Huai Yu had not spoken the entire journey, until they were behind Yan Wanqing’s exquisite little courtyard, at which point she let out a sigh.

"You could have just broken the engagent and left, but now with things turning out this way, you can’t leave."

Yan Wanqing released her hand: "If I can’t leave, then I won’t." Besides the matter of dealing with Song Huaxu constantly weighing on her mind, she had already taken care of everything else.

With Huai Yu living under such oppressive and difficult conditions, as her sister, if she rely cared for her own happiness and left directly, wouldn’t that be utterly heartless and ungrateful?

"But..." Huai Yu’s face showed distress. The Northern Border was extrely chaotic right now, and even she often found herself in dangerous situations. She didn’t want Yan Wanqing to step out of the Capital City’s dragon’s den only to enter the tiger’s lair of the Northern Border.

"No more ’buts’. I’ve already hit that Madam Liu, and there’s no regret dicine to take now." Yan Wanqing shrugged her shoulders: "Moreover, I encountered a large-scale assassination attempt recently, and now there’s evidence that this person is in the Northern Border..."

"Are you saying soone from the Marquis Residence tried to assassinate you?!" Huai Yu’s face turned an ashen color: "Who would dare! Once I find out, I’ll tear them limb from limb!"

"So I’m staying here, not only for you but also for myself."

After hearing this, Huai Yu’s expression eased slightly. She reached out to rub the space between her eyebrows and sat down on a chair in the courtyard: "You have no idea how dangerous the Northern Border is. You’ve already seen the wounds on my body... Wanqing, you know I really don’t want you to stay. I can’t even protect myself, let alone you. If you get hurt even a little bit because of , for the rest of my life... I, I..."

As Huai Yu spoke, her eyes started to redden.

After all, she was just a woman.

Having struggled so hard for so many years, she was now at the end of her rope. The Northern Border faced internal strife and external threats, and she was utterly weary and overwheld.

In front of Yan Wanqing, a person whom she trust completely and could confide in, Huai Yu felt as vulnerable as a child.

Yan Wanqing stepped forward to hold her in an embrace, gently rubbing her head: "Huai Yu... If you don’t want to be in danger, then don’t I want to save you from this ss as well? If I can handle imperial power, what’s a re Northern Border to ? So don’t worry, I’ll take care of everything. We have to go through with this marriage."

Not only did they have to go through with it, but they also had to make a grand event of it.

She was determined to enable Huai Yu to live openly and honorably as a woman.

A resolute light flashed through Yan Wanqing’s eyes.

But Huai Yu’s eyes were full of bitterness.

Had she made the wrong choice, ultimately dragging Wanqing into this mire?

She was already heartbroken from the loss of her loved ones, and now, covered in injuries from her departure from the Capital City, it tornted her to once again see Yan Wanqing risk her safety for her sake. These thoughts made Huai Yu feel extrely distressed.

At that mont, Shen Shuyun carried a basin of water out from inside. Seeing this scene, she was dumbfounded: "You, you..."

She vaguely rembered that previously in Mingyue Town, Yan Wanqing had a significant relationship with another man; how co now that she was in the Northern Border, there was a different one.

The man before her had delicate features, his eyes full of feeling, but he looked pale, not as robust as the last one. However... there was a different charm to him.

Under Shen Shuyun’s teasing and surprised gaze, Huai Yu slowly broke free and gave a light cough: "Well then... I won’t intrude any longer. The night is deep; you should rest early."

Yan Wanqing nodded, instructing her: "Leave everything to ."

"Hmm." Huai Yu nodded and left the courtyard.

Yan Wanqing’s thoughts settled slightly. As she turned around, she saw Shen Shuyun approaching, grinning: "Commandery Princess, you truly are a role model for all of us won!"

"?" Yan Wanqing raised an eyebrow, puzzled.

Shen Shuyun nudged her with her shoulder and whispered: "Ah, stop pretending, I saw it all." She lowered her voice even more: "Each has their qualities, but do they know about each other’s existence? Won’t they end up fighting over you out of jealousy?"

