“Beep beep beep beep…”
Chen Lingng hadn’t finished speaking when Pei Yansi hung up directly on her. Biting her teeth and pouting in frustration, her temper flared up, and she tossed her phone onto the table.
Chen Wenzhou had just walked in when he heard a loud clatter. He approached Chen Lingng with an expression devised to coax her.
“The wedding’s soon and you’ll be the most beautiful bride. Who’s got you upset enough to throw your phone like that?” Chen Wenzhou moved closer, glanced at the phone’s screen which hadn’t gone dark yet, and saw that the last call had been from Pei Yansi.
Chen Lingng sulked, pursed her lips, and puffed her cheeks like a pufferfish, not saying a word. It was obvious to anyone that she was fuming.
“Who else could it be? I just asked Brother Yan Si who he thought was prettier between and Shen Heyu. Guess what he told ?”
Chen Lingng cared deeply about whose side Pei Yansi would take between her and Shen Heyu, but the answer now seed clear – his heart obviously leaned towards Shen Heyu.
Chen Wenzhou chuckled.
“Are you even my brother at this point? At a ti like this, you can still manage to laugh? Pei Yansi is bullying , do you have to bully , too?” Chen Lingng got even angrier, losing any desire to try on wedding dresses.
“ngng, you’re about to marry him, and as for Shen Heyu, she’s just history to him now. For a man, after all, Shen Heyu gave birth to his child, and they were together for three years; it’s natural that so feelings would remain.”
Chen Lingng reacted strongly to his words, raising her hand to cover her ears, resisting listening to Chen Wenzhou’s rationale.
“Are you really my brother, or are you Shen Heyu’s brother? Even at this ti, it’s bad enough that you’re not supporting , but you’re actually siding with Shen Heyu. I’m going to tell Grandpa you’re elbowing out.” Chen Lingng often used their grandfather to pressure him, and this tactic was always effective.
Chen Wenzhou quickly tried to reassure her with a laugh, “ngng, that’s not what I an. Of course, I’m your brother. I’m just trying to help you understand what might be going through Pei Yansi’s mind. What’s important is that you’ve won him over; the key is to win his heart.”
“How can I win his heart?” Chen Lingng was genuinely concerned about this question, her eyes lit up as she looked at Chen Wenzhou.
“Pei Yansi’s lingering feelings for Shen Heyu are normal. Give him so ti. You’re going to marry him after all, and you have a lifeti ahead to gradually replace Shen Heyu in his heart. This matter can’t be rushed.” Chen Wenzhou ant well, but he didn’t know how much of his advice Chen Lingng would take to heart.

“But I’m a little scared…” Chen Lingng idly fiddled with her fingernails.
Chen Wenzhou didn’t need her to say it; he understood her intimately, having lived under the sa roof for so many years – how could he not read her little concerns?
He reached out and affectionately patted her head, “ngng, don’t be scared. You have to have confidence in yourself. Pei Yansi and Shen Heyu are over, and he’s about to marry you. You’re the winner. You need to have confidence in yourself and in Pei Yansi too.”
“Winning Pei Yansi’s heart is sothing that should be taken slowly; rushing won’t help. What if you push him too hard and he ends up reminiscing about Shen Heyu’s good traits?”
Chen Lingng listened seriously to Chen Wenzhou’s words and nodded, feeling as if they made a lot of sense.
“Brother, you’re right, I won’t keep pressuring Pei Yansi anymore.”
“That’s more like it,” smiled Chen Wenzhou, satisfied that his effort hadn’t been in vain.
In fact, Chen Wenzhou had another reason for seeking out Chen Lingng.
Ever since Pei Yansi had brought a bodyguard with a very elusive presence and a sowhat familiar face to his ho, he had been preoccupied day and night, trying to recall where he had seen that man.
“ngng, I’ve got sothing to ask you, but you must keep it a secret from everyone, especially Pei Yansi. You can’t let him know even a single word.”
Chen Wenzhou looked at Chen Lingng with a grave expression that silently conveyed the seriousness of the matter.
Chen Lingng was taken aback for a mont, but then a bit belatedly, she nodded, “What is it, brother?”
“During your interactions with Pei Yansi these days, has he done anything strange? For example, has he subtly brought up the car accident you were in before?” Chen Wenzhou watched Chen Lingng intently, not fully trusting her even though she was his sister.
It’s impossible to hide one’s initial microexpressions, and Chen Lingng clearly flinched upon hearing Chen Wenzhou’s question.
She recalled how Pei Yansi had asked her if she liked a Klein Blue dress. That day, the car crash site had topped the trending searches, and the person involved in the accident had been wearing a dress of that exact color.
Her hands, resting on her knees, clenched the fabric of her skirt unconsciously, wrinkling it. Chen Wenzhou noticed her gesture and his expression beca even more stern.
“So, what is it, ngng? Did you rember sothing?” Chen Wenzhou asked urgently, as this was no trivial matter.
However, this ti Chen Lingng didn’t respond truthfully. Instead, she shook her head, “No, these days he’s only been with to chat and talk. He hasn’t reopened my scars.”
“Really?” Chen Wenzhou was clearly skeptical of her answer, as her involuntary movents and expressions raised suspicion.
“Of course it’s true. You’re my brother; when have I ever lied to you?” Chen Lingng, feeling guilty, even raised the pitch of her voice. Chen Wenzhou saw through it but decided not to pursue it further and just nodded.
“As long as there’s nothing to it.”
Chen Lingng bit her lip, unable to resist the drive of her curiosity, and asked him, “Brother, why did you suddenly bring this up?”
Even though he knew Chen Lingng was hiding sothing from him, Chen Wenzhou still shared his suspicions with her.
“I find Pei Yansi’s recent whereabouts suspicious, and I suspect he’s investigating the car accident. If that’s the case, we can’t ignore it.”
“What are you saying?”
“Brother Yansi is investigating the accident? But why, when it happened so long ago?” Chen Wenzhou brought up these points, and Chen Lingng’s heart began to race. Now, hearing him say it outright, she almost stood up in agitation.
