After exchanging pleasantries for a while, the City Lord went out to receive the guests.

Yan Wanqing didn’t want to stay with Chen Di at all, so she claid she was tired and planned to go back to rest.

Chen Di was not willing to let Yan Wanqing go and hastily arranged a courtyard for her, then warmly escorted her there.

"Master, please return, the Commandery Princess needs to take a short rest," Cong Ge stood at the doorway, blocking Chen Di’s prying gaze into the interior.

There was not a hint of noise from within.

Just the trace of fresh fragrance brought out by the breeze through the hall was enough to refresh one’s mind and spirit.

"Well... I won’t disturb the Commandery Princess’s rest then, hoping she will grace the banquet at the appointed ti."

"Of course." Cong Ge suppressed the nausea surging in her body, smiling flawlessly.

Having finally sent Chen Di away, she imdiately put on a cold face and said to Shen Shuyun, "Have a few more maids guard the yard, we don’t want those people coming over and being a nuisance again."

Shen Shuyun had no desire to deal with these people either, and she was thrilled to hear what Cong Ge said.

"That eldest son of the City Lord Residence, the way he looks at our Commandery Princess with those squinting eyes, he’s truly annoying," she couldn’t help but pout as she spoke.

Cong Ge glanced at her, "We’re not at ho here, you should rember what to say and what not to say, and keep your mouth shut."

"Isn’t this just between you and , Sister Cong Ge?"

Cong Ge sighed, "Be careful, for walls have ears, hurry up and go." She walked towards the inner room.

Shen Shuyun frowned and pouted, feeling sowhat displeased.

Really, what’s with all the fuss, are people from the Capital City always this exhausting to deal with?

Outside, the noon sun was blazing hot, and as it approached midday, she began to sweat lightly as soon as she stepped out the door.

Shen Shuyun called the maids and manservants to guard outside the courtyard, while she intended to visit the kitchen for so refreshing food to have for lunch.

She had woken up late that morning, opting to sleep a little longer instead of eating breakfast, and now her stomach was rumbling with hunger.

lured by the sll of food, Shen Shuyun dove into the kitchen.

As soone from Princess Anping’s entourage, everyone in the City Lord Residence recognized her by now, and after Shen Shuyun entered the kitchen, the chefs treated her like they would their own daughter, insisting fervently that she eat.

"I’m stuffed, burp—!" Shen Shuyun leaned against a willow tree, holding her waist, and burped.

She had not expected such enthusiasm from these aunties and uncles.

Even after she was full, they kept piling more food into her bowl.

"What are you doing here?!" A sharp female voice suddenly rang out from behind.

Shen Shuyun instinctively turned her head to look and saw Xiaomian holding a food box.

She was stunned.

The mory of the beating she received from Xiaomian at the tailor shop flooded back to her mind.

Shen Shuyun straightened her posture, her eyes brimming with hostility.

"I’m talking to you, how did you co to the City Lord Residence?" Xiaomian approached, glancing around and noticing no one else nearby.

Shen Shuyun responded coldly, "It’s none of your business."

"Still as unpleasant as ever, weren’t you taught enough of a lesson last ti?" Xiaomian sneered as she stepped forward and pushed Shen Shuyun’s shoulder, causing her to fall backward and sit down on the ground.

"Where is your master? Didn’t she say last ti that she would show what for?"

Shen Shuyun clenched her teeth, fearing the ntion of Yan Wanqing would scare them to death then and there!

"If I were you, I wouldn’t be looking for trouble right now." Shen Shuyun’s gaze warned, "I know who you serve as a maid, and I’m sure you wouldn’t want to cause trouble for your master."

"Oh, what arrogance!" Xiaomian scoffed, hearing footsteps behind her so she deliberately slamd the food box to the ground. The box contained scalding fish soup, which mostly splashed onto Shen Shuyun, causing her such pain that tears instantly sprang to her eyes.

Xiaomian burst into tears at that mont, "Where did this crazy girl co from, just grabbing if you’re not given fish soup! It’s really too much!"

