Chapter 331: King Of The Hill

When his nephew had been CEO, the door to his office had simply read, CEO, just three letters. A clear indicator that the person behind the door did not treat the job with the respect that it needed.

Since moving into the office, Sebastian had had the door changed. It now read Chief Executive Officer Sebastian Haven. There was no missing the words and mistaking his office for soone else’s. Plus there would no longer be any need for anybody to ask who the CEO was.

He had finally made it to the top and everyone should know. The journey to the top had been a treacherous one. After being passed over in favour of his brother and then watching as his twin’s wife took over. Years later the witch’s departure from the position had left him very little to celebrate.

He had been forced to watch his nephew beco CEO. Were Sebastian anyone else. He would have long given up hope. He would have doubted that what was rightfully his would ever be in his possession. But Sebastian was not a weak-willed simpleton like the majority of humanity.

He had known that what it would take to get what he wanted was patience. That he just had to sit back and bide his ti, and eventually things would fall into place for him, and they had. There had been no other outco for him after all.

Sebastian had been born for the role of CEO and not only that he had earned it. Doing things that would have had most people quivering in their boots. Unable to go through with what was needed. But Sebastian had never wavered. He had simply done what needed doing and then he had waited. Now the wait was finally over.

Were he the fool that he had often pretended to be, Sebastian would have been celebrating, partying night after night, enjoying his success. But contrary to popular belief, Sebastian Haven was not an idiot.

The ti when a person was at their most vulnerable was when they finally got their hands on sothing that they had been wanting for a long ti. Because in that mont many people often made the mistake of letting their guard down.

All of their focus on the prize that they had finally acquired. But Sebastian was not one of those people. Now that he had what he had always desired. He was going to make sure that he kept it. And to do that, he would defend it with everything in him. Whether it took biting, kicking, backstabbing, poisoning...Whatever it was that was needed to keep his title, then he would do it.

So would call it paranoia.

Comparing Sebastian to the monarchs of old. People who had gotten their power. Through lying, cheating and stealing, and who in turn were always terrified that they would be lied to, cheated and stolen from. But that was not the case at all. Sebastian was just being vigilant.

And his first order of business once he had signed on the dotted line and made things official, had been to put a tail on his nephew. So long as Derek was in the city. Sebastian would have people on him making sure that his nephew did not suddenly change his mind about quitting, and start plotting to overthrow Sebastian.

When he had gotten pictures of his nephew boarding his private jet and leaving the city, Sebastian had breathed a sigh of relief. His nephew’s absence had ant that he could focus most of his attention on shaking up Haven Group.

Now that he was the one in charge, Sebastian could admit that Haven Group had not been doing too badly under the leadership of his nephew. That said, even though Haven Group had been doing well, it could have done better.

In order for that to happen, his nephew would have had to be a bit more flexible. Sothing that he was incapable of. Luckily Sebastian was now there to rectify that. What was breaking a few laws here and there, if it ant that profit went up four hundred percent?

So to get a few deals going, and have so projects green lighted in Haven Group’s favour. Sebastian shook hands under the table, and promised to share future contracts with like-minded people who did not care how the money was made. Just that more of it was being churned out.

Money was money and it could be spent anywhere. If people happened to get hurt or die standing in the way of profit, then that was their problem. And when it ca to people, Sebastian had also been focusing on the workers of Haven Group.

Weeding out the weak and leaving only the strong. The n and won who could not take a bit of harmless teasing, and a few gentle pats here and there, had been the first to go. Haven Group was headed for bigger and better.

He did not need crybabies who ran to the police just because soone comnted on their cleavage. In addition to getting rid of the crybabies, Sebastian also upped the pressure in every single departnt. Firing people took too long, so he decided to make them quit and save himself the effort.

Watching all of the leeches who used to suck up to Derek flee was imnsely satisfying. But he had to admit the one part of his ascension that he had not liked had been having to get rid of Lucas.

But it had been a necessary sacrifice, a show of power. Sebastian’s silent warning to everyone else. If I can do this to soone who has been my PA for so long, imagine what I can do to you.

After that, Sebastian had expected to have a quiet day. But then the PA of the head of HR had co in to tell him that they no longer had a head of HR, and Sebastian was sad on that front.

He’d thought that the lovely Padma was made of sturdier stuff, but clearly he’d been wrong. After shooing the PA away, Sebastian sat in his chair, staring up at the ceiling as he tried to think of a way forward.

A way to use the head of HR quitting to his advantage. But his thoughts were put on pause when his phone vibrated.

’Your nephew is back. These were taken last night’ The ssage read and Sebastian let out a sigh.

He had really hoped that Derek would be gone for a much longer ti. Looking at the first picture of his nephew, Sebastian could not help but snarl. If Derek knew what was good for him, he would keep his distance and not try to look into Haven Group at all. His ti had passed.

It was Sebastian’s era now. Going to the second picture of his nephew, Sebastian looked at it, his brow furrowed, as he tried to place where he had seen the woman holding hands with his nephew before. Ah, this was that Amanda. Emilie? Alia. No, it was Amanda.

Yes, it was definitely Amanda, Derek’s little creature, he realised. Smirking as he stared at his nephew’s forr PA. In the next picture, it was not just Derek and Amanda. His mother was there as well.

Sebastian’s mood soured. Why on earth was he looking at a picture with three people that just made him want to throw up whenever he saw them? With a sigh, Sebastian contemplated just deleting everything without viewing the other pictures. But he decided not to. He scrolled through all of them and was just about to pass over one particular picture when he stopped. Instead of three people there were four. Derek’s creature, Derek and his venomous snake of a mother, Cassandra. But next to Cassandra there was soone else. You see, Sebastian would be the first to admit that he was not good with won’s faces and their nas.

The only woman that he could reliably say he knew was his sister-in-law. And that was only because he hated her with a passion. Which was why, as Sebastian looked over at the picture of the woman next to Cassandra, he knew that whoever she was.

He counted her as soone important because instead of just passing the picture by, he stalled on it, staring and staring until a mory finally ca to him. And Sebastian dropped his phone, montarily overco by panic.

No way. It could not be. Sebastian knew the woman in the picture and he also knew her na. That was Jane. Jane Molson. Wait wasn’t the surna of Derek’s creature Molson?

Jane Molson, Cassandra Haven, Derek Haven, and Amanda Molson.

When you make it to the top, everyone will be trying to knock you down. Sebastian’d heard once, and now he finally understood it. He had not seen Jane Molson in decades, and now that he was finally CEO, there she was.

Staring at the picture of the four.

Sebastian’s hand clenched into a fist. It had been many years since Sebastian had seen Cassandra Haven and Jane Molson together. Now that he finally had everything he had ever wanted, they were suddenly out and about again.

It could not be a coincidence.
