Chapter 321: Chapter 321 The End

Pei Yansi was startled when he heard her voice.

Her speech, tinged with faint crying, grievance, and reluctance. Even in her sleep, in monts of incoherence, he seed to be able to detect the sadness in her tone.

He suddenly rembered her forr identity.

A pang of pain followed in Pei Yansi’s heart.

He could probably guess what kind of dream Shen Heyu had had. He gently reached out his hand and slowly wiped away her tears, then said to her, “I won’t leave, I’ll always be here with you.”

Shen Heyu couldn’t hear his words, continuously encased in her own nightmares. Her grip on Pei Yansi grew stronger and stronger, with no signs of awakening, as tears ceaselessly stread from the corner of her eyes, “Please, don’t leave behind…”

“We promised to rely on each other for life…”

If at first Pei Yansi didn’t know who she was referring to in her dream, then by now, her words were enough to make it clear.

She had dreamt of Shen Fanshuang.

The one who had depended on each other for life, only to be killed by Shen Jiangli. His heart ached as he tightly held Shen Heyu’s hand. Even if he didn’t know whether she could hear him, he still tenderly comforted her, “Don’t be afraid, I’ll always be here, with you.”

Shen Heyu soon fell back into her dream, releasing her grip on him. Her brows, initially furrowed deeply, gradually relaxed.

It was as if she had let go of sothing in her dream.

Truth be told, this sensation was very foreign; no one had ever let go of sothing in a dream before.

Pei Yansi looked at his wristwatch; it was already 2 a.m. When he shifted his gaze away, he saw that Shen Heyu, lying in the bed, had opened her eyes at so unknown ti, staring straight at the ceiling.

Yet those eyes were dull, lifelessly dim without any luster. She lay motionless, simply staring at the ceiling light, not uttering a single word.

Her sudden stiffness made Pei Yansi sowhat unaccustod and a little panicked. He reached out his hand and waved it in front of Shen Heyu before asking, “What’s wrong?”

Shen Heyu seed to snap back to reality, turning her head to look at him, “Why are you here?”

As if she were the one with amnesia, Pei Yansi felt inexplicably irritated. He watched her face and asked in return, “Did you dream of Shen Fanshuang?”

Shen Heyu didn’t respond.

She frowned at him, then glanced around at the environnt, slowly recalling what had happened before she lost consciousness. She felt pain on the back of her hand and seed to realize only then that she had an IV drip.

She looked out the window at the thick, ink-like night and asked back without answering his question, “What ti is it?”

Pei Yansi reported a ti.

It was already the early hours of the morning, and yet he sat by her bed, still impeccably dressed. Shen Heyu vaguely sensed sothing as she looked at him and asked, “Have you been here all night?”

Had he never left, always been there with her?

Pei Yansi nodded indifferently, as if it were a matter of course to him and not sothing to make a fuss over, as he looked at her pale face with concern and asked, “Did you dream of her?”

Even without stating it explicitly, both knew who he ant by ‘her’.

Shen Heyu nodded, “I dreamt of the past, the ti when she left .”

The dream felt too vivid, especially the wrenching pain of Shen Fanshuang leaving her behind.

Pain that spread from the heart to all the limbs.

She silently calculated the ti in her mind and suddenly realized with a start that, in fact, her sister had left her nearly a decade and a half ago.

In those years, Shen Heyu had no one to rely on; before her daughter was born, she had no family, staggering through this world all alone.

The man beside her seed so familiar yet so strange.

He had been by her side for many years, yet he still failed to make her feel familiar with him, and to feel safe.

Pei Yansi’s world had never left her, and now he easily saw through what she was thinking.

His voice was cool, “It’s because you refuse to accept .”

He had given everything he could for her, sched for her wellbeing, and was willing to give even his life.

Unfortunately, she remained trapped in the past, never willing to look at him directly.

Shen Heyu didn’t know what his abrupt words ant, but she could tell they weren’t kind. She felt tired and closed her eyes.

She didn’t want to see him anymore, nor did she wish to have too much interaction with him.

Seeing her like this, Pei Yansi didn’t press her further. He remained seated in his original spot, watching the drip bag beside her, keeping an eye on the remaining volu.

He sat there the entire night.

Until the next morning when Shen Heyu awoke, she felt soone lying beside her.

She turned to look and, as she had initially anticipated, Pei Yansi was beside her, his eyes tightly shut, deep in sleep.

His sleep was peaceful, his features handso, his breathing even. The early morning sunlight fell on his face, softening his finely sculpted facial contours with a gentle touch.

For a mont, Shen Heyu couldn’t bring herself to disturb this tranquil image of him.

After all, it was rare for him to let down all his defenses and coldness in front of her, revealing his most genuine self.

She gently lifted her head and saw that her IV had finished, and a cotton pad was taped to the back of her hand.

It didn’t hurt.

Without needing to think, she knew that Pei Yansi must have watched over her until the drip was finished before lying down.

Their distance was very close now, and she gently noticed the dark shadows beneath his eyes, a clear sign he hadn’t slept well last night.

As if sensing Shen Heyu’s observation, Pei Yansi suddenly opened his eyes, his voice hoarse as he asked, “What are you looking at?”

Shen Heyu quickly averted her gaze, as if caught sneaking a look, feeling a bit nervous, “Nothing.”

“Nothing, yet you were looking at ?” Pei Yansi was relentless. He pulled Shen Heyu into his arms and brushed against her cheek tenderly, asking, “Do you feel better now? Does anything else feel uncomfortable?”

His voice was filled with concern and sincerity. In an unusual turn, Shen Heyu didn’t retort, “Much better, I don’t feel discomfort anywhere, thank you.”

Hearing the last two words, Pei Yansi frowned in displeasure.

“Why are you thanking ?”

Shen Heyu didn’t speak, unsure why he was going mad again. It was just two words, and even those seed to make him angry.

Pei Yansi looked at her coldly, quite displeased, “If I hear those two words from you again, I will make sure to deal with you properly.”

Shen Heyu didn’t reply, knowing well that he always ant what he said.

Pei Yansi didn’t want to lose his temper with her again. He was considerate of the fact she was still ill and adopted a gentler tone, “Are you hungry?”

Shen Heyu nodded.

At this point, she was so hungry she could feel her stomach sticking to her spine.

Pei Yansi understood, and he arranged for a al to be brought in. Then he continued to hold her, saying, “Lu Yi called earlier.”
