After dinner, Ethan Yardley changed his clothes and prepared to go to the hospital.

Serena Yardley followed behind him and said in a low voice,

"Uncle, can I go with you? Don’t worry, I won’t show up in the hospital room. I’ll just wait for you at the door."

’I want to see for myself just how badly that woman is hurt.’

’She brought this on herself. She’s not afraid of getting burned playing with fire.’

Ethan Yardley turned to look at the woman before him and said in a deep voice,

"I might not be back tonight, so it’s useless for you to co. Just stay ho and get so rest."

"Are you going to stay with her all night?"

"..."

Ethan Yardley didn’t answer, but the look in his eyes as he gazed at Serena Yardley said it all.

In an instant, Serena Yardley felt a familiar ache spread through her chest.

But she didn’t cause a scene. After watching her uncle leave, she sat alone on the sofa in the vast, empty living room, her heart feeling as if it were being crushed by a giant stone.

「The Hospital.」

When Ethan Yardley arrived, Sylvia Schuyler was already awake.

She was sitting up in her hospital bed, having a hysterical fit at the nurses beside her.

"All of you, get away from ! Help turn on the lights! Why can’t I see anything? Why?"

Sylvia Schuyler was throwing things at the nurses, forcing them to dodge and back away.

Seeing the person who appeared at the door, the nurses quickly bowed their heads and called out,

"Mr. Yardley, you’re finally here. Miss Schuyler is very agitated and won’t let us get near her. We can’t change her dressing."

Ethan Yardley strode into the room.

Sylvia Schuyler, still on the bed, sensed soone approaching and started shrieking madly again,

"Get out! All of you, get out! Can soone tell why I can’t see anything? Why?"

She had assud that tumbling down the stairs would inevitably result in a broken arm or leg.

That way, she could cling to Ethan Yardley for the rest of her life, making him stay by her side at all tis.

She never expected that the fall would cause no major damage to her legs—just a fracture.

Instead, her eyes... she couldn’t see.

If she couldn’t see, how could she possibly compete with Serena Yardley?

If she couldn’t see, how could she run to Ethan Yardley and make him take responsibility for her?

At this mont, Sylvia Schuyler was filled with regret.

She regretted using such an extre thod to fra soone else. Now, the other person was fine, while she had received her just deserts.

"Sylvia..."

The man’s deep voice rang out.

Sylvia Schuyler snapped out of her daze. She quickly raised her hands, fumbling in the air as she cried out excitedly,

"Is that you, Ethan? Ethan, are you there?"

"It’s ."

Ethan Yardley moved closer to her.

Once her hands found Ethan Yardley, Sylvia Schuyler lunged forward in a panic, throwing her arms around him and crying,

"Ethan, what’s wrong with ? Why can’t I see anything?"

Ethan Yardley didn’t push her away. His voice remained low.

"The doctor said you’ve lost your sight, but it’s not permanent. You’ll get better."

"What?"

Sylvia Schuyler suddenly beca uncontrollable again, clinging to Ethan Yardley and crying as pitiably as she possibly could.

"Ethan, you have to help . After losing the chance to be a mother, I don’t want to lose the ability to even see your face.

Ethan, you have to get justice for . I just wanted to find Serena Yardley to have a good talk with her, to make peace.

I never expected her to get angry and push down the stairs.

Ethan, you hit with your car ten years ago, and I don’t bla you. But now I can’t see, and it’s Serena Yardley who did this to . You have to get justice for ."

She clung to his waist, sobbing her heart out.

Ethan Yardley stood ramrod straight by the bed, his expression unreadable.

He raised a hand to pull Sylvia Schuyler’s arms off him and said soothingly,

"I will get justice for you. First, you need to calm down and rest. The doctor said the blindness isn’t permanent. You will get better."

"But I can’t see anything right now! I’m so scared. Ethan, don’t leave . Don’t abandon ."

"Alright. I’ll stay with you."

Ethan Yardley knew he bore so responsibility, so he sat down next to Sylvia Schuyler, willing to spend ti with her.

Sylvia Schuyler nestled into his arms. Her sobs gradually subsided, but a sense of triumph grew in her heart.

’Actually, being blind isn’t so bad. It’s another way to keep this man by my side.’

She refused to believe that Ethan Yardley wouldn’t fall in love with her after spending so much ti with her.

...

「The Sovereign Villa.」

Serena Yardley couldn’t sleep all night.

Finally, at three in the morning, she called for a private car to take her to the hospital.

Once at the hospital, it only took a simple inquiry to find out which room Sylvia Schuyler was in.

Tiptoeing to the door of the hospital room and seeing the lights on inside, Serena Yardley gently pushed the door open and went in.

Passing the small entryway, she looked up and saw the man she longed for sitting on the sofa by the window, a laptop on his lap, still working.

On the hospital bed, Sylvia Schuyler appeared to be asleep.

Sensing soone had entered, Ethan Yardley looked up.

When he saw it was Serena Yardley, his sharp brows furrowed slightly. He set down his laptop and rose to walk toward her.

Before Serena Yardley could say a word, the man pushed her small fra out of the room.

Standing in the hallway, the man asked, sowhat displeased, "It’s the middle of the night. What are you doing here?"

Serena Yardley’s lips trembled as she said pitifully,

"I missed you so much I couldn’t sleep, so I ca to see you. Uncle, why are you staying with her? Where’s her family?"

"Her family is all abroad. She can’t see right now and might be hospitalized for one or two months, and I’ll have to stay with her for that whole ti."

’I already told this girl not to be unreasonable. Why did she have to run over here in the middle of the night?’

Serena Yardley was instantly upset again. "So for the next two months, you won’t be coming ho to sleep?"

"We’ll see."

Ethan Yardley glanced at his watch. It was almost four in the morning. He looked at the woman before him. "You ca here alone?"

"Mhm."

"Why didn’t you have the driver bring you? Don’t you know it’s not safe for a girl to be out alone this late at night?"

A warmth spread through Serena Yardley’s chest. She threw herself into his arms, tilting her head back to look up at him. "Uncle cares about too, right?"

Ethan Yardley didn’t answer. He avoided her gaze and pushed her away. "I’ll have Yannick Young take you ho."

As he spoke, he took out his phone to make a call.

Serena Yardley quickly grabbed his arm, shaking her head.

"I just missed you so much I couldn’t sleep. Just let hug you. I’ll call a car to go back after a little while. You don’t need to trouble your special assistant."

She carefully took his phone from his hand, stood on her tiptoes, and wrapped her small hands around his neck.

Ethan Yardley thought about how Sylvia Schuyler was asleep and probably wouldn’t wake up anyti soon.

He simply scooped Serena Yardley up, settling her on his hip, and walked toward the elevators.

He lectured her as they walked, "Don’t go out this late again."

"I know."

Serena Yardley was very docile. Resting her head on his shoulder, she greedily soaked in the imnse sense of security his presence gave her.

"Be obedient from now on. Don’t co to the hospital without my permission."

"Okay~"

"Be a good girl, and if Sylvia gets better, I’ll find so ti to take you on a trip."

’It’ll be compensation for the divorce I’m going to put her through.’

Serena Yardley replied obediently, "I know, Uncle. I’ll be very good from now on."

"Good."

He held her fragrant, soft little body as he hailed a taxi by the roadside and personally took her ho.
