walked over, picking up the eggs cautiously to check.
Guo Gang seed to realize that Lu Ruisheng and the others were using the fertilized eggs to trade for his release, he knew how precious they were. His heart ward, and tears fell once again.
But he didn’t speak at that mont, nor did he interrupt; it was not the right ti to say anything.
After the couple had checked each egg, the woman said to Gu Ci, “Boss, they are indeed all fertilized eggs.”
Gu Ci’s expression relaxed, and a trace of a smile appeared, “Good, you two will follow the entire hatching process.”
The couple, of course, couldn’t have wished for anything better. This job was easier and garnered more attention; they quickly agreed.
Then, Gu Ci spoke to Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng, “These items are precious, so I assu none of us wants to waste them. I’d like you to co over every three days to oversee the hatching process. My staff are not young, and probably not as familiar with incubators as you are. Frequent visits from you would put everyone at ease.”
Lu Ruisheng stepped up to Gu Ci, “Alright, we also hope not to waste such rare resources.”
Gu Ci did not make things more difficult, “Then co over early tomorrow morning. We will have a place ready for you to oversee the hatching.”
Because they were so valuable, he also wanted to choose the right place.
Lu Ruisheng agreed, “Okay.”
After everything was settled, Gu Pan and the others bid farewell to Gu Ci, and soone escorted the four of them out of the Underground City.
Since Wang Youcai had matters to attend to and couldn’t say goodbye in person, they kept his kindness in their hearts. As for helping with the Daoist Temple, without these developnts, Gu Pan would have lent a hand anyway. Daoism is part of Huaxia’s heritage, and though not of paramount importance, she was willing to help it continue. After the apocalypse, if it were to truly disappear, it would be a loss for humanity. So when she had ti, she planned to visit Wang Youcai again.
After they erged and saw the sun in the sky, Guo Gang shielded his forehead and looked up, “It’s been so long since I’ve seen sunlight like this.”
ng ng clung to Gu Pan’s hand, refusing to let go. With no other choice, Lu Ruisheng drove, Guo Gang sat in the passenger seat, and Gu Pan and ng ng sat in the back.
Since it was quite close, they didn’t ask Guo Gang how he had gotten there at that mont; instead, they first arrived at the entrance and went through the formalities.
The procedures were familiar and the staff recognized them, so they finished quickly, and they drove into the base.
ng ng curiously looked out the window. People on the street walked so freely, without fighting or robbing – it was like before the apocalypse.
Gu Pan stroked ng ng’s head, “ng ng, do you see? The base is peaceful. No one here will rob or kill you, and you can co out to play without fear of threats.”
ng ng’s large eyes looked at Gu Pan, “Auntie, as long as I see you, I know everything will be alright.”
Gu Pan smiled, “Auntie is very happy to see ng ng too. Tonight, I’ll make you sothing delicious.”
