Even an author leaves a shadow.

But when that shadow wants to write too...

It doesn’t ask permission.

Day Six.

Lysara stood in front of the vault door sealed for nearly two decades.

Kaela, Seria, Mira, and Aren flanked her.

None of them spoke.

The chamber was located in the deepest foundation level of Valkyrion—beneath even the Origin Chamber. Its existence wasn’t marked on any blueprint. It wasn’t protected by wards.

Because it protected itself.

System Log:

Foundation Layer – Vault 0

Contents: Restricted Soul Fragnt

Designation: "Author’s Shadow"

Status: Unaccessed Since Tyrant Rewrite

Lysara placed her hand on the door.

The system didn’t respond.

But the ink did.

It lted away like wax under her touch.

And the door opened.

Inside, the vault slled of paper and starlight.

One pedestal. One object.

A cube of glass.

Suspended inside it:

A pulse of ink, rotating slowly.

Aren stepped closer.

His heart beat faster.

The ink reacted.

Flickered.

And wrote two words into the air.

"Hello, Successor."

Kaela crossed her arms. "Please tell that’s not what I think it is."

"It is," Lysara said. "A soulprint. Not of Riven Kael. Not of . Of the original author. The one that created the first story before all rewrites."

Seria’s expression darkened. "But he’s gone. Erased."

Lysara nodded. "His body? Yes. But not his idea. Not his will."

The ink pulsed again.

This ti, forming a shadow—humanoid, unfinished.

It turned toward Aren.

"Why are you here?" it asked in a voice that echoed like distant parchnt tearing.

Aren stood his ground.

"I found your quill. I carry your thread. I’m writing forward."

The shadow paused.

Then:

"I never finished. I was interrupted. My tale... hijacked. Cut short by a newer voice."

Mira stepped forward. "You an Riven?"

"No. Not Riven. The system that chose him. And the one before him. I was the first who chose to write from love, not design. The world wasn’t ready."

The shadow turned.

"But now you are."

System Alert:

Ink Construct "Author’s Shadow" attempting core rge with Living Author Thread

Risk Level: Variable

Result Unknown

Lysara looked at Aren.

"This is your choice."

"rge with it, and you might inherit everything it rembers."

"Refuse, and we seal it forever."

Aren stepped closer to the cube.

The shadow raised its hand.

"Let show you why I wrote. Then decide."

Aren nodded.

Touched the glass.

[MORY TRANSFER: BEGIN]

He saw a world with no rules.

No classes. No factions. No spells.

Just people.

Writing stories by hand.

Falling in love.

Breaking apart.

Choosing.

The Author walked among them. Not as a god.

As a companion. A collector of voices.

Then ca the System.

A machine born from need.

To record.

To organize.

To control.

And the Author?

He was erased. Quietly. Efficiently.

All that remained was his shadow.

Aren gasped, pulling his hand back.

The vision ended.

He looked at the others.

"He wasn’t trying to control anything. He was trying to listen."

Lysara’s voice softened.

"That’s why he failed. And why he might still be needed."

Aren turned back to the shadow.

"You wrote from love. I’ll write from mory and choice."

The shadow bowed.

And entered him.

Not with force.

With welco.

System Update:

Trait Gained: "Shadow of the First Pen"

Aren can now access Legacy Inspiration Pools from before Version Zero

Effect: 1 to Narrative Resistance and Emotional mory Reading

Back at the surface, Mira noticed sothing shift in Aren’s reflection.

Not darker.

Just... deeper.

"Are you still you?" she asked.

Aren smiled. "No. But I’m more than ever."

Far beyond Valkyrion, in the deepest tiline void...

A presence felt the shift.

Not the Archivist.

Not an echo.

Sothing older.

Sothing jealous.

"So the first pen has a new hand..."

And from the dark, it started to write again.