Shen Shuyun was in so much pain that her little face turned white, her forehead was covered with dense sweat, and she struggled to climb up from the ground, "You’re spouting nonsense! Clearly, you were the one who threw it!"

"Miss, this servant didn’t! How could this servant throw away the fish soup that Miss wanted to drink." Xiaomian threw herself at the feet of the newcor.

Shen Shuyun stubbornly raised her eyes to et those of Huai Xini, dressed in white.

She saw the indifference and sarcasm in her eyes.

The way she looked at her was as if seeing sothing laughable.

"Don’t you want to say sothing?" Huai Xini looked at Shen Shuyun and spoke indifferently.

Shen Shuyun bit her lower lip, "You and your servant are birds of a feather, is there any point in wasting words explaining to you?!"

"Such spirit. I hope you can maintain it," was the response.

"What do you an?" Shen Shuyun had a bad premonition.

Huai Xini laughed lightly, took out a hairpin from her sleeve, "Do you still rember this object? I looked into its origin, it seems to co from the Marquis Residence, then it was given to the Commandery Princess by your great-aunt. Now, tell , how did this end up with you? Hmm?"

The tone of her last word was full of threat.

Shen Shuyun felt as if the blood in her body started to flow backward.

At this mont, the pain in her body had gradually beco insensible. She clenched her fists tightly, staring fixedly at Huai Xini, sweat soaked her bangs, sticking tightly to her scalp, appearing utterly disheveled and pitiful.

"What are you trying to do?"

"The one who saved you last ti was the Commandery Princess?" Huai Xini counter-questioned. Standing behind the crowd, she naturally didn’t know the person who had co was Yan Wanqing, but it wasn’t difficult to find out about the incident.

"Knowing it was Her Highness the Commandery Princess herself, yet you dare to let the maid hurt ! Aren’t you afraid of the Commandery Princess’s punishnt?" Shen Shuyun said through gritted teeth.

Huai Xini laughed upon hearing this.

She squinted her eyes, appraising Shen Shuyun from head to toe, "A servant who embezzles, what kind of master would like that? If you’re not afraid of others knowing, then co with now to see the Commandery Princess and we’ll see who ends up in trouble then."

Huai Xini walked forward, and Xiaomian imdiately ca up to pull Shen Shuyun to her feet.

"Don’t touch !" Shen Shuyun scread loudly.

Xiaomian slapped her on the face, "What’s with the yelling in broad daylight? Do you think the City Lord Residence is your backyard?"

Shen Shuyun, holding her face, stared fixedly at Huai Xini, "If you have sothing to say, just say it directly, there’s no need to beat around the bush like this."

"You should know why I’m looking for you." Huai Xini pushed Xiaomian aside, helped Shen Shuyun to stand properly, and then with her delicate hand, she used a handkerchief to wipe the sweat off Shen Shuyun’s forehead, speaking in a very tender voice, "You’re not a fool, obey and I’ll keep my lips sealed, it’s a win-win for both of us, isn’t that nice?"

"You want to be your spy?" Shen Shuyun frowned deeply.

Huai Xini stared at her unblinkingly, "Spy is such an ugly word. It’s just a matter of caring for the Commandery Princess, to help her live better at the Northern Border as much as I can, that’s all."

"If you don’t agree, I’ll just have to tell the Commandery Princess. This servant has heard that Her Highness has been to the battlefield and has killed before, she loathes liars the most," Xiaomian said ominously.

Killing...

Shen Shuyun had seen Yan Wanqing kill before.

If she really ca to know of her ridiculous doings, killing her might be unlikely, but it could an not being allowed to follow her anymore.

And Shen Shuyun was still counting on Yan Wanqing to help her with killing Song Huaxu.

This wouldn’t do...

The only option now was to pretend to yield to the woman before her, and when an opportunity arises, she would bite back!

Shen Shuyun feigned a timid appearance and nodded, "I’ll listen to you, please don’t tell the Commandery Princess."

"That’s more like it. From now on, we’re good sisters." At that mont, Xiaomian ca up and draped an arm around her.
