Chapter 57: Chapter 0057: A Warm Current in My Heart

The bathtub was a ss with water splashed everywhere because of the struggle between the two of them.

After soaking in the cold water for goddess knows how many hours, Mu Lan finally began to sober up considerably, and the effects of the drug had mostly dissipated.

Huo Tingxiao exhaled silently and grabbed a bathrobe nearby to wrap her up.

Her body was covered with nurous abrasions from fighting with those beasts, big and small; although they weren’t serious, to Huo Tingxiao, they were exceedingly unsightly.

Lying on the bed, Mu Lan’s eyes turned red the mont she saw the man in front of her painstakingly applying ointnt on her.

Just thinking about what had just happened, it felt like nothing less than a nightmare, incomparably worse than the incident with He Mingxu.

...

Biting her lip, she was filled with regret, recalled the warnings Shen Zichu gave her about how it would be safer with Huo Tingxiao around if she really wanted to go out and have fun.

She stubbornly wanted to rebel, not daring to imagine what would have beco of her if Huo Tingxiao hadn’t co back suddenly.

The more she thought about it, the more frightened she beca, her tears falling uncontrollably.

When Huo Tingxiao looked up, he saw her crying, her eyes red like a little rabbit.

Huo Tingxiao said nothing, rely silently hugged her, his voice softly comforting her. His actions were sowhat stiff; after all, this wasn’t his area of expertise, but to Mu Lan, it felt incredibly comforting.

Once her emotions stabilized a bit, after drying her hair, Mu Lan bit her lip and then, suddenly, wrapped her arms around Huo Tingxiao’s neck, clumsily and shyly kissing him.

“Mu Lan…”

He had just used great self-control, because he didn’t want to take advantage of her in her vulnerable state, didn’t want to do those things while she was unconscious.

After all that hassle, and soaking in the cold water for so long, she had finally regained her senses, and now she dared to flirt with him.

This girl, she must be a tornt sent from heaven.

His eyes grew darker and eventually, he couldn’t resist anymore.

The next day, when Mu Lan woke up, she saw the man sleeping beside her and her lips curled up slightly, a certain indescribable emotion welling up inside her. Although her mory was fragnted, the image of him descending like a god remained etched in her mind.

Huo Tingxiao…

This ti he had co back early from his business trip. Last ti, He Yan said he was working overti to co back early and she hadn’t taken it seriously, but this ti, she couldn’t help but feel a little heartache.

It was bad enough that he had to travel so far, but he also had to clean up the ss she made; she definitely couldn’t let herself be a drag on him in the future.

She originally wanted to get up and make breakfast for Huo Tingxiao, but her body felt as heavy as if it weighed a thousand pounds, and Mu Lan realized sothing was off with her.

“You’re awake?”

Soon, the man next to her opened his eyes and saw her staring unwaveringly at him, her gaze sowhat hazy.

“Huo Tingxiao…”

She spoke, her voice husky.

Huo Tingxiao got up, his upper body bare and his lower body covered with a pair of casual ho pants.

When he returned, he had a glass of water in his hand.

Mu Lan tried to get up but found she had no strength at all.

A broad palm rested on her forehead, followed by Huo Tingxiao frowning.

“You have a fever.”

“Do I?”

“Wait a mont, I’ll go get so antipyretics for you.”

After a while, Huo Tingxiao brought the pills to her lips, then helped Mu Lan sit up and drink most of a cup of water.

“Sleep a little more.”

Stroking her glossy black hair gently, Huo Tingxiao coaxed her.

Mu Lan felt groggy and drifted back to sleep unknowingly.

When she opened her eyes again, it was already past noon; she was awakened by the tempting aroma of food.

“It slls good.”

Groggy, Mu Lan rubbed her eyes and felt her head was no longer so heavy, but her body still lacked strength.

“Porridge and side dishes, get up and have so to fill your stomach.”

Directly placing the small table on the bed, Mu Lan sat up and began to eat heartily with chopsticks and a spoon.

“You didn’t go to the company today?”

“Am I in any mood to go to the company?”

His tone was neither light nor heavy, causing an embarrassed smile to appear on Mu Lan’s face.

Well, it seed she didn’t need to explain herself; he must have known the ins and outs of the situation from Shen Zichu. If he chided her, it was deserved, after all, she was the one who didn’t heed advice. But she waited and waited, and Huo Tingxiao showed no sign of lecturing her, which made her heart flutter.

“You… aren’t you going to scold ?”

“Do you want to scold you?”

“… ”

“You’re the victim, why would I bla you?”

Mu Lan was taken aback, not expecting Huo Tingxiao to say that, and felt a warm current in her heart.

“You shouldn’t be blad, but I must remind you, if you want to go to nightclubs in the future, I need to be present.”

Huo Tingxiao’s tone wasn’t suggestive, it was non-negotiable.

If it had been any other ti, Mu Lan would definitely think he was being overbearing and unreasonable, but at this mont, she knew his words were filled with nothing but concern. He was being gentle because he didn’t want her to feel any self-loathing. After a few sips of porridge and so thought, she still asked about Xie Bin’s fate.

“That Xie Bin… what are you going to do…?”

“I will handle this properly, don’t worry.”

She was worried Huo Tingxiao might be too harsh and incur resentnt. It seed Xie Bin had so familial ties with Director Liu. In just a short ti, Huo Tingxiao had dispatched a cousin for her sake, reported a business partner, and now there was Xie Bin. Mu Lan was no saint and certainly felt no pity for these people, but she did feel she owed Huo Tingxiao even more.

Suddenly, Huo Tingxiao pressed his forehead against hers, startling Mu Lan; her eyes widened, and by the ti she regained her composure, he had already returned to his original position.

“Hmm, the fever has gone down.”

Was he aware of how his actions could give soone a heart attack?

Casting her gaze downward, she continued to drink her porridge quietly, concealing the agitation within her heart. Mu Lan felt like she was about to lose her resolve, to fall.

She recalled how she had previously vowed to Mu Huaifeng that she would protect herself, and now felt even more guilty.

She hadn’t even cleared up the matter between him and Sheng Xueqin, yet she was so eager to… The mont she thought of Sheng Xueqin, Mu Lan suddenly lost her appetite and aimlessly stirred the porridge in her bowl.

As if he knew her thoughts, Huo Tingxiao unexpectedly explained the situation with Sheng Xueqin.

“On this trip to Europe for negotiations, not only Sheng Xueqin went, but He Yan and Jian An went as well.”

“Oh.”

Her response lacked enthusiasm.

“Are you still angry?”

Looking up at Huo Tingxiao, did he realize she was angry?

Her face that read ‘how did you know?’ left Huo Tingxiao helpless.

“It’s so obvious, I’m not blind of course I can tell.”

“…”

Mu Lan’s face flushed, and she glanced away.

“You’re jealous of Sheng Xueqin, thinking there’s sothing between her and ?”

Huo Tingxiao hit the nail on the head, making Mu Lan stamr.

“You and her… she’s your ex-girlfriend, if you wanted to get back together, then…”
