"When Joyce's guest said 'village', I thought that there would just be around 5-6 houses," Kenneth complained as he was standing with his fists on his hips and his eyes overlooking the Stormford village. "But this almost looks like a town! How are we going to find her?"
Damien got out of the carriage and dragged the suitcase from under the seat. "What was her na again?" he asked after putting the suitcase on the ground, beside Kenneth.
"Scarlett."
"Oh, right!" Damien took out the pouch filled with gold coins that he had kept in the pocket of his overcoat before getting off the carriage. And he suggested while pouring out several gold coins on his palm, "Why don't we start with her na? We can try asking around. Soone might know her."
"Mmm… I don't think we have any other option with us." Kenneth agreed while darting his eyes around the countless houses that were standing next to each other in harmony.
When Damien handed the gold coins to the coachman which was way more than what the latter asked for, the coachman happily accepted the money and bowed to Damien. "Thank you for your generosity, Milord."
Damien gave a nod and put the pouch in his pocket.
The coachman also put his earnings safely in his pocket and looked at the gentlen. Since he knew that they had money to pay him, he asked them, "Milords, if you need a ride back to the Paradise Edge then I can wait for the both of you. I will be in an inn nearby."
However, since the gentlen didn't know for how long they were going to be here in Stormford, and also because Damien could easily teleport back now, Damien denied the kind request from the coachman. "I'm sorry but, we haven't decided when we are returning."
Damien held out his hand for a handshake with the coachman and said, "But thank you for safely bringing us here. And I hope you won't stop the carriage and roam the forest alone on your return trip."
The coachman felt sowhat embarrassed by Damien's words. But he was also happy at the sa ti because the lord was extending his hand for a handshake with a commoner like him.
"I will take my leave then." The coachman shook hands with Damien and wished them good luck before taking his seat in the carriage.
When the carriage left them, both Damien and Kenneth looked down at the large village ahead of them. Damien picked up the suitcase from the ground and then asked Kenneth, "Okay, what are we waiting for then? Let's go and find Scarlett."
Kenneth looked at Damien and heaved a nervous sigh.
Damien softly smiled at the Prince and patted his shoulder to make him feel slightly comfortable. "Don't be nervous. We will find her and also find out the truth. Just…"
Damien didn't want Kenneth to be heartbroken once more so he suggest, "Just don't keep your hopes high. She might not be who you wish her to be."
"Yes, I know." Kenneth gulped and said lancholically, "I have kept my hopes at rock bottom. I an… even if she is indeed my birthmother, there's no guarantee that she will be willing to recognize as her son, especially since I was abandoned at birth."
Kenneth looked down and mumbled after letting out a scoff. "I an, she wouldn't have abandoned in the first place if she wanted , right?"
Damien didn't know what to say to Kenneth to make him feel better. He would have loved to say that no mother would willingly abandon their children.
However, at the sa ti, he didn't want to give false hope and comfort to Kenneth, just to see it crumble a while later if the woman they were after had indeed abandoned Kenneth for so selfish reason.
Thus, he simply drew in a deep breath and then led the way toward the village. "Co. Let's find her and ask her directly."
Kenneth rubbed his cold palms together and put them inside the pockets of his trouser before following Damien.
The well-dressed gentlen soon began drawing attention from the villagers.
Just like how the people in the tavern had reacted to their presence, so of the old and middle-aged n of the village were also reacting in the sa way when their eyes fell on the red-eyed man with blond hair. Though it was unintentional, they had a subtle hostility being reflected in their faces.
Damien, unaware of the aurae that were lingering around him, approached one of those n who was standing by the side of the road and then asked, "Excuse , do you know soone who goes by the na Scarlett?"
Unlike what Damien had expected, that man gave a look that clearly showed his disinterest in having any conversation at all and then went inside a shop nearby.
Kenneth stood by Damien's side and said after heaving a sigh, "I don't think they like our presence here."
"Wow… Umm…" Damien pursed his lips and agreed with Kenneth, "Yeah. In my head, I had imagined that conversation going perfectly. I don't know why I was expecting to get a different reaction when we had already seen those n acting exactly like this in that tavern."
"Let's ask soone else. Co." Kenneth wasn't going to give up just because of one bad reaction. This ti, he took the lead.
After walking for a few minutes, Kenneth saw a shop around which young won were gathering, looking at a man who was displaying pieces of expensive fabrics to them.
"I wonder if any one of them knows her," Kenneth thought to himself as he began to walk towards those won at a faster pace.
Unlike the old n, the young won had a different reaction toward the strangers. As Damien and Kenneth approached closer to the shop, they couldn't help but look at those gentlen with eyes full of curiosity and lust.
"Oh my god! Who are they? They look so handso! Look!" one of the young won pinched her friend and pointed her brows at the gentlen.
Her friend also readily agreed with her. "Oh, dear lord! You are right! Who are they? Are they angels who just fell down from heaven?"
Damien, who was obviously listening to those whispers, couldn't help but mockingly smirk. "Quite the opposite actually," he mumbled to Kenneth as he caught Kenneth giving him a side look and smiling.
Since the won were fawning all over them, Kenneth thought that they wouldn't have any problem with his appearance and would answer him. So, he thought of questioning them.
The won started elbowing and pinching each other in excitent when Kenneth approached them.
"He's looking at us! He's coming over here!" one of them whispered with a shaky breath.
Kenneth stopped in front of those hyper-excited won and greeted them with an enchanting smile while Damien decided to watch from the side.
Needless to say, the won were ready to surrender to that handso man right then and there after witnessing such a divine smile.
Kenneth locked his eyes with one of the ladies and then asked her in an ever so polite voice, "I was wondering if you knew a woman nad Scarlett. I heard she lived in this village but unfortunately, this is my first ti here so…"
That lady wasn't paying any attention to a word that Kenneth was asking. All that she could focus on was his lips which looked very pink and kissable at the mont because of the chilly weather. Enjoy exclusive content from My Virtual Library Empire
When Kenneth didn't get his answer from that lady, he pressed his lips together into a thin line and looked at other ladies who too were hypnotized by him. "Do any of you know her? Scarlett?"
"I-Is she your lo-lover by any chance?" another lady stuttered while tightly clutching her friend's arm and almost digging her nails into that poor lady.
All the other ladies giggled when they heard that question. The shopkeeper, on the other hand, was agitated because nobody was looking at his fabrics anymore.
Another lady stood right in front of Kenneth and asked while giving a big smile, "Co on. Don't be shy, Milord." She pulled the lady who had questioned Kenneth earlier and asked again, "My friend here wants to know who this Scarlett is. Is she your lover? If she's not, I bet you can find soone right here."
A peal of laughter resounded throughout the village; the ladies were starting to get more and more comfortable in making such remarks and getting closer to the poor gentleman.
"Umm…" Kenneth looked away in discomfort when the won began to swarm around him as if he was so showpiece.
Seeing the discomfort in Kenneth's eyes, Damien finally decided to step in. He put his arm around Kenneth's shoulder and pulled him back so that the ladies wouldn't start touching and flirting with Kenneth.
"Ladies!" Damien smiled at them so as not to look impolite. But his tone said sothing else. "My friend here is a little shy. So, I will answer in his stead."
"First of all, no, she is not his lover. Secondly, we are in a hurry. So, I am going to ask again." Damien cleared his throat and then continued when all the ladies beca quiet, "We are looking for a middle-aged woman who goes by the na Scarlett. If you know anyone by that na, we would be delighted to know her address."
"Scarlett, huh?" one of the won mumbled and looked around at her friends. "Does anyone know her?" she asked, hoping that her friends would speak up if they knew.
