Yan Wanqing had heard that petulant voice from afar and subconsciously furrowed her brows.
Accompanied by a series of clattering sounds of things being smashed, she stood at the doorway and saw luggage scattered all over the courtyard.
Li Chengxiang, whom she had wanted to find and chat with, stood silently in the center of the courtyard, beginning to pick up items with a bowed head.
Her expression was impassive, as if she was already very accustod to such scenes, which was touching to observe.
Upon glancing at the flamboyantly dressed woman on the steps, Yan Wanqing recognized her as the person who had previously hurt her younger sister, Li Chengyuan.
She then heard Li Chengyuan speak.
"The fact that the Li Family could co here is all thanks to pleading specially before Prince Seven. Otherwise, based on our father’s official rank, in this lifeti or even the next, we would never have had the chance to co to the Sumr Resort with His Majesty. So sister, in the future, you can only use what I leave behind, understand?"
Li Chengxiang pressed her lips together and said nothing, clutching a pile of clothing that had already beco sowhat dirty from the moisture on the ground.
Seeing that she remained silent, Li Chengyuan snorted coldly, "Don’t be silent. Rember, our father said that, outside, you must put first in everything."
"Understood," Li Chengxiang finally spoke.
Li Chengyuan felt a bit more pleased upon hearing this.
Li Chengxiang looked at her and asked, "May I return to my room now?"
Li Chengyuan waved her hand, "Go ahead."
Li Chengxiang then, with the help of a maid, picked up all the scattered belongings and entered the opposite room.
Her honest and obedient deanor contrasted sharply with the graceful and effortless composure Yan Wanqing had seen before.
Yan Wanqing had thought that after the incident in the alleyway, Li Chengxiang’s half-sister would no longer be able to bounce around, but surprisingly, she was thriving, even suppressing Li Chengxiang.
Mr. Li truly didn’t know how to be a parent.
The family’s rules were such that there was no distinction between legitimate and illegitimate children.
A disapproval flashed through Yan Wanqing’s mind.
At the mont, she had no intention of poking at soone’s sore spot; Li Chengxiang probably didn’t want to see her either.
With that thought, Yan Wanqing turned to leave. But just as she turned around, she heard Li Chengyuan’s sycophantic laughter from behind her.
"I had no idea that the Commandery Princess was gracing us with her presence. It really is an honor, Your Highness. Have you co to see ?"
Hearing Li Chengyuan’s voice, Li Chengxiang also ca out of the opposite room and respectfully perford a curtsy toward Yan Wanqing.
Yan Wanqing raised her hand and said, "There’s no need for formalities."
In response to Li Chengyuan’s expectant gaze, Yan Wanqing gently smiled at Li Chengxiang and said, "No, I am here to see her."
Li Chengxiang instantly felt overwheld by the favor, while Li Chengyuan forced out a sour laugh and returned to her room.
Her whole deanor lacked courtesy.
Li Chengxiang could only approach Yan Wanqing and speak on behalf of Li Chengyuan.
After listening to her, Yan Wanqing smiled subtly and asked, "Would you like to accompany on a walk to take your mind off things?"
Li Chengxiang nodded, "Of course, I would be willing."
She was extrely surprised and delighted by Yan Wanqing’s unexpected visit and invitation.
"I haven’t yet thanked you for what happened last ti," Yan Wanqing said, referring to the day when it rained heavily and Li Chengxiang held an umbrella for her outside Prince Seven’s residence.
Li Chengxiang replied shyly, "I only did what any ordinary citizen would do. I didn’t expect the Commandery Princess to keep it in mind; I am really quite moved."
Seeing her cheeks turn red, Yan Wanqing asked in surprise, "Are you very hot?"
Li Chengxiang quickly waved her hands disclaiming, "This might be rather presumptuous to say, but upon a closer look, Your Highness’s beauty is beyond description, like a fairy descended from heaven. I was montarily so captivated... that’s why this..."
Only after she had said everything on her mind did she realize just how ridiculous her words had been.
She looked anxiously at Yan Wanqing, fearing that she would be angry.
But to her surprise, Yan Wanqing only covered her mouth and chuckled softly.
"You’re quite interesting, girl. No wonder my sixth sister enjoys playing with you."
Li Chengxiang, hearing Yan Wanqing ntion Yan Lingzhen, asked curiously, "Is Miss Yan Lingzhen also here this ti?"
"Of course; as soon as she entered the mountain, she went to ss with her herbs," Yan Wanqing said with a smile. "You’ll see her tomorrow."
As they walked together through the mountain, chatting and laughing, they found it quite pleasant.
After a while, soone stopped them.
Yan Wanqing recognized him as Wa Chengnan, a retainer of the seventh prince.
Wa Chengnan looked haggard, his gaze fixated on Li Chengxiang with a sorrowful earnestness.
Realizing the situation, Yan Wanqing said, "The Commandery Princess rembers so matters that need attention, so I’ll take my leave first."
Wa Chengnan gave her a grateful smile and watched Yan Wanqing leave.
Once Yan Wanqing had gone, Li Chengxiang turned around and walked away without looking back.
Wa Chengnan hurried forward and grabbed her arm in desperation.
"Can we talk?"
"There’s nothing to talk about with you anymore," Li Chengxiang replied coldly. "You’ve been dismissed by ."
"...Can’t you give one more chance?" Wa Chengnan’s face showed a pained expression.
Li Chengxiang shook her head and chuckled lightly, "Did you think of giving a chance when you were in bed with Li Chengyuan? Wa Chengnan, it’s your own actions that have burned the bridges behind . Now you have the nerve to ask for a chance... Do you deserve it?"
"I know I don’t deserve it," Wa Chengnan sighed. "But Chengxiang, I can’t forget you. These months apart, I’ve lost my appetite and my thoughts are tornted with mories of you. To , other won might as well be blank pieces of paper. I truly can’t forget you; it’s agony."
"That’s your problem," Li Chengxiang said, yanking her arm free and turning to leave.
Seeing this, Wa Chengnan took several steps forward and outstretched his arm to block her path.
"Please, just talk to properly."
Li Chengxiang, angered by his behavior, said, "I never realized you were such a shaless ruffian."
"As long as you talk to , I am willing to do anything, please give this chance," Wa Chengnan pleaded, his eyes lighting up with a glimr of hope.
Li Chengxiang let out a heavy sigh, "Fine, go ahead and tell what you really want to do."
"Can we—"
"Dream on," Li Chengxiang interrupted sharply. With a stern face, she continued, "If it’s about that, then we have nothing to talk about. You and I simply cannot start over."
She looked at Wa Chengnan’s injured expression, unmoved.
"I, Li Chengxiang, don’t need the affection of a tainted man like you."
The light in Wa Chengnan’s eyes dimd by half, but he still clung to a sliver of hope, "I’ve inquired around, you’ve turned down all the proposals, surely because you can’t forget ... Chengxiang, give one chance, I promise to live well with you in the future."
"I can’t give you a chance, but I can give you two slaps," Li Chengxiang said, raising her hand upon seeing his brazenness.
Wa Chengnan, instead of dodging, brought his face closer.
"If it’ll make you feel better, then hit !"
Li Chengxiang was furious, "You—"
"You can’t bear to do it, can you?" Wa Chengnan, seeing that the slap had not yet fallen, delightedly said with a laugh, "I knew it, you still have feelings for ."
