There was no choice, Shen Heyu could only take Pei Yansi with her to the police station to give a testimony.
From Shen Heyu’s perspective, the whole thing started when Chen Wenzhou contacted her, instructing her to hurry to a specific presidential suite at the Crown Hotel within an hour.
When Shen Heyu arrived at the hotel suite, at first, she didn’t notice anything unusual. She made small talk with Chen Wenzhou before he finally asked her to look inside the room.
Suspecting sothing was fishy, Shen Heyu tested Chen Wenzhou several tis, but found nothing suspicious. Only then, with caution, did she open the door.
Upon opening the door, Shen Heyu saw Lu Yi and a woman nad Xiao Hua, both disheveled on the bed, and from the clothes strewn around the room and the ssy bed sheets, she knew what had happened there.
When Lu Yi saw Shen Heyu appear, he first lashed out at Chen Wenzhou. At the mont, Shen Heyu felt sothing was off, and looking back now, Lu Yi’s reaction was indeed strange.
However, Lu Yi only cursed at Chen Wenzhou angrily before dropping the matter, leaving Shen Heyu unable to deduce the significance behind Lu Yi’s anger. Then, Lu Yi knelt down and begged Shen Heyu for forgiveness, but she didn’t agree.
Xiao Hua tried to force Lu Yi and Shen Heyu apart, aiming to use the incident to marry into wealth and fulfill her dream, but Lu Yi was tough; he made no concessions.
In desperation, Xiao Hua took extre action and even threatened Lu Yi with her life, but even as she was about to jump, Lu Yi did not yield.
This was the sequence of events Shen Heyu witnessed. After recording her testimony, the police let Shen Heyu leave, as she had an important question she still needed to ask them.
“Was what you said earlier true?” Shen Heyu calmly looked at the officer in front of her.
“Which statent?”
“Lu Yi accused of driving Xiao Hua to her death, is that true?” Earlier, when she was in Pei Yansi’s house, Shen Heyu had wanted to ask this question, but she had just woken up and her mind was still unclear. Now that she was alert, she wanted to confirm she hadn’t misheard.
“It is indeed true, we have Lu Yi’s statent on record.”
A pale smile crossed Shen Heyu’s face as she stood up, “Thank you.”
Shen Heyu turned to leave the police station, she looked up at the dark sky outside, and felt a wave of dizziness when suddenly, a pair of arms erged from behind her to steady her.
“I’ve had your favorite foods prepared, let’s go back and eat sothing,” Pei Yansi took off his suit jacket and draped it over Shen Heyu’s shoulders, noticing how much thinner she had beco, even her face seeming to have lost weight.
“I appreciate you bringing back and speaking up for , but this matter doesn’t concern you, and I don’t want to drag you into it.”
Shen Heyu lowered her eyelashes and took a step back, instinctively keeping her distance from Pei Yansi, who watched helplessly as she stepped out of his reach.
“Shen Heyu, how much longer will you keep this up?” Pei Yansi looked at her with concern.
Shen Heyu raised her head and mustered a feeble, pale smile, “Mr. Pei, I don’t understand what you an by that. This ti, I owe you a favor, and I’ll make sure to repay it, but I have other matters to attend to now, and I hope you won’t stop .”
“You’re going to find Lu Yi,” Pei Yansi guessed Shen Heyu’s next move.
Shen Heyu didn’t speak; her silence was an admission. Pei Yansi took a step forward and grasped Shen Heyu’s cold hand.
“I warned you long ago to be careful with Lu Yi. People are not necessarily faithful forever, and they can be very complex.”
“Are you delighting in my misfortune now, trying to confirm that your warning was right?” This ti, Shen Heyu didn’t pull away from Pei Yansi’s grasp.
“I didn’t an that. Shen Heyu, I want you to be happier than anyone else, and I want to be the one to give you that happiness.” Pei Yansi looked at her deeply, and Shen Heyu studied the expression on his face.
“I appreciate that you are still consoling during tis like this.”
“I’m not just consoling you, I’m being serious. If you want to go confront Lu Yi, I’ll go with you. Considering what’s happened these past two days, I think there’s a lot of suspiciousness between Lu Yi and Chen Wenzhou. It’s very likely that they’ve colluded.”
“I don’t feel comfortable with you going to find Lu Yi by yourself.”
Shen Heyu’s lips curled weakly yet charmingly as she briefly smiled.
“I never thought that at this point, I would rely on my ex-husband to pull myself out of the mire.” Shen Heyu laughed self-deprecatingly, and Pei Yansi, with a heartache, wrapped his arms around her and gently patted her back.
As he held Shen Heyu, his tender and husky voice resonated next to her ear, each word he said slowly pouring into her like warm water.
He told Shen Heyu, “My feelings for you are genuine. I loved you in the wrong way before, but I will definitely correct my mistakes in the future.”
“I hope to grow old with you, watching Yuexue grow up together.”
Feeling the warmth of Pei Yansi’s embrace, Shen Heyu’s lips slowly curved upward, this ti not with a bitter or self-deprecating smile, but a relieved one.

Pei Yansi and Shen Heyu went back to Lu Yi’s house together.

Seeing that Pei Yansi had brought Shen Heyu ho late at night, Lu Yi felt uncomfortable inside. He approached Shen Heyu with an upset face and questioned her in a harsh tone.
“Heyu, look at the ti! Why would you let another man bring you ho so late at night? You could have called , and I would have co to pick you up.”
Lu Yi stared intently at Shen Heyu as if he were a hungry wolf guarding a juicy piece of at on its plate, fearful that soone else might covet and steal it.
Shen Heyu observed Lu Yi’s heartfelt anger mismatched with possessiveness, then she chuckled before abruptly slapping him across the face.

The slap nearly stunned Lu Yi, and he stared at Shen Heyu in disbelief, “Heyu, do you know what you are doing?”
“That’s sothing I should be asking you. Do you even know what you are doing?”
