Chapter 244: Who Is He?
When it ca to having children, there were a few things that were never discussed but were accepted as a universal truth. One of those things was that no one ever really stopped being a parent.
You could be a hundred with a sixty year old and they would still need you in so shape or form. No matter their age, your child was still your child. Whether they beca a banker or a bank robber, a soldier, a serial killer, a doctor, a vet, a black market quack. Or even decided to sell pictures of their toes online, that did not matter.
What mattered was that parental love, real parental love, stayed consistent no matter what. That had been sothing that Jane Molson had been told for years. And when she had been pregnant expecting Emily, she rembered sobody telling her that parenthood altered a person because it was one of the most fulfilling experiences on earth.
Jane had no idea who had told her that. But what she did know was that they had been absolutely right in that observation. Before becoming a mother, Jane had gone through life not knowing that Emily had been missing from it.
But the mont that she had held her little girl in her arms. She had wondered how she had ever thought herself complete without her daughter in her life. But despite the fact that having her daughter had helped fill a hole that Jane had not even been aware existed.
There was sothing else that had not been ntioned when it ca to being a parent.
The stress levels were through the roof.
In every single stage in their children’s lives, even way before they were born. Parents were always stressing over sothing about their kids. Before birth, it was whether or not they would be born healthy. After birth, it was keeping them healthy and safe. Those were the consistent worries that every parent had.
Every single parent on planet earth wanted their child happy, healthy, and safe. Those were the three main concerns. With those fulfilled most parents could allow themselves to relax a bit. But the worry never really went away.
Every ti there was a new situation, a new developnt in the child’s life, parental worry always kicked up a notch. As soone who had been in the parenting ga for several decades, Jane Molson knew all of this.
But she also knew that she was very lucky in having Emily as her only child. Her daughter had never been troubleso. So Jane had to contend with just worrying a normal amount. Never having to be one of those parents who spent nights awake.
Worried about the whereabouts of their wild child who was out in the middle of the night. Having the ti of their lives, unaware of the dangers that the world posed.
But now it seed that karma had finally co to collect, and Jane Molson was paying for all of the peace that she had enjoyed while other people’s parents were nearly pulling their hair out with the stress that ca from worrying about their children too much.
It had started when Emily had begun going out, and not coming back, four nights out of the week.
All under the guise of doing work. Jane had let it be. Her daughter was a grown woman after all. She could do whatever she wanted, when she wanted.
But what Jane had not accounted for was that, whatever little arrangent that Emily had going on out there. It would turn into sothing real. Sothing with actual emotions involved.
But then she had begun noticing sothing. That sothing being that, whenever Emily ca back,
from wherever it was that she spent four nights out of the week. From the soone that had her slling of expensive shampoo and cologne, she seed...lighter.
She smiled more, laughed more. And slowly but surely, the dark circles under her eyes had slowly been fading away until at so point. Jane had realized that they were completely gone.
Her daughter’s nearly constant good mood, the dark circles under her eyes fading. Those were all good things, wonderful things that should be celebrated. And Jane was very happy.
What mother wouldn’t be happy to see her child doing well. But even though Emily had been doing well, much better than Jane had seen her in a while. Every ti that she had seen a smile stretch across her daughter’s face.
Sotis Emily even stopping mid-sentence and just staring off into the distance, her mouth pulling up slightly, clearly lost in thought...rembering. Her focus clearly on whoever it was that she went to see, from Thursday to Sunday night.
’Young love,’ Jane thought as she looked at her daughter. Every ti she saw her daughter staring off into the distance, her eyes soft. But instead of thinking young love and feeling elated, dread pulled in Jane Molson’s stomach.
If she had ever t the guy, then maybe she would have been more at ease. She would know who exactly it was that had her daughter looking as though the world were made of sunshine and rainbows. But Jane had no idea who was on the other side, receiving all of Emily’s affections.
She had no face, she had no na. She did not even have a hair color, or an eye color to match. The guy could be a John or a Vincent, a Henry, a Larry, an Edward. She knew absolutely nothing and that terrified her.
The only things that Jane knew were the things that she had been able to pick up on by herself. And even though Emily had admitted that she was seeing soone. She was still being tight-lipped about it. Barely sharing any details with her mother other than the fact that she was happy with the man that she was with. The only things that Jane knew was that whoever it was. They had money, and they had power.
Not only that, they had managed to make her daughter fall hard and fast. If to the man, the relationship that Jane’s daughter so clearly cherished
was nothing more than a ga. Then they would be hell to pay.
Money... power...it would not matter. To protect her daughter, Jane would do anything. Even if she had no idea exactly what it is she would be doing if Emily were hurt. Whoever the man was, he had better have good intentions.
Not for the first ti, Jane wished that her husband was still alive. It would have been easier if she had soone else to talk to about the matter. But being that it was just her, all she could do was wait and think, hoping for the best, for Emily’s sake.
