Chapter 404: Chapter 404 Birthmark
“I rember now, that woman had a birthmark the size of a fingernail on her neck,” Wang Zhiqiang stamred out, his expression earnest, and he didn’t seem to be lying.
Hearing what he said, Pei Yansi and Zhao Jin exchanged a glance.
“How can you only tell us such important information now? Could it be that you have intentionally concealed this?”
Even though Zhao Jin had found the man himself, he couldn’t help but doubt his identity. Every matter had to be approached with the utmost caution; there could be no mistakes.
Faced with Zhao Jin’s doubt, Wang Zhiqiang seed even more panicked, even raising a hand to swear, “I only rembered this after being provoked by them this ti, I definitely didn’t an to conceal anything from you, I swear every word I say is true.”
“I’ll believe your words for now.”
After staring sharply at Wang Zhiqiang for three seconds, Pei Yansi finally spoke.
Wang Zhiqiang let out a long sigh of relief once Pei Yansi believed him, and lifting his hand, he gestured, “I rember the woman’s birthmark seed to be right behind her right ear, close to the neck.”
Zhao Jin glanced at Pei Yansi and, upon understanding his expression, said to Wang Zhiqiang, “You must have been frightened after being captured by their people yesterday. You should rest for now. We will assign more bodyguards to ensure your safety in this period and prevent any further harm. However, you need to be extra careful during this ti.”
Wang Zhiqiang nodded and followed the bodyguard out.
After they left, only Zhao Jin and Pei Yansi remained in the study.
“President, what should we do about this? Should we go confirm whether Chen Lingng has such a birthmark on her neck?” Zhao Jin’s face was stern.
There were already too many pieces of evidence that could prove that the woman in the car at the ti of the accident wasn’t Chen Lingng; it was very likely Chen Lingng had found another woman to play the role.
“There’s no need to confirm; she doesn’t have such a birthmark on her neck. Although we now have Wang Zhiqiang’s one-sided statent, we need to gather more evidence to prove that the woman in the car at the ti of the accident wasn’t Chen Lingng.”
Pei Yansi picked up his coffee and sipped the bitter brew.
“The last ti Wang Zhiqiang raised objections stating the woman in the car during the accident wasn’t Chen Lingng, I had people look into that woman’s whereabouts, but so far there’s been no information.”
The atmosphere in the study stiffened in an instant.
Just as the air turned exceptionally cold, a phone call broke the silence. Pei Yansi picked up his phone and saw that it was a call from Chen Lingng.
Seeing the change in Pei Yansi’s expression and the frown, Zhao Jin nodded knowingly, “President, I will excuse myself for now. Call on anyti you need assistance.”
After Zhao Jin left, Pei Yansi, frowning, stared at the flashing na on the screen, cald himself for a mont, and then answered Chen Lingng’s call.
“Brother Yan Si, Grandfather just told he wants to move up our engagent to this Saturday. What do you think?” Chen Lingng bit her lip slightly, her heart already in her throat, as she was anxious to marry Pei Yansi.
In such a hurry?
According to their agreed ti, their engagent banquet was set for early next month, still more than half a month away.
“Our agreed ti is next month; why suddenly move it to this week?” Pei Yansi, of course, wouldn’t so easily agree to the conditions they proposed.
The more they rushed to tie Pei Yansi and Chen Lingng together, the more it suggested there was sothing fishy.
“Grandfather says our relationship has been very steady recently, and the photos of us shopping together went viral online, sparking a lot of discussion and admiration, saying we are a match made in heaven. He thought we might as well ride this wave of popularity into a joyous union.”
Pei Yansi sneered.
“Recently, I’ve been very busy with governnt affairs, and I’m afraid I won’t be able to make ti this Saturday. Just proceed with the original schedule.”
There was no way a person like Pei Yansi would let them lead him by the nose.
“But, Brother Yansi, Grandpa said our engagent must be arranged for the Saturday after next. You don’t need to worry about anything; he’s prepared everything. You just need to attend.”
Everything was so ticulously prepared, the more so, the less he should easily compromise.
“I’ve said, I can’t make ti this Saturday; I won’t be able to attend.”
Chen Lingng couldn’t hold it in any longer after Pei Yansi’s cold refusal and almost bit through her lip.
“Brother Yansi, I’m about to be your wife, how can you be so heartless to ? Is work really more important to you than I am?” Chen Lingng began to make unreasonable demands.
“You know the answer to that yourself.”
Chen Lingng’s grip on her phone tightened, “Brother Yansi, I see you’ve not been busy with work recently, but rather busy investigating my car accident, right?”
“That ti you went shopping with and asked on the way whether I liked the blue dress, I thought you were interested in and wanted to know my preferences. I never imagined you were probing about the car accident.”
The veil had already been lifted.
And with that, there was no point in pretending any longer.
“That’s right, I am indeed investigating that car accident. You beca disabled for life because of it; don’t you want to know the whole truth?” Pei Yansi asked her calmly and composedly.
But Chen Lingng’s emotions couldn’t withstand such interrogation by Pei Yansi, and she showed signs of breaking down after just a few words.
“Brother Yansi, I don’t want you to keep digging into the car accident, stop investigating it,” Chen Lingng all but shrieked.
Pei Yansi’s gaze turned icy in a mont.
“Why don’t you want to continue investigating? Is there more to the car accident than ets the eye?”
Chen Lingng clenched her teeth; she simply didn’t dare answer Pei Yansi’s question.
Chen Lingng, on the verge of an emotional breakdown, looked up at Chen Wenzhou standing beside her.
Chen Wenzhou reached out, and Chen Lingng handed him the phone.
“Pei Yansi, Chen Lingng was the victim of that car accident, and it left her with lifelong trauma. She doesn’t want you to investigate it; she just doesn’t want to face her scars. Why do you have to be so aggressive?”
“The way you’re treating her doesn’t look like you’re interacting with a woman you’re about to marry; it’s more like you’re confronting an enemy.”
“If what you’re doing to her gets out, I’m afraid all those fans who shipped you two as a couple might turn on you and attack you. If this isn’t handled properly, it could affect the image of your company.”
Chen Wenzhou ca fully prepared.
Pei Yansi let out a sneer, “Are you threatening ?”
