A resilient net of red tracer bullet trails was woven in the sky, the deafening sound of firearms and explosions continuously intercepting the fearless waves of monsters.

Blades swirled like wheels, their sharpness intense and swift as lightning. The invisible Sword Qi, cutting through like butter, danced relentlessly, splattering bizarrely colored juices, flesh, and bones everywhere. At critical monts, it struck precisely, swiftly slaying each monstrous giant that had broken through the firepower web.

The fierce assault, as swift as it was, subsided just as quickly, leaving behind a field of corpses.

Blood soaked the sand, pooling in low-lying areas.

In the distance, relentless monsters continued their prowls, clearly unwilling to let the trapped humans go.

This was a battle of life and death, with no room for compromise.

"Section Chief Mouri, we made contact, we've made contact!"

The Sword Qi dispersed. A young woman, clad in light armor and breathless, turned around in surprise.

What seed like a certain death trap had unexpectedly presented a glimr of hope.

Mouri Misono remained silent for a few seconds, exhaled deeply to steady herself, and asked the ecstatic ssenger, "Did the Marin Kai grow a conscience, or did the Poer People decide to send support?"

One was notoriously weak at battle, the other unreliable. It was astonishing to think they'd send aid to military contractors stranded in the desert.

Or had both governnts been overthrown, with new leaders rapidly trying to make a positive impression?

Even if they wanted to help, could they? It was never a matter of willingness but capability. No one expected any support from them; even the governnts knew it was hopeless, thus their blatant inaction.

Looking out at the dunes, monsters were still swarming, drawn by so uncanny sense to their position, launching wave after wave of attacks.

The ssenger hurriedly added, "Neither! The Blue Star Global United Defense Committee's observation group visiting Marin Kai Sovereignty has responded to our distress call."

"Observation group?"

Mouri Misono had never heard of this suddenly appearing observation group.

The military contractors for Aircrew Base 223 were from Fuji Security Group. They had evacuated all employees the mont the situation spun out of control.

Abandoning the base was a small loss compared to the massive compensation for losing everyone. Beyond insurance payouts, the employer also had to pay substantial death benefits.

Military contracting is life-risking work. Money motivates bravery; pay too little, and no one will risk their life. This principle holds worldwide.

Shortly after the evacuation transport planes left Aircrew Base 223, they were attacked. The pilot team did everything they could and, by Amaterasu Omikami's grace, managed a safe crash landing. Still, they were imdiately surrounded by countless monsters, trapping the crew in a desperate situation.

The escorting "Big Mouth Monster" turboprop aircraft units exhausted most of their ammo, then had to continue covering the other two transport planes' retreat, leaving the downed crew to fend for themselves.

Fortunately, they had the foresight to carry so firearms and ammo on board. Along with a few capable Ability Users, they barely managed to keep the hundred-plus people safe for the ti being.

As ti passed, night began to fall, and their isolated position foreshadowed a grim fate of running out of ammo and food, leading to their ultimate demise.

The employee who reported the news to Mouri Misono explained, "The Joint Defense Committee is taking over handling that Black Cloud. They arrived at Aircrew Base 223 and received our distress signal."

"How long until they get here?"

Mouri Misono's main concern was that they might not hold out until dark.

Once night fell, all beasts would instinctively go mad, likely turning into an unending beast wave. With their few numbers, they wouldn't leave a trace within monts.

The employee affird, "Within ten minutes!"

Before sharing the good news, he had already checked.

"Alright! We'll hold on for ten more minutes!"

Mouri Misono raised her straight sword high and shouted to everyone, "Comrades! Reinforcents are coming, let's fight to et them!"

"Ban sai!" "Ban sai!" "Ban sai!" "Urrah!~" "Ban sai!" ...

It seed sothing strange had slipped in.

But the only certainty was that these exhausted survivors' spirits reignited.

This petite Section Chief was a different person before and after she drew her sword.

"Monsters are coming again!"

The sentry yelled hysterically.

"Mama! Godzilla is here!"

"No way, seriously?!"

"The end is nigh!"

In the monster horde erged a mountain-like figure, with spiked ridges extending from its forehead to its tail like an ancient tyrannosaurus. It roared deafeningly, even without any intelligence, its primal savagery and bloodthirsty nature stirring deep fear.

Monster "Godzilla" was legendary, its na known since childhood by many. Countless remakes of the films led to it becoming a cultural trope.

Seeing a real one suddenly, many were paralyzed with fear.

Even die-hard "Godzilla" collectors' legs trembled uncontrollably.

Ye Long loved dragons, but only collectibles—not real ones.

"I'll take care of it!"

As the only War Professional on site, with Wind Series Eighth Rank power, Mouri Misono emitted a blazing Battle Qi Fla. Both her long and short swords glinted again.

She opted to attack proactively.

The long and short swords danced in a specific pattern, blending seamlessly with her movents, unleashing a fierce and lethal cutting force. Flesh flew as she aid straight at the gigantic monster resembling "Godzilla."

To protect her colleagues, Mouri Misono fought with all her might, holding nothing back.

Just like earlier, the intense gunfire and explosions once more stalled the monsters' advance.

A resounding scream broke out—soone got bitten, their body brutally severed in two. Their desperate cries lasted only two seconds before blood loss silenced them.

The monster was imdiately focus-fired, drenching in its own fluids before collapsing.

Such tactical sacrifices were inevitable, and every employee was ntally prepared. "Birds fly high, n don't live forever."

Engaged with "Godzilla," Mouri Misono couldn't aid them, biting her lip as she continued her attack, aiming to finish it and return quickly.

If that mountain-like beast got close, no one would survive.

A hundred ters, fifty, thirty—within sight!

Boom!~

The sand exploded like an artillery strike. The incoming sandstorm made her Battle Qi Fla waver, even pressuring Mouri Misono, who was enclosed in it.

From distance, it looked like a mountain; up close, it broke the horizon. "Godzilla" was terrifying, even a high imitation held formidable power.

Mouri Misono dodged its giant foot that blotted out the sky, slashing her shimring blades at its leg, revealing deep, steel-cable-like muscles, black liquid gushing out.

This thing was too massive!

Her three-foot blade couldn't pierce its body, causing minimal damage.

"Godzilla"-like monster, despite its size, moved quickly, spanning ten ters in one step, closing in on the humans.

"Again!"

Mouri Misono called out, reactivating her ultimate move "Unlimited Ripping Slash."

Cutting its whole body was less effective than severing one leg. Her swords rotated like saw blades, embedded deep in the gigantic leg thick enough to need ten people to encircle.

Roaring painfully, the monster couldn't sustain its weight, faltering. Still, it pushed forward a step, intending to crush all the humans beneath it.

The world darkened. Realizing its intent, Mouri Misono, exhausted and powerless, scread a warning.

"Run!~"

Desolate dunes, monsters everywhere.

Run?

Where could they run?

Crushed by the mountainous beast or torn apart by others, the outco was the sa.

Gales roared. The death shadow enveloping them was overshadowed by another.

Crash!~

Sand surged, the mountain-like monster slamd down the dune, the shockwave sweeping sand everywhere.

Its scaly skin was re centiters from the nearest person, who narrowly escaped death but still wet themselves in fear.

No one laughed at him, instead, they collectively stared, dumbfounded, at the figure perched atop the fallen beast…

Or was it a more terrifying "monster"?