Good Heavens.

These words made Yan Wanqing laugh despite herself.

It seed that Shen Shuyun thought she was uncommitted and carefree.

"That’s not the case, they get along very well." Yan Wanqing said deliberately, and sure enough, Shen Shuyun’s eyes glead even brighter: "That’s amazing! You should teach too. One or two is not too few, three or four is not too many. If I could have more the rrier, then my life would be well lived indeed."

Yan Wanqing: "..." She hadn’t expected this girl to be so greedy.

Talk about ’the more the rrier’!

She shook her head helplessly: "If there really is a way, it’s probably that they both love very much and are willing to accommodate each other for my sake." Saying so, Yan Wanqing patted Shen Shuyun’s shoulder as she walked into the inner room.

Shen Shuyun stood in the courtyard with the basin of water, mulling over these words, her eyes sparkling with cunning light as if a door to a new world had been opened to her.

Amazing!

The next morning dawned.

As Yan Wanqing opened her eyes, she saw a small figure curled up beside her bed.

The little face was dirty, and the clothes were also full of various holes.

That little rascal Yan Lingzhen had co back in the dead of night and climbed into her bed without even washing up.

"Xiaoliu?" She reached out her hand and pushed.

Yan Lingzhen muttered sothing unintelligible, wiped the drool from the corner of his mouth with the back of his hand, then turned over and continued sleeping.

Yan Wanqing took a deep breath, suppressing the urge to roll up the person and bedding together and throw them out, and got up from bed herself.

It was clear that she could no longer stay in this damned little courtyard.

She would go out today and buy a new estate.

After all, she had plenty of money, burning a hole in her pocket.

"Master." Hong Wu appeared as soon as Yan Wanqing got up.

Yan Wanqing rubbed her eyes, her voice still soft from just waking up, different from her usual cool deanor.

"How did it go?"

Hong Wu blushed at her question, hastened to answer, "Just as you expected, master, that person finally placed an order at our establishnt."

"Did he say anything?"

"’Ten thousand gold is too expensive. Is one thousand gold okay?’" Hong Wu pouted.

Yan Wanqing was both amused and irritated as she spit out the saltwater in her mouth, "My life is not even worth ten thousand gold now?"

Hong Wu struggled to suppress a smile.

"One thousand gold? The nerve to even suggest it!" she snorted coldly, "Don’t accept it. It’s ten thousand gold or nothing."

A warrior can be killed but not humiliated.

"Haggling as if Stormy Building is a marketplace."

Hong Wu tried hard not to laugh, quickly agreed, and vanished from sight.

Yan Wanqing practiced a set of sword techniques in the courtyard just as Cong Ge returned from outside.

She didn’t look too pleased.

Seeing the clear soup and scanty al on her plate, Yan Wanqing knew it was the sa old tricks.

"These won have no new tactics, just liking to fuss over food, it’s really dull," Yan Wanqing said, sheathing her sword, exhaling a breath of turbid air, and laughing coldly.

Cong Ge set her plate on the stone table.

"There are hardly a few grains of rice, it’s truly excessive."

"No matter. Go wake the two of them up and get ready. Since the Marquis Residence doesn’t welco us, we’ll go out and buy ourselves a new residence." Yan Wanqing truly wasn’t short on cash.

Cong Ge knew her mistress’s temperant well.

If no one offends , I offend no one. But if soone offends , I will eradicate them completely.

The entire Marquis Residence had truly hit the iron board this ti.

Yan Wanqing set out early in the morning, striding boldly out the door.

First, she had breakfast, and then she started looking at various estates.

By a twist of fate, there happened to be an estate directly diagonally opposite the Marquis Residence. It belonged to a once well-regarded but now downtrodden country gentleman. The estate was twice the size of the Marquis Residence, and if not for the family’s downfall, it likely wouldn’t have been on the market.

Upon seeing it, everyone in Yan Wanqing’s party liked it.

She gave a grand wave of her hand.

"Buy it!"
