Damien also felt his heart clenching when he saw Joyce breaking down into tears.
Until now, Damien hadn't seen his mother shedding tears for her late daughter. She had only ntioned about Mackenzie in the passing. So Damien hadn't really felt any kind of pain or loss towards his half-sister, that was until now.
Upon seeing Joyce crying her eyes out for soone whom she had never t or heard about, Damien was saddened by Mackenzie's death for the first ti in his life. Enjoy new tales from empire
"Joy…" he dragged his chair closer to Joyce. He wiped her tears and consolingly said, "Joy… please don't cry. It happened a long ti ago. I won't say that my mom and King Lucifer have already forgotten about Mackenzie, but I guess her death doesn't hurt as much as it did back then."
Joyce covered her face with both of her palms and then whispered, "I'm sorry. I didn't an to ruin the mood. I don't know why I am crying like this."
Vlad ca and knelt in front of his wife. He took her palms in his hand.
And while lovingly caressing the back of her hand, he looked at Damien and said, "I think I know why she is crying. It has been quite so ti now that she has been living as Mackenzie in her dreams. She wakes up scared and devastated every ti because she says everything feels very real."
Ariel made Joyce rest her head on her shoulder. She lovingly caressed Joyce's hair and said in a saddened voice, "I'm so sorry you had to go through that, Joy. You didn't deserve to have such a recurring nightmare."
Damien was trying to make sense of what Joyce was going through. What he didn't understand was why Joyce was seeing that event of the past in her dream. And why it was a recurring dream?
He looked at Joyce and asked all the questions that he had in his mind so that everyone else could ponder upon them, and hopefully, get so answers.
"Why would you be in Mackenzie's body? And why would you see that battle? Why now? Does it have any hidden aning? Is that dream trying to point at sothing specific that might affect the future?"
Joyce lifted her head from Ariel's shoulder. She sniffled and spoke, "I don't know if that dream has any future implications now that I know it has already happened. But…" Her first suspicion regarding why she was having that nightmare was the Zobekker plant. She lifted that capsule from her neck and softly said, "I bet it was this thing's dirty trick."
Damien suddenly covered his mouth with his palm and then leaned back on his chair.
"What's it?" Ariel instantly asked Damien upon seeing him looking like he knew sothing.
"That plant!" Damien looked at Joyce and Ariel with a serious look on his face. "You both rember how they are infamous for torturing their victims with their worst mories before finally sucking out their souls, right?"
"It sucks the soul?" Vlad looked at Damien with wide eyes and asked in fear, "So, she is having nightmares because that plant is sucking on her soul?"
Before Damien could answer Vlad, Zach shot him with another question, "Wait! Are you implying that she wasn't having nightmares but she was seeing her past mories?"
"I am suspecting the sa!" Damien clapped his hands when soone else was thinking what he was thinking.
The others, however, didn't know what the two of them were talking about.
Joyce scrunched her brows together and innocently said, "But those aren't my past mories."
Damien leaned closer to Joyce again. He was now smiling ear to ear even when Joyce's eyes were still wet. And he said with excitent, "Those might not be your past mories, but it is very possible that they were the past mories of your soul."
It was now Ariel's turn to lean back and cover her mouth.
"No way!" The twins shouted in cohesion.
"I'm so glad to be here right now," Grace did little claps and said to her cousin.
And Kenneth nodded and replied without taking his eyes off Joyce, "And I am glad as well."
"W-What are you implying?" Joyce finally caught up to what everyone was thinking about her at the mont. She scoffed and asked skeptically, "A-Are you trying to say that I was… that I was her?"
"Yes! That IS possible!" Damien was high on the moon thinking that the one whom he had thought of as a sister since childhood could actually be his half-sister. "You might be Mackenzie's reincarnation."
Joyce furrowed her brows and gave an awkward smile. "Just because I dreamt about her a few tis doesn't an that I was her in my previous life."
The young witch was definitely not ready to believe that she was the daughter of the Devil and the Demoness in her past life.
So, she put forth another possible explanation, "Maybe, as I had suspected, that dream is trying to say sothing about the future. Maybe the history is going to repeat itself or sothing like that?"
"It could be. It could be." Damien nodded. And then he asked, "You always wear that plant around your neck?"
Joyce agreed. "Yes. Before, I used to put this around my neck because I felt like it. But now, it has beco an inseparable part of . Even if I try to take it off, it will appear near in no ti."
"Hmm... those are so nasty plants, aren't they? We will have to do sothing about it." Damien sounded concerned. And after listening to Joyce, Damien explained why he was thinking Joyce was the reincarnation of his half-sister.
"You've been exposed to that plant for a very long ti. That plant might not have done anything bad to you like sucking your soul, but maybe it unlocked your soul's mories. Zobekkers can sotis extract their victim's past mories that are engrained in their soul. And my guess is... it did the sa to you."
