Ethan hadn’t expected Serena to call him.

For the past week, she hadn’t been answering his calls, nor was she willing to co ho.

’Could Nina Thorne have really convinced her to co back?’

But the thought of the shaful thing he’d done filled him with guilt. In a heavy voice, he asked, "Are you ho?"

"Yes."

"...I can’t co back tonight. You should... go hang out with Nina Thorne."

He couldn’t face her right now.

He needed ti to calm down, to get his head straight.

Serena Yardley sounded a little disappointed. "Okay, then. I’ll let you get back to work."

"Okay. Take care of yourself."

Ethan was the one who hung up.

Serena stared at the ended call on her screen, an unprompted ache spreading through her chest.

She had finally co back, finally worked up the nerve to call him, and yet... he wasn’t coming ho.

It was so disappointing.

Serena got up and went upstairs.

That night, she suffered from insomnia again.

When Ethan still hadn’t returned the next day, Mrs. Miller asked her during breakfast:

"Miss Serena, have you been able to contact Vivian? I believe the master arranged for her to be your companion, but I haven’t been able to reach her since last night."

Serena Yardley frowned.

’Didn’t Vivian Lynch leave her the night before last?’

Looking at Mrs. Miller, she shook her head. "I don’t have her number. We parted ways the day before yesterday."

Mrs. Miller grew worried. "Oh, is that so? I’ll ask her family later, then, and see if she’s gone ho."

Serena didn’t pay it much mind. After breakfast, she went next door to find Nina Thorne.

When Nina Thorne saw her, she asked with a smile, "So? Did you make up with him?"

The little boy also called out sweetly to her, "Good morning, Miss Serena!"

"Good morning, Leo."

Walking over, Serena sat down next to the child and looked at Nina Thorne. "He didn’t co ho yesterday, and he wasn’t back this morning either."

She had finally worked up the courage to reconcile with him, but he was nowhere to be seen.

Nina Thorne looked at Serena suspiciously and asked:

"Isn’t he at ho? Did he leave early in the morning? Did you call him? Why isn’t he coming ho?"

"I did. He said he was busy."

Nina Thorne couldn’t help but mutter, "That Ethan. No matter how busy he is, he should still co ho to his wife."

She stood up and called Ethan herself.

He answered, and she launched into an unprompted tirade:

"What the hell are you playing at? I helped you by getting her back ho, so what are you doing out and about instead of staying ho with her? Is work more important than your wife and child?"

’When she wasn’t back, he was moaning and groaning day after day.’

’Now that she’s back, he won’t even make ti for her.’

’Just wait until Serena goes back to school and doesn’t return. Let’s see him cry then.’

Nina Thorne reminded herself that this was the last ti she would help Ethan. If there was a next ti, she would absolutely not ddle in his affairs again.

"I know."

Ethan replied curtly and hung up.

No matter how guilty and miserable he felt, he had to bite the bullet and go back.

Nina put her phone away and sat down next to Serena again. "Serena, don’t overthink it. Ethan is usually busy with work, so just try to be a little more understanding."

Serena nodded. "Yes, I know."

"Then just wait a little longer. He’ll be back to keep you company soon."

Serena just nodded again.

’Actually, it wouldn’t matter if he didn’t co back because he was busy with work.’

’It was just that after listening to Nina, she’d figured a lot of things out and really wanted to talk to him face-to-face and clear the air.’

’From now on, they would live a good life together. She would never fight with him again.’

Just then, Mrs. Miller ca in through the villa’s entrance and called out to Serena, "Miss Serena, an elder has arrived at the house. You should go have a look."

Serena was curious. "Who is it?"

"I think it’s your mother-in-law. I don’t recognize her."

"Oh!"

Serena stood up and said to Nina Thorne, "Well, Nina, I’ll head over first. Goodbye, Leo."

"Goodbye, Miss Serena!"

...

Serena followed Mrs. Miller into the house and looked up to see a graceful and elegant woman sitting on the living room sofa.

She walked over and greeted her politely, "Mom."

Sophia Quinn smiled affectionately and took her hand. "It’s the weekend, and I was bored, so I thought I’d co see you two lovebirds. Were you out for a walk?"

"I was at Nina’s next door."

Serena sat down next to her mother-in-law, appearing very quiet and well-behaved.

Sophia Quinn frowned.

"Nina? Are you talking about that child from the Thorne Family? I heard she went abroad for a few years and ca back with a child. Is that true?"

"Yes."

"I heard the child belongs to the Grant Family. The fate between those two families really has been passed down through the generations."

Not particularly concerned with other people’s affairs, Sophia Quinn held Serena’s small hand and studied her as she asked:

"How have things been with Ethan lately? Have you persuaded him?"

For a mont, Serena couldn’t recall what she was supposed to have persuaded him about. She asked curiously, "What?"

"Oh, you silly child. You haven’t forgotten what I told you before, have you? Didn’t I tell you to work on him so you two can hurry up and have a baby?"
