Anshi Enterprises found itself inexplicably under siege by the Xia Corporation. While their strengths might be parable, Xia Ling’s tactics were far more ruthless than anticipated and left no room for mercy.

Anshi had taken a conservative approach in recent years. Against Xia Ling’s reckless onslaught, they had no chance.

Xia Ling systematically dismantled Anshi’s defenses, severing their wings feather by feather.

An Chen, as Anshi’s heir, was now being pulled back into the fold. The An family wouldn’t let him continue his reckless ways.

They had disapproved of An Chen entering the entertainment industry from the start and had offered him little support over the years.

Now, with the family in crisis, An Chen was forced to return.

“You’ve been in the same group with him for so long, and you didn’t know he was connected to the Xia family?” An-fu looked at his son with deep disappointment.

An Chen flipped through the newspaper, his grip tightening until the paper tore. A sinister glint in flashed in his eyes.

“He never mentioned it,” he finally muttered.

The surname Xia was mon enough, and the records had shown he was an orphan from an orphanage.

An Chen crumpled the newspaper. “Just a bastard child, what’s there to fear? Dad, you’ve ruled the business world for years. Are you really afraid of him?”

The legitimate heir of the Xia family was still around; An Chen couldn’t believe Xia Ling could usurp the rightful successor.

An-fu almost slapped An Chen in frustration, yelling, “Do you understand the situation now? All you care about is your music. Have you ever considered the family?”

“I’m not interested in any of this.”

An-fu, seething, slapped An Chen on the head. “Without the An family, do you think you can still focus on your music?”

‘How did I end up with such a son?’

“Be at the office tomorrow!”

Without giving An Chen a chance to refuse, An-fu stormed upstairs.

An Chen’s gaze fell on the crumpled face in the newspaper, the rebellious features mocking him.

‘Xia Ling!’

With a dark expression, An Chen stomped on the newspaper and left.

Despite his lack of interest in the family business, An Chen possessed the necessary skills. Once at the pany, he took over the vice president’s role, familiarizing himself with the current situation and preparing to go head-to-head with Xia Ling.

The business battlefield, though devoid of smoke, was equally brutal.

Success required the right timing, location, and people.

One wrong move, and everything was lost.

As the protagonist, luck was on An Chen’s side. After two successive losses, Xia Ling found himself under pressure from the board.

But after a talk with Chairman Xia, the other directors’ opinions didn’t matter.

The board members were furious.

“That old fox Xia Zhi must be crazy, letting such a brat ruin the pany. At this rate, we’re doomed.”

“We need to e up with something. Xia Zhi only listens to Xia Ling now; nothing we say makes a difference.”

“Chairman Xia must have a plan. He wouldn’t let Xia Ling destroy the pany.”

Knowing Xia Zhi’s shrewd nature, they suspected he had a hidden agenda.

After venting their frustrations, they dispersed, each plotting their own schemes.

“President Xia, President Xia, our exported goods have been detained! They claim there’s an issue…” Xia Ling’s assistant rushed in, panic in his voice.

Xia Ling looked up, his cold gaze sweeping over the assistant, making him slow down.

Approaching cautiously, the assistant reported, “We just received word that someone accused us of carrying contraband. All goods must be rechecked. If we delay past the delivery date, we’ll incur hefty penalties.”

Such a large shipment meant the penalty would be no small amount.

“Contact the other party, buy some time. Prepare the car,” Xia Ling ordered curtly.

“Yes, sir.”

Xia Ling headed to customs. There, he faced obstruction and refusal to meet the person in charge. Which was clear evidence of foul play!

They didn’t need to find anything; they just needed to delay.

Xia Ling’s gaze turned icy as he stared at the distant docks.

“Miss Bu, President Xia, it’s Miss Bu,” the assistant pointed suddenly.

Xia Ling followed his direction and spotted a cute-looking girl acpanied by a man, who looked terrified as he respectfully saw her off.

“Take care, Miss Bu,” the man said, sweating profusely, almost bowing ninety degrees.

Shi Sheng glanced at him.

The man quickly added, “Miss Bu, rest assured, this will never happen again. President Xia’s goods will be prioritized.”

“Why couldn’t you be this obedient from the start?” she replied, waving him off.

The man, embarrassed, asked, “Miss Bu, when will it be resolved?”

“In a few days,” Shi Sheng said dismissively, turning away.

Her charm spell only lasted a day or two, depending on the target. As long as it wasn’t serious, like murder, they wouldn’t end up in jail, so “a few days” was accurate.

Shi Sheng had spooked the man enough.

‘Dare to mess with my waifu[1]? They should check who’s backing him first.’

Xia Ling didn’t let Shi Sheng see him. Watching her disappear into the crowd, he instructed his assistant, “Get everything ready.”

The assistant, confused, asked, “Ready for what?”

‘We’re not chasing after Miss Bu?’

While the assistant was still bewildered, a call from customs came through, informing them the inspection was plete and the goods could be released.

The assistant was stupefied. ‘Way to go, godly President Xia!’

Xia Ling didn’t return to the pany and instead went straight home.

Shi Sheng wasn’t home, though her car was parked outside.

Xia Ling called her, but her phone was out of service.

As he prepared to go downstairs, he noticed the elevator was stuck on the seventh floor. He waited for a few seconds, but the numbers didn’t change.

Feeling a strange pull, Xia Ling went to the seventh floor, calling out, “Xiao’guai, are you in there?”

Shi Sheng, about to attack the elevator, heard his voice and quickly put away her iron sword. “Xia Ling, get someone to get me out of here.”

Xia Ling sighed in relief, gently forting her, “Don’t worry.”

He called the property management.

Standing in the elevator, Shi Sheng felt a mix of frustration and irony. Her brakes had failed earlier, nearly causing an accident. Now she was stuck in an elevator, with the emergency bell out of order.

‘My goddamn luck value is acting up again!’

The property management and fire department arrived quickly, working for a while to open the elevator. Shi Sheng stood calmly inside, unfazed.

“You’re quite brave, young lady. e on out,” one of the firefighters praised.

Before she could step out, Xia Ling rushed in.

The elevator suddenly began to descend, being unstable.

[1] – I translated this as “my family’s daughter-in-law” at first, but I went back to take a look at wenhui’s translation, and she uses waifu instead which is much funnier and less clunky so it will be this from now on :3
