Chapter 53: Chapter 53: Cold War
Wealthy people always have a few peculiar habits; it was no secret that he would be able to find out his own workplace.
As for taking the initiative to follow up, Shen Heyu didn’t think much of it and treated it all as part of her normal work.
Because she had followed up on a new project with the Shen Group, Shen Heyu’s life had beco busy, and since the last inexplicable argunt with Pei Yansi, they had hardly returned ho together.
Either he returned ho while she was still busy, beca impatient with no one to wait for, and left on his own, or she went ho, but he did not.
By their calculation, it had been almost half a month since they had seen each other at ho.
Due to her work, Shen Heyu almost saw Shen Jiangli every day, and they beca increasingly familiar with each other to the point where they could talk about anything.
...
As the project with him progressed and beca busier, needing more hands, Shen Heyu, as the director, of course, had the authority to allocate staff to help. She thought of Lin Yiran, who had co to learn.
Lin Yiran was very talented.
At lunchti, Shen Heyu no longer had ti to go out to eat and went to the company cafeteria instead, where she happened to see Lin Yiran sitting alone at a distance.
She got her al and sat opposite him, saying, “Lin Yiran?”
“Director Shen?” Lin Yiran also called out to her.
“I’ve been working on a project with the Shen Group recently; you know about this, right?”
“Yes, what about it?”
“I need to add a person here, and I think you’re quite good. Why don’t you consider coming over to work together? It would also help you learn better.”
“Really?”
Lin Yiran was thrilled, his eyes sparkling with excitent. He had heard early on about Shen Jiangli’s achievents at a young age—at not even twenty-seven, he had managed his family’s branch company with great efficiency.
He had always wanted to learn from him.
Shen Heyu smiled and said, “Of course, do you think I would lie to you?”
“Thank you, Director Shen, I’ll definitely work hard!” His face bead with joy. To those around them, the two seed to be talking and laughing as if they were very familiar with each other.
When Pei Yansi ca down, he happened to witness this scene. He had also been very busy lately and had planned to eat in the cafeteria when he saw this scene that completely ruined his appetite.
In the end, he didn’t enter the cafeteria but turned around and went back to his office, asking Zhao Jin to go out and buy a al for him.
While waiting, he rested his hands behind his head and leaned back in his chair, his mind filled with the scene he had just witnessed.
Shen Heyu was talking and laughing with that Lin Yiran, and seeing him laugh so shyly made Pei Yansi feel sothing was wrong.
Did she enjoy flirting so much?
Did his status as her husband seem nonexistent to her?
As he thought about it, his phone on the desk rang. He glanced at the caller ID and saw it was his grandmother.
He pressed to answer, and as expected, it started as he had guessed, “What’s going on with you and Heyu lately? I haven’t seen the two of you together at the dining table for a long ti.”
Pei Yansi frowned and said, “Grandma, can you please not ddle in our affairs?”
“You make it sound nice, but how can I not ddle? If I don’t, you would quickly let hold a great-grandson! I’ve been bothered enough by having grandsons. Only then will I have no ti to worry about you!”
“Besides, you’re the man, and she’s the woman. Can’t you just give in to her a little, pamper her a bit, get her to cling to you a bit?”
Pei Yansi scoffed when he heard this, suspecting that she probably didn’t need him anyway. He said, “She’s surrounded by a lot of people. If I went, wouldn’t I just be superfluous?”
His tone carried a few unmistakably sour notes.
After he finished speaking, he heard Zhao Jin returning outside. He said, “Alright, old man, don’t worry too much, I’m hanging up.”
He hung up the phone first.
*
Shen Heyu had dinner with Lin Yiran and then they went to supervise the construction site together.
The site was a chaotic mix, and when the two arrived during the busy period, no one was there to receive them.
The person in charge was also not on-site.
The two walked into the construction area one after the other.
Lin Yiran followed behind Shen Heyu. She had only walked a few steps when she suddenly heard a noise above their heads.
Shen Heyu clearly heard it too. She looked up and saw a steel bar falling from the high rise, heading straight for where she was standing.
She was stunned for a mont, but quickly tried to move aside when Lin Yiran, acting faster, lunged forward and pushed her harshly to one side.
With a loud thud, Shen Heyu was pushed to the ground by Lin Yiran, who fell on top of her, shielding her with his body. At the sa ti, the steel bar smashed down heavily.
The bar had sohow changed trajectory mid-fall, having initially been avoided; it now crashed down, hitting Lin Yiran squarely on the arm.
Lin Yiran let out a pained grunt and then his complexion turned white.
Shen Heyu was in a panic, quickly pushing him off her to the side and anxiously shouted, “Are you alright? I’ll take you to the hospital. Just hang in there!”
She was extrely anxious; incidents of falling steel bars killing people were common on construction sites. If they hadn’t dodged just now, they would have definitely died right there.
Workers nearby heard the commotion and ca down to check, and seeing the situation, rushed forward to help. Eventually, Shen Heyu and a few others managed to get Lin Yiran to the hospital.
Lin Yiran was delivered in ti; his arm was broken but was reattached successfully by the orthopedic surgeon after surgery.
However, he was temporarily unable to move that arm.
Feeling guilty, Shen Heyu made soup the next day and went to visit him. She ran into Shen Jiangli just as she arrived at the hospital.
She was a bit surprised and asked, “What are you doing here?”
Shen Jiangli responded, “As a partner in this work, I felt it was necessary to co and check in. After all, caring for our employees is what helps us grow together.”
He glanced at the lunchbox in her hand and asked, “Did you make it yourself?”
She nodded, “He did help , after all. I couldn’t just do nothing, and store-bought nutrition just doesn’t show sincerity.”
“Alright, you go see him first, I’ll drive you back later.”
Shen Heyu agreed, carrying the lunchbox inside. She didn’t stay long, put down the items, exchanged a few pleasantries, and then left.
Shen Jiangli was waiting for her outside, and they walked down side by side.
Shen Jiangli’s car was parked at the roadside. She got into the passenger seat, and since she still had to go to the office, she ended up asking him to drop her off at the Pei Family’s place.
After Shen Heyu got out of the car, she headed straight to her office since she had hardly worked properly for two days due to Lin Yiran’s injury.
As soon as she entered the president’s office, she saw Bai Sheng’er and a group of people gathered in the rest area, chattering about sothing.
