“President Pei, I know I shouldn’t say this, but over the years, I’ve mainly dealt with work-related matters for you and very little personal stuff.”
“Just from what I know about you, you are impeccable at work and exceptionally capable; over the years, nurous won have shown interest in you, but you’ve always kept yourself pure.”
“Your professionalism is beyond reproach, and I have no right to comnt on your personal life. However, as a man looking at the situation of his beloved woman wanting to leave, I must say there’s definitely a problem, or maybe she hasn’t felt your love for her.”
Zhao Jin spoke sincerely, and Pei Yansi instinctively sat upright, his brow furrowed in deep thought.
“Do you think there’s still a chance to turn this situation around?”
“President Pei, this is just my personal opinion, but if madam knows how much you love her, she will definitely reconsider your relationship. It all depends on whether you’re willing to take that step.”
“As long as I can keep her, even if it ans lowering my head to her, what does it matter?”
During these months since Shen Heyu left Pei Yansi, he had thought over and over again, dreaming almost every night of the woman he loved.
If he could bring Shen Heyu back to his side, Pei Yansi was ready to humble himself for love.
“Since you’ve decided to open up and have a sincere talk with madam, and it’s getting late, you should go upstairs and rest.”
Pei Yansi stood up, his clothes reeking of smoke.
Although Pei Yansi went back to his room, he did not sleep that night. He stayed awake until dawn broke.
The next morning, Pei Yansi and Shen Heyu opened their doors almost at the sa ti.
“How did you sleep last night?” Pei Yansi asked, looking at Shen Heyu’s unmade-up face, as pristine as a lotus flower erging from water.
“Did you find anyone to check on Lu Yi’s safety last night? Is he alright?” Shen Heyu did not respond to Pei Yansi’s question and imdiately brought up Lu Yi.
Pei Yansi frowned unexpectedly.
It felt as if a needle had pierced his heart, the pain causing him to furrow his brows tightly.
“I had soone check on his safety. Don’t worry, he’s fine,” Pei Yansi said reluctantly.
Shen Heyu took out her phone and called Lu Yi, making several calls before getting through.
In a worried voice, she called out, “Lu Yi, why was your phone off when I called last night? Do you know how worried I was all night? Did you wait for the rescue yesterday?”
Walking behind Shen Heyu, Pei Yansi abruptly stopped, watching her back as it moved further away from him.
“I’m sorry for making you worry. The rescue arrived, and I’m all fine. What about you? You went back to that place; did that bastard do anything to you? If he mistreated you, you must tell ; I won’t let him get away with it.”
Relieved to hear Lu Yi was unhard, Shen Heyu let out a sigh of relief.
“Don’t worry, he didn’t do anything to . Right now, I’m just concerned about your safety. But why does your voice sound hoarse? Did sothing happen?”
“I drank too much last night and woke up with a headache and a hoarse voice. Don’t worry, I’m all good; the important thing is that you’re safe.”
Shen Heyu gripped her phone harder when she heard Lu Yi say he had been drinking all night.
“You’re not usually one to drink, why did you binge last night? Drink less in the future; too much alcohol is harmful to your health.”
Pei Yans stood still, watching Shen Heyu walk farther and farther away, her voice drifting into the distance, but he still distinctly heard her words of concern for Lu Yi.
Those words were like invisible swords piercing his heart, the pain almost bringing him to his knees.
The person on the other side of the phone smiled slightly, “This ti was an exception. I will heed your advice. Don’t worry; I won’t drink that much again. Even if it’s just to not worry you, I will control my emotions.”
“That’s good to hear. You drank so much last night; you must have a light diet today and take good care of yourself. I’ll be back in three days.”
“Okay, I’ll wait for you.”
After exchanging a few more words, Shen Heyu hung up. As she unconsciously walked into the dining room and saw the lavish breakfast on the table, she was startled.
She had been completely absorbed in the phone call and had not watched where she was going, not expecting to end up in the dining room by muscle mory alone.
It was too late when she got ho last night, and now it was day. Carefully observing her surroundings, she discovered that the villa was maintained just as she had left it, with absolutely no changes.
“Let’s eat.”
It was only after standing there for a long ti that Pei Yans ca downstairs.
His complexion looked slightly off, and he frowned slightly as he pulled out a chair and sat down across from Shen Heyu.
Shen Heyu also sat down, but the atmosphere between them was sowhat strange; she kept avoiding eye contact with Pei Yans.
She quietly ate her breakfast.
“Even though you left for a few months, your habits haven’t changed; you still like these breakfast items,” Pei Yans quietly watched Shen Heyu eat her breakfast, each mont an enjoynt for him.
“People’s habits don’t change overnight; it takes ti. If you see again in six months, the Shen Heyu you knew might have beco soone else.”
Pei Yans’s lips ford a thin line.
“I won’t let you leave for that long.”
Hearing this, Shen Heyu suddenly lost her appetite and put down her chopsticks to look at Pei Yans.
“What do you an by that? We agreed that you would let leave after three days; surely President Pei wouldn’t go back on his word.”
“I know you want to leave now, but today is only the first day. You still have two days left before you leave; we’ll talk about this in two days.”
“Pei Yans, I need to remind you, whether it’s good in two days or not, I must leave. No matter what you do, you can’t keep here.” After her stern words, Shen Heyu lowered her head and slowly ate her al.
Her words were like those of an executioner, killing without shedding blood.
Pei Yans felt as if a silent hole had been punctured in his heart, the wound silently bleeding out.
“Shen Heyu, I thought about a lot last night, all related to you.”
