Chapter 57: Chapter 57 – The Husband

For several days in a row, the weather had started to cool as autumn set in.

Even though Shen Heyu had suspicions in her heart, she had no evidence to directly point the finger. She had been searching for the past few days but still had not found any clues.

She was ntally exhausted, and with the weather turning colder, she had not taken care to dress accordingly to her body’s needs, which resulted in a slight fever.

That morning, as Shen Heyu got up, she only felt her head was heavy and in pain. She thought it was a side effect of sleeping with the covers over her head, so she didn’t think much of it.

After freshening up, she went downstairs for breakfast and saw Pei Yansi already sitting at the dining table. He looked up at her, frowning, and asked, “Are you not feeling well?”

Her face was deathly pale, without a hint of color.

...

Shen Heyu replied, “No, I just feel a bit dizzy, maybe I didn’t get enough oxygen last night because I slept with the covers over my head.”

“If you’re not feeling well, you should see a doctor by yourself.”

Pei Yansi had only asked casually. She herself wasn’t taking it seriously, and he cared even less.

After he finished his al, he left for the company first.

Shen Heyu felt quite unwell and took a long ti to finish breakfast. Feeling too dizzy to drive, she had the family driver take her to the company.

As she exited the car, a gust of autumn wind blew right at her.

The cold wind sent shivers down her spine, causing almost every pore to constrict in an instant. Shen Heyu instinctively wrapped her arms around herself, trying to prevent further loss of body warmth.

With her head feeling unbearably heavy, she entered the office.

As soon as she stepped in, she heard Yun Duo calling out from behind, “Director Shen, co quick! The financial report for last quarter is out!”

“Is that so? That was fast?”

Shen Heyu replied weakly, turning around to join and look, but as she turned, she suddenly felt a sharp pain in her head and her vision went dark.

All consciousness seed to fade away in that mont. Her legs went limp, and she fainted into a prolonged darkness.

Right before she lost consciousness completely, she seed to hear Yun Duo’s cry of alarm…

Pei Yansi was preparing to personally go to the construction site to look for clues, as he was told by Zhao Jin that there were no surveillance caras, nothing at all, and he had to go there himself.

However, as soon as he left his office, he heard Yun Duo’s alard voice, “Ah, Director Shen? Director Shen has fainted!”

Pei Yansi’s heart sank. The person he never used to pay attention to made his heart race excessively in that mont.

He quickly stepped forward and approached Shen Heyu’s office, just in ti to see Lin Yiran anxiously lifting Shen Heyu from the ground.

It looked like he intended to carry her down to the car and take her to the hospital.

Pei Yansi stepped forward, glaring coldly at him, and said, “Give her to .” Was his person soone they could just touch casually?

Those around were rarely exposed to such an aura from him, cold and sharp, making people subconsciously want to avoid it.

Lin Yiran imdiately handed over Shen Heyu, who was in his arms.

Pei Yansi held her in his arms, and even through the semi-thick autumn clothes, he could feel the heat emanating from her body.

He looked down at her pale face, realizing that she had a high fever. Yet, she acted as if nothing was wrong, attributing feeling sick to a lack of oxygen because she slept covered.

Holding her tightly, he left with long strides, inwardly scolding her for not taking care of herself. At her age, she should be more responsible for her own health.

But then, thinking back to how he had told her that morning to see a doctor if she felt unwell, he found his current thoughts odd.

He shouldn’t be thinking this way. He should let her see the doctor on her own. If she didn’t care for her health, she might as well die outside.

Although he was thinking this, as soon as he put her in the car, he slamd on the accelerator.

The half-hour ride to the hospital, Pei Yansi raced through in just around ten minutes, arriving with Shen Heyu.

Shen Heyu was quickly taken into the treatnt room. It was just a high fever, so the doctor put her on an IV drip, gave so care instructions, and then prepared to leave.

Pei Yansi stopped him and asked, “How could she faint from a high fever?”

The doctor explained, “The patient is too weak, it seems like her nutrition hasn’t been keeping up, she’s underweight and very frail, so that’s what caused this condition.”

Pei Yansi heard this as if it was so kind of joke, his thin lips curling up into a cold arc.

But that arc was sowhat sinister and bizarre, making the doctor pause, feeling as if his hair was standing on end, and he quickly left without daring to stay any longer.

Once the doctor was gone, Pei Yansi closed the door of the ward, sat by the bed, and watched Shen Heyu who was still unconscious with the IV drip.

Wouldn’t the world laugh its teeth off if it got out that the distinguished Mrs. Pei was actually suffering from poor nutrition?

Was it his Pei Family mistreating her?

She could make him a laughingstock.

Pei Yansi took out his phone, originally intending to call Zhao Jin, but fearing he would disturb Shen Heyu, he chose to send a ssage instead, instructing him to buy more nutritious supplents for the house, particularly nutritional products, and to personally interview four or five nutritionists.

He wanted to see if with such arrangents she would still be malnourished. Unfortunately, Zhao Jin there seed to have a brain cramp, replying back with a ssage: “Is it that Mrs. Pei isn’t getting enough nutrition?”

Zhao Jin had followed Pei Yansi for many years, of course, he knew Shen Heyu’s status.

Pei Yansi frowned as he read his ssage, replying, “You can tell that?”

“Pretty obvious…”

“Get lost.”

Pei Yansi pressed his temples irritably.

He was too embarrassed to let anyone know that in the grand Pei Family, it seed as if they weren’t even feeding her properly, even Zhao Jin could see it… Others would probably realize it too. Thinking this, Pei Yansi felt unable to save face.

As he was thinking, he heard Shen Heyu’s phone ringing.

Worried about disturbing her, he quickly retrieved her phone and turned it to silent. He hadn’t intended to invade her privacy, but a casual glance revealed the na ‘Shen Jiangli.’

He rembered that was the man he had ordered Zhao Jin to investigate last ti, Shen Jiangli.

Shen Jiangli, who had even made a special effort to collaborate with him to get closer to her.

At that thought, Pei Yansi’s gaze darkened, and he took her phone and stepped out of the ward.

He answered the call only after reaching the hallway.

“Heyu, when are you getting off work tonight? I’ve found a really fun place, I’ll co to pick you up!” Shen Jiangli’s tone was full of barely concealed excitent.

This contrasted sharply with Pei Yansi’s cold voice, “President Shen seems quite free?”

“Who is this?” Shen Jiangli sounded surprised, “Why do you have Heyu’s phone, where is she?” His tone grew agitated, wondering why a man answered Shen Heyu’s phone.

Pei Yansi spoke with a heavy voice, “I’m her husband; it would be best if President Shen kept a certain distance from her in the future. Otherwise, don’t bla for not being polite.”

After saying that, he didn’t give the other party a chance to respond and hung up the call.

Shen Jiangli was left baffled on the other end. Husband?

He abruptly rembered that when they first t, Shen Heyu had said she was already married…
