What a rule, ignoring life or death!
Yan Hongzhao’s eyes glinted coldly, and her hand showed no rcy. She didn’t even let Ghost Face and the brothers lift a finger; in a few monts, the tip of her whip had already wrapped around Deputy General Chen’s neck.
"Stop, all of you!" Deputy General Chen bellowed.
All the soldiers ceased imdiately.
"I am an official appointed by the Imperial Court; how dare you lay a hand on ?" The whip was covered with barbs, embedding into his flesh and causing intense pain. Deputy General Chen dared not move but maintained his tough deanor.
A sneer appeared at the corner of Yan Hongzhao’s lips, "Dare not move against you, what do you think I am doing right now?"
The whip was wrapped around his neck, and his life was in her hands. Yan Hongzhao truly wondered what he was still being defiant about.
re strength vested in his position as the Deputy General of the Western Military Camp?
Ridiculous!
If it ca to connections, she was the Crown Prince’s aunt.
Had she ever flaunted it?
Certainly not!
"A re Deputy General dares to disregard the Crown Prince’s Imperial Edict. What great authority you wield! Shall I send a ssage by carrier pigeon right now, and have the Crown Prince co explain personally how these prisoners of war should be dealt with?"
Yan Hongzhao’s grip on the whip tightened gradually, and Deputy General Chen had no choice but to grasp desperately at the whip with both hands.
"You wretch, if you dare to kill , you’ll certainly not walk out of this camp alive!" Deputy General Chen was close to madness.
The surrounding soldiers watched Yan Hongzhao warily and with anger.
Everyone was convinced she wouldn’t dare to do it.
Yet, it was this very conviction that made Yan Hongzhao’s eyes grow cold.
"I want to see if I can walk out of this camp after killing you."
In the blink of an eye, the whip contracted, and Deputy General Chen didn’t even have the chance to scream before his head slumped to the side, and he crashed to the ground.
A soldier stepped forward to check his breath, hands trembling, "He’s gone! He’s gone, Deputy General Chen is gone!"
This woman clad in red had actually killed Deputy General Chen!
"Brothers, surround them, don’t let the murderer escape!"
Soldiers from all over the camp surged forward with weapons drawn, moving towards them. Yan Hongzhao nonchalantly pulled a Token from her waist and slowly raised it into the air.
"The Crown Prince’s Token is here, who dares to act rashly!"
"It...it really is the Crown Prince’s Token!" Seeing the Token was as good as seeing the Crown Prince himself, not to ntion it was the Tiger Token, which held the power to command all armies.
Soldiers extended from in front of Yan Hongzhao all the way to the back, kneeling throughout the whole camp.
"Long live the Crown Prince, long live, long live!"
Yan Hongzhao put away the Token, reiterating the content of the Imperial Edict, "With the situation at hand, do any of you still have objections?"
Truly ignorant fools.
The Western Military Camp really did need the reform as the Crown Prince had ntioned.
No wonder, before departing, he instructed her with the Tiger Token.
Everything was as he had anticipated.
Looking at the sea of kneeling soldiers, a surge of emotion welled up within Yan Hongzhao.
When she was a child, frail and never having followed her father and brothers to the battlefield, she would always pester her older sister and brothers to recount their tales of war. Over ti, she secretly nurtured a hidden dream of heroism.
"Is the lieutenant general present?"
"This humble general is here!" A lean figure sprinted forward from the back.
Yan Hongzhao sized him up, noticing the profuse sweat on his forehead.
She held the Imperial Edict in both hands and stepped forward, "Deputy General Chen is dead, and you are now the highest-ranking officer in the camp. This Imperial Edict is entrusted to you."
"Your subordinate obeys the decree!" The lieutenant general imdiately knelt on both knees and took the Imperial Edict.
The Imperial Edict was not heavy, but the lieutenant general seed to use all his strength to hold it in his palms.
Not far to his right was the face of Deputy General Chen, eyes wide open, with a purplish hue, and those eyes were still staring straight at him.
Straight ahead, as he knelt on the ground, he could only see the bright red hem of a dress.
Under the double blow, he just wanted to faint.
In the ti it took him to visit the privy, his imdiate superior had died, and he was forced to step in; the pressure was overwhelming—who could understand?
"After dawn, muster the troops; you go arrange it," Yan Hongzhao spoke.
The lieutenant general imdiately nodded in agreent.
"Let’s go."
The lieutenant general was stunned, "Where to?"
Yan Hongzhao reached out and pulled him up by the shoulder, "Naturally, to Deputy General Chen’s tent." Mustering troops at dawn, she naturally needed to find a place to rest for a while.
Moreover, those over two thousand disciples of the Divine Church of Light could not be settled in a short ti.
What was supposed to be a three-day journey might now be delayed even longer.
"What about Deputy General Chen..." The lieutenant general blurted out, then quickly covered his mouth with his hand.
Ghost Face chuckled gently, "Such a person who disrespects the Crown Prince should naturally be regarded as a treacherous official and a thief. Just wrap him up and toss him into the Mass Burial Mound. Does soone need to teach you that?"
It was supposed to be a warning to others; Deputy General Chen was too arrogant, and his death was well deserved.
Yan Hongzhao did not deny the arrangent suggested by Ghost Face.
The lieutenant general quickly signalled for the soldiers to take care of Deputy General Chen’s body.
Upon entering the tent, Yan Hongzhao imdiately noticed that the setup was unlike any other tent—it was too spacious and luxurious for a deputy general.
"This was originally the Great General’s tent. After the general t with misfortune, and the Imperial Court did not assign a new general, Deputy General Chen moved in here once it beca vacant. We didn’t dare to say anything," after all, an official one rank higher crushes the others.
Deputy General Chen also had a terrible temper. He frequently beat and scolded them and dealt with them via military law.
Many were as afraid of him as cats are of mice, very fearful.
"Hmph," Yan Hongzhao let out a cold laugh after listening.
Indeed, Deputy General Chen’s death was no loss.
"Do you have any other matters?" The lieutenant general asked cautiously. It would take so ti to settle the two thousand prisoners of war properly; they couldn’t all be blocked outside and had to be brought in.
He had concerns, and they couldn’t be concealed on his face.
"If you have matters to attend to, go ahead," the lieutenant general seed to be honest and sincere.
Watching him leave, Yan Hongzhao sat on the chair, stroking the deerskin seat, her eyes flashing with light.
"Boss, why does this kid look so foolish?" Ghost Face chuckled beside her, sitting down on another chair, and the others sat down as well.
Yan Hongzhao did not bring many people with her this ti, only six.
Starting with Ghost Face, they were the Six Great King Kongs under Yan Hongzhao’s command.
"That kid worthy of Boss’s personal effort? One punch from , Old Five, and his head would burst like a lon," said Old Five, with scars on his face that wriggled like a centipede when he spoke, sending shivers down one’s spine.
Ghost Face quickly intervened, "Shut your mouth."
He knew that Yan Hongzhao disliked hearing such talk.
"We are in the military camp now; we must abide by the rules and curb the banditry in you," he said sternly.
Yan Hongzhao’s face relaxed a bit at this.
"You all have been tired for several days, go rest individually. At dawn for the troop muster, I’ll take you to see the world."
