Chapter 52: Chapter 0052: You Don’t Believe ?

Mu Lan was stunned as she looked up at Mu Huaifeng, her tone rising.

“Brother!”

“After the incident between you and President Liu’s daughter from Jiancheng at the banquet, it wasn’t many days before Liu was reported for bribery, and now he’s under investigation.”

Mu Huaifeng spoke calmly, delivering what was indeed explosive news.

“You an Huo Tingxiao did it?”

“Who else?”

...

Mu Lan instinctively clenched the skirt she was wearing, unsure how to respond.

“At this shareholder eting, he also made quite an effort behind the scenes. It’s interesting, though, for the past seven years he’s acted as if the Mu Family didn’t exist.

You lost your mory, and he suddenly beca eager to get close. Do you know that the eldest daughter of the Sheng Family has returned?”

This ti, Mu Huaifeng’s tone was tinged with a touch of sarcasm.

“I know.”

It wasn’t just knowledge; she had seen her several tis already, Sheng Xueqin even worked in front of Huo Tingxiao.

“So you also know that Huo Tingxiao took Sheng Xueqin with him on his business trip this ti?”

“What did you say?”

Mu Lan stiffened, staring unblinkingly at Mu Huaifeng, clearly shocked by the news.

“It seems you were not aware of the fact that he took Sheng Xueqin to Europe on business. Hmph, indeed, a man’s word is the least reliable, even though he promised he would treat you well.”

The temperature in Mu Huaifeng’s voice dropped several degrees; he hadn’t wanted to speak of these matters, as it seed a bit like burning bridges.

However, he couldn’t dismiss Sheng Xueqin lightly; the power of the Sheng Family in Sea City was not to be underestimated. These great families may look glorious, but they engage in plenty of distasteful deeds behind the closed doors, willing to do anything to maintain their honor. Although the Mu Family was also well-known in Sea City, they were still not on par with the two major families, so he had to beco even stronger to protect his own family.

Shen Ying’s words at the dinner table today were not without rit, but Mu Huaifeng didn’t want his sister to treat marriage as a transaction; he wanted her to live a safe, healthy, and happy life. A child should not be a ans to tie down a man and stabilize a marriage, but rather the continuation of one’s own life and love.

“Brother, you’re including yourself in that criticism.”

“I’m not the sa as him.”

Mu Lan gave a bitter smile, her thoughts in disarray.

She couldn’t even be sure whether Huo Tingxiao was sincere about continuing their marriage as he said, or if Sheng Xueqin’s assertion was the truth—that she was just a front, and ultimately he would get back together with Sheng Xueqin.

Should she exit now and save so face for herself?

“Also, I suspect that the car accident was no accident.”

This was the crux of the matter.

Mu Huaifeng’s conjecture sent a chill down Mu Lan’s spine.

“Brother, do you think soone wanted to kill ?”

“Whether they wanted to kill you or simply warn you, it’s hard to say.

The problem lies in your amnesia; if only you could rember what happened before, we might have so clues.

Lanlan, have you ever thought about regaining your lost mories?”

Mu Lan lowered her eyelids, struggling to know how to answer the question.

“Brother, give so ti to think about it.”

“Sure, I won’t pressure you. Just know that whatever happens, as long as I’m here, I’ll always protect you.”

Mu Lan’s eyes turned red at her brother’s words.

“Brother, you’re so annoying, always saying things that make cry.”

“Stop crying, you already look unattractive enough; crying makes you even uglier.”

“…”

There, the touching mont lasted no more than three seconds.

“And don’t bla mom for always urging you to have children; after dad passed away, what she worries about the most is you.

But, I think, with the current situation, you’d better slow down. You understand what I’m saying, right?”

True to being siblings, Mu Lan had the sa thought. She hadn’t even figured out her own situation; to get pregnant rashly, she really feared she couldn’t bear the responsibility.

“Mhm, I got it, brother. Don’t worry, I will take good care of myself.”

———-

In the bedroom of the Mu Mansion, after washing up, Mu Lan stared blankly at her phone. It should be afternoon in Europe at this ti, yet Huo Tingxiao had not sent a ssage. She didn’t know if he was busy or…

Although she didn’t want to admit it in her heart, Mu Lan’s actions revealed that she had unconsciously started to care about Huo Tingxiao.

She inadvertently dialed Huo Tingxiao’s phone number back and forth, and by the ti she realized it, the call had already connected.

She suddenly sat up, nervously clutching the phone, swallowed hard and then cautiously spoke.

“Hello?”

“Hello?”

To her surprise, it was a woman’s voice!

Mu Lan bit her lip, took a deep breath.

“I’m looking for Huo Tingxiao.”

“Miss Mu?”

Sheng Xueqin’s voice ca from the other end of the line, making Mu Lan’s heart suddenly sink. Before she could respond, the voice on the other end spoke again.

“I’m sorry, Tingxiao is taking a shower. Would you like to wait for him to call you back after he’s out?”

“Fine, I’ll wait for his call.”

There was a pause on the other end, as Sheng Xueqin clearly hadn’t expected Mu Lan to say that. Frowning, she bit her lip before replying.

“Understood.”

After hanging up the phone, Sheng Xueqin let out a cold snort, lightly tapped with her finger to delete the call log, and then put the phone back in its place.

When Huo Tingxiao finished his shower and saw Sheng Xueqin there, he couldn’t help but frown.

“Why are you here?”

“The door was ajar, I ca to deliver so docunts.”

Sheng Xueqin was not about to admit that she had secretly bribed the front desk to make a copy of a room key.

Looking at the docunts in her hand, Huo Tingxiao reached out to take them.

“Send He Yan next ti.”

His cold tone made Sheng Xueqin purse her lips.

The more she was in this situation, the less she could afford to be negligent. A direct confrontation with Huo Tingxiao would only end in her own loss.

“Okay, I got it.”

After turning around and leaving the suite, Huo Tingxiao opened his phone and found no missed calls, a sense of disappointnt he couldn’t hide.

It must be night ti in China by now, and the Mu Family shareholders’ eting had just ended not long ago. She was probably happily celebrating with her family.

He had no idea that Mu Lan had just called him a short while ago.

Mu Lan, holding her phone and waiting for Huo Tingxiao’s return call, frowned, noting that ti was passing by. It had been half an hour–enough ti for more than a bath, she thought…

Her mind couldn’t help but conjure up many inappropriate scenarios. Mu Lan quickly redialed, and this ti the call was answered imdiately.

“Haven’t you gone to bed yet?”

The man’s low voice ca through the phone.

“Have you been taking a bath, or have you been doing sothing else?”

Her sour tone caused Huo Tingxiao to raise an eyebrow.

“What?”

“If I hadn’t called you, when were you planning to call back?”

“Call back?”

Confronted by Mu Lan’s question, Huo Tingxiao suddenly realized what had happened just now.

“Sheng Xueqin did co over to deliver so docunts while I was indeed taking a shower. After I got out, I told her to leave. She didn’t ntion your call.”

He spoke with no hint of guilt, simply stating what had happened quietly.

However, Mu Lan on the other end of the line fell silent, seemingly weighing the truth of his words.

“You don’t believe ?”
