A sudden fire ignited in Ethan Yardley’s chest.
He pressed his lips into a thin line, his cold gaze fixed on the woman in front of him who seed determined to make a scene.
"Serena Yardley, is this your way of telling you don’t want to sleep with anymore?"
He was trying his best to suppress his temper.
Serena Yardley t his gaze defiantly. "You can sleep with , sure. Just kick that woman out."
Ethan Yardley was speechless.
’It seems I’m truly helpless against her. She’s just dead set on making an issue out of Sylvia Schuyler.’
But he owed Sylvia. How could he possibly kick her out against her will?
Getting up, Ethan Yardley stood by the bed, gazing at Serena Yardley with a piercing stare.
"Fine, I’ll leave. And don’t expect to ever set foot in here again."
Ethan Yardley was furious. The slam of the door as he left made Serena Yardley’s whole body tremble.
Her lacerated heart ached, feeling as if it were dripping blood.
She fought back tears, crawled back under the covers, and forced herself to sleep.
「The next day.」
「At breakfast.」
It was still just Ethan Yardley and Sylvia Schuyler at the dining table.
The thought that Serena Yardley and Ethan Yardley had fought last night filled Sylvia Schuyler with imnse satisfaction.
She opened her mouth to speak to the man across from her. "Ethan, I..."
"You have a follow-up appointnt at the hospital today. I’ll have Mrs. Miller go with you in a bit."
Ethan Yardley cut her off. "You’ll stay at the hospital for a couple of days after. I have sothing to take care of. I’ll pick you up when I’m done."
The color instantly drained from Sylvia Schuyler’s face.
She asked, bewildered, "What do you have to do? Can’t you co with ?"
"No. But don’t worry, my people are very ticulous. Just tell them whatever you need."
Sylvia Schuyler was at a loss for words.
’Is he sending back to the hospital because he wants to get rid of again?’
’Impossible. Now that I’m back, I have no intention of letting this man cast aside again.’
If she had to, she would go to the Yardley Family’s old estate and refuse to leave.
After finishing his al, Ethan Yardley looked at Mrs. Miller. "Any problem with what I asked you to do?"
Mrs. Miller nodded. "Rest assured, sir. I will take good care of Miss Schuyler."
"Good. Then take her now."
Mrs. Miller hurried to Sylvia Schuyler’s side, who had also finished her breakfast, and offered an arm to help her up. "Let’s go, Miss Schuyler. I’ll take you to the hospital."
Sylvia Schuyler didn’t want to leave, but she didn’t dare look at Ethan Yardley.
In the end, she was stiffly escorted out of the villa by Mrs. Miller.
Only after watching them leave did Ethan Yardley get up and head upstairs.
He stood at the master bedroom door and knocked. After knocking for a long ti with no response, he finally pushed the door open.
When he saw the empty bed, with Serena nowhere in sight, a flicker of panic went through him.
He pulled out his phone to call her.
By this ti, Serena Yardley had already taken a taxi to the Yardley family’s old estate. She got out of the car before answering the call.
From the phone ca the man’s icy voice:
"Serena Yardley, didn’t I tell you yesterday we were going to the old estate today? Where did you run off to?"
Serena retorted defiantly, "None of your business."
"Think I can’t control you anymore? Itching for a spanking, are you? You have half an hour. Get back here, now."
"I’m not going back. If you have the guts, co over here and spank yourself."
Ethan Yardley gritted his teeth, enunciating each word. "Se-re-na Yar-dley!"
"Pfft~"
Blowing a raspberry into the phone, Serena Yardley hung up without a second thought and put her phone away, walking toward the main gate of Yardley Manor.
Ethan Yardley stared at the disconnected call. Hearing the mory of Serena’s smug taunt, he was both furious and exasperated by her childishness.
But the thought of his grandfather’s birthday today made him realize he had to bring Serena back, no matter what. Left with no choice, he dialed his assistant’s number and ordered coldly:
"Go. Find out where Serena is. I want her found and brought back here within half an hour."
"Yes, sir."
...
This was Serena Yardley’s second ti at Yardley Manor.
The first ti was the day after she and her uncle had gotten their marriage license, when he had brought her ho to et his family.
She hadn’t been back since.
Half a year had passed in the blink of an eye. If it weren’t for her grandfather-in-law’s birthday today, she probably wouldn’t have co.
She figured the security guards at Yardley Manor wouldn’t rember her. As Serena Yardley, holding a gift box, was about to ask a guard to open the gate, he spotted her and hurried out of his booth, bowing deeply.
"Good day, Young Madam. Welco ho, Young Madam."
He imdiately pressed a button on a remote, and the large, ornate iron gate slid open from both sides.
Serena Yardley was a little taken aback.
’So the security guard at the gate does recognize .’
She smiled, thanked the guard, and hurried inside with her gift.
The guard returned to his booth, made a call on the intercom, and resud his post.
Serena Yardley knew the Yardley Family was the richest in the country, but she had only been to Yardley Manor once before. At the ti, she had been shocked by how the castle-like mansion was as beautiful as sothing out of a fairy tale.
Seeing it again today, she was still in awe.
There was still so distance to cover from the entrance to the main doors of the castle.
Serena Yardley walked at a leisurely pace, as the grounds of Yardley Manor were so exquisitely designed there was a new vista every ten steps.
But she hadn’t gone far when several servants ca pouring out of the castle in the distance, swarming directly toward her.
"The Young Madam is back!"
They shouted, scrambling over each other to reach Serena Yardley’s side. They quickly took her things and greeted her with smiles.
"Hello, Young Madam. Welco ho."
"Young Madam, you’re finally willing to co back."
"Young Madam, why don’t you live at ho with the Young Master? Why live outside?"
"Young Madam, are you alone? Where is the Young Master?"
Serena Yardley was speechless.
’I don’t recognize any of these people, so why do they all know ?’
Serena Yardley suddenly felt overwheld by their warmth, which was completely different from what she had imagined.
’I thought that when a Cinderella like walked into the Prince’s castle alone, I’d be t with ridicule and scorn from everyone.’
But judging by the servants’ expressions, their welco didn’t seem fake.
Before Serena Yardley could say a word, a little girl’s voice called out from a short distance away, "Wow! My niece-in-law really is here!"
Hearing the voice, Serena Yardley looked over and saw a girl of about ten, wearing an exquisite white dress with her hair in a bun, calling out to her excitedly.
Serena Yardley was completely baffled.
She then saw the little girl run toward her, grab her hand, and say, "Niece-in-law, co with . I’ll take you to see Dad."
Serena Yardley was still dazed. Following the girl, she asked, "What... what did you call ? Why haven’t I seen you here before?"
"Hehe, my mom and I just got back from overseas, so of course you haven’t seen . But I’ve seen pictures of you. You’re very pretty," the little girl said in a sweet voice.
Serena Yardley asked again, "Then... then you are..."
"I’m your grandfather-in-law’s sixth daughter, from the sa generation as your father-in-law. You have to call Sixth Madam."
Serena Yardley was speechless.
She had to call this ten-year-old girl "Madam"?
’Just how old was Grandpa-in-law when he had her?’
Serena Yardley couldn’t even begin to process it.
Still, she had no choice but to say politely, "Hello, Sixth Madam."
The words had barely left her mouth when another pleasant, lodious voice called out from not far ahead of them on the path to the main hall, "Raina Yardley, who do you have with you?"
At the sound, Serena Yardley turned her head to look.
When she saw the smiling man walking toward them, Serena Yardley suddenly froze, completely stunned.
