Using the chance Sam decided to observe those Monsters. If possible he wanted to see what kind of spiritual energy those Monsters are using.
Before that Sam also informs Natalia to inform the supre commander to get inside the barrier. Well, Sam can see the supre commander is seriously injured but he is trying to kill those shadow Monsters.

If they are not wrong, then so kind of barrier is also present in that place that is also protecting those buildings. But when they ca close to the mansion they could already see the destruction in that surrounding area.

None of those attacks from those elders. But naturally, those elders did not stop there and continuously attacked those Monsters. At any condition, they wanted to destroy those Monsters.
Finally, it looks like those Monsters begin to get affected. Even though those Monsters transferred and most of the attacks from those elders also got passed through their bodies, those Monsters really underestimated the power of those elders.
