Chapter 33: Chapter 33: Questioning

“It’s you,” Bai Sheng’er smiled slightly, her appearance seemingly harmless, and asked, “Are you looking for President Pei?”

Liu ng nodded.

“This is not the right ti.”

Liu ng felt awkward and glanced at the tightly closed office door, recalling Bai Sheng’er’s relationship with President Pei… She didn’t insist any further. “Then I will co back later.”

“Hold on,” Bai Sheng’er stopped her, “Can we step aside to talk?”

Liu ng intended to please her, given her influence with President Pei, and did not refuse.

...

The two of them glanced at the tea room, which was empty at that mont, and walked in.

Bai Sheng’er sat on the sofa and spoke first, “It seems you have so opinions about Director Shen, and so do I. The enemy of my enemy is my friend, and if you trust , we can join forces to drive her out of the company.”

Liu ng had never liked Shen Heyu.

No reason, other than her almost flawless work performance and her usually aloof deanor, which made Liu ng feel looked down upon.

She asked, “What do you want to do?”

“Once you agree, I will certainly tell you. I know President Pei, and I think it’s feasible, but it’s sothing I cannot do alone.”

Liu ng thought for a mont and agreed directly.

She had been waiting for a promotion, and without Shen Heyu, she could beco a director.

*

Shen Heyu felt tired after lunch.

Lu Yi cleaned up the leftover food and threw it into the trash can, then sat by the bed and kept her company with Lu Yunlan.

Just a few minutes later, Old Mrs. Pei arrived.

She pushed open the door of the hospital room, surprised to find other people there. She paused, then asked Shen Heyu, “Are these your friends?”

Shen Heyu nodded and introduced everyone.

Old Mrs. Pei kept praising, saying it was good to have friends around when sick. Noticing Pei Yansi hadn’t visited Shen Heyu, she felt both annoyed and sowhat guilty. Owing to this guilt, she stayed a bit longer to keep her company.

During the visit, she noticed Lu Yi’s gaze toward Shen Heyu wasn’t quite right.

As soone close to entering the grave herself, she understood imdiately that he might be coveting Shen Heyu and felt a bit more prejudiced against him.

Sensing Old Mrs. Pei’s hostility, Lu Yi left since there was a patient present.

Old Mrs. Pei, knowing Lu Yunlan was his sister, purposely remarked, “Heyu, I told you last ti to hurry up and have a child with Yansi. Any good news yet?”

Hearing this, Lu Yunlan felt disdainful but said nothing.

Shen Heyu blushed and awkwardly said, “We’re trying; such things can’t be rushed.”

“Okay, okay, as long as you’re really trying. I just worry you might be deceiving together.”

“We will do it as soon as possible.”

Shen Heyu was rely appeasing her, sothing everyone knew but no one pointed out.

Old Mrs. Pei stayed for a while then left.

Lu Yunlan then said, “This grandmother seems tricky to deal with, right?”

“No, she’s quite good to .”

Though not in a profoundly deep way, considering there was no blood relation, she did well enough. Pei Yansi didn’t have a mother, and Shen Heyu didn’t have a mother-in-law, but she played the role quite well.

Lu Yunlan didn’t respond, and just then, Shen Heyu’s phone rang.

She looked at it; it was a call from Yun Duo.

“Director Shen, there’s been an incident at the company. Are you busy? Why haven’t you co to the office?”

Shen Heyu frowned, “What happened?”

“It’s about that shopping mall; they’re saying there are so issues with the terms, which don’t match what we initially agreed upon; the contract has been altered, and now they’re making a fuss about not cooperating.”

Shen Heyu knew how much Pei Yansi valued this shopping mall; she imdiately hung up the phone and decided to rush back to the company.

Lu Yunlan was startled by her reaction, “What are you doing? You don’t have to go to such lengths; after all, it is your husband’s company.”

“You don’t understand.”

Shen Heyu was firm; precisely because it was Pei Yansi’s company, she couldn’t allow even the slightest mistake.

Lu Yunlan knew her temperant and sighed without saying more, fearing for her safety, and escorted her all the way to the Pei Building.

Shen Heyu got out of the car and ran into the office, contacting the contract party to ask about the situation, only to find out everything had been resolved. She found it strange and asked, “Who resolved it?”

“President Pei personally ca. Didn’t he tell you?” The other party was also very surprised.

Shen Heyu frowned. Pei Yansi had handled it himself and hadn’t consulted her; this was very unlike him.

She asked another question, “How was the contract changed?”

“How would I know your company’s dealings? Soone called, saying there had been so changes since our original discussion and sent over a new contract. When I looked at it, it felt like mockery.”

“What was the phone number?”

The other party imdiately sent her the number.

Shen Heyu returned to the company and used her personal phone to call the number, and the person on the other end quickly answered.

A simple “hello” revealed her identity.

With a sweet and sticky voice, the kind that could have n wrapped around her finger—Bai Sheng’er!

Shen Heyu was infuriated; she couldn’t stay calm and directly hung up the phone and headed to Bai Sheng’er’s office.

“Director Shen?” Bai Sheng’er was startled by her sudden arrival, then noticed her cold expression, recalling that mysterious call, and imdiately realized what was happening.

Shen Heyu cut straight to the point, “Do you want to handle this face-to-face, or shall we deal with it privately?”

Bai Sheng’er’s voice was tender, “Director Shen, what’s the matter? If it’s confidential work, perhaps we shouldn’t discuss it here.”

There were other interns in the office.

Shen Heyu could tell she was trying to cover up, but she didn’t expose her. On the other hand, she knew that if she publicly embarrassed her, Pei Yansi would certainly bla her.

Bai Sheng’er ca outside by herself and led the way into the elevator.

Shen Heyu didn’t give it much thought and followed her.

But she noticed Bai Sheng’er pressed the button for the top floor.

After getting out of the elevator, they climbed a set of stairs to the company rooftop.

Shen Heyu sneered, “Feeling guilty like a thief?”

Bai Sheng’er blinked, “I don’t know what you’re talking about. Wasn’t it you who said to handle this privately? What exactly is the matter?”

Her face showed an innocent expression, blinking her wet eyes at Shen Heyu.

That very coquettish deanor, manipulating n all around.

Shen Heyu couldn’t care less about how she handled herself, but she had better not ss with her. She coldly spoke, “You can continue playing dumb, but I’ll only say this—deal with openly if you must confront , don’t engage in underhanded actions, especially not at work.”

“Once sothing goes wrong at work, if President Pei lays the bla, neither you nor I can bear it.”

After she finished speaking, she saw Bai Sheng’er’s eyes fill with tears, and the next second they began to fall as she choked, “I really don’t know what you’re talking about…”

No matter how patient Shen Heyu was, she was disgusted by her act.

She couldn’t be bothered to deal with her anymore, “Cry all you want, I’m going to tell President Pei about this.”
