Chapter 253: Chapter 253: Interrogation Chapter 253: Chapter 253: Interrogation “It’s what you’ve done yourself that compels people to think this way,” Shen Heyu didn’t mince her words as she outright asked, “So what’s the reason you’re investigating Shen Jiangli this ti?”

She stood beside Pei Yansi’s desk, her cold gaze burning into him with intensity. If he didn’t give her an answer, it appeared she wouldn’t let it go easily.

Pei Yansi was also looking at her.

He didn’t know how to tell her that he hadn’t decided yet about the matter of Shen Jiangli harming Shen Fanshuang—whether to tell her a kind lie or to plainly reveal the truth.

It seed like either option wouldn’t bode well for her.

After all, the fact that Shen Jiangli had hard Shen Fanshuang was set in stone. Whether he chose to tell a well-intentioned lie or not, it couldn’t be changed.

Seeing that Pei Yansi remained silent, Shen Heyu sensed sothing, furrowed her brows tightly, and her eyes filled with dissatisfaction as she demanded, “So are you truly scheming against him?”

Pei Yansi shook his head and said, “If I say no, will you believe ?”

“Do you think I would believe you?” Shen Heyu retorted. The things he had done, whether in the past or now, seed to leave no room for belief.

Pei Yansi sighed and said, “If you don’t believe , then my answer seems aningless.”

“Whether or not I believe you is my business, and whether or not you speak is yours. But it still involves the issue of your attitude,” said Shen Heyu firmly.

She wouldn’t get caught up in Pei Yansi’s thought processes.

She still wanted to understand, to know the truth. Was he really out to get Shen Jiangli, and if so, what should she do to help Shen Jiangli?

That’s why she now wanted to pry the answer out of him.

Pei Yansi watched her quietly for a long while, apparently understanding her thoughts. He put down the pen in his hand and beckoned Shen Heyu closer with a wave of his hand, saying, “Co to .”

Shen Heyu didn’t move from her spot.

Impatient, Pei Yansi thought to himself how she was still the sa as before—every ti another man was ntioned, she would get angry with him. Were other n really that important? More important than herself or her daughter’s father?

Jealousy began to rise within him again.

When she still didn’t move, he stood up from his chair, walked around the desk, and approached Shen Heyu.

She saw his towering figure drawing near, casting a shadow over her, creating an absolute sense of oppression, and she subconsciously stepped back two paces in apprehension.

However, at that mont, Pei Yansi suddenly reached out and grabbed her wrist, pulling her into his embrace. Only then did he lower his head and gaze deeply into her eyes, saying,

“Can’t you trust just this once? Why do you always think I’m out to get them?”

Shen Heyu found herself held in his embrace, the familiar sensation flooding through her once again, causing her to fear she wouldn’t be able to escape him, and she struggled subtly:

“I’m only suspicious of you. If it’s not you, just say it. Why resort to physicality? Let go!”

She struggled violently in his arms.

Pei Yansi furrowed his brow, seeing her fierce resistance, and he didn’t continue to restrain her any longer, releasing his hold on her.

Now free, she quickly backed away, creating distance between them, and asked him calmly, “So what are you really after? If it’s not plotting against him, and your conscience is clear, why can’t you tell ?”

“Do you really want to know?” Pei Yansi asked as he quietly looked at her.

He inched closer to her quietly.

As she noticed his approach, she thought to retreat but was preempted by Pei Yansi, who promptly said, “I won’t touch you, don’t get agitated. Sit down, let’s have a proper talk.”

He spoke in a very gentle voice, and his expression was equally mild, with not a hint of malice visible.

It was as if he had returned to his normal self.

Whenever Shen Heyu saw Pei Yansi like this, she couldn’t help but let down her guard, her spirit relaxing ever so slightly.

She walked over and sat down on the sofa, “Don’t lay a hand on .”

Pei Yansi nodded, fearful that she would truly get angry. It wasn’t even New Year’s yet, and there she was, running off. He sat down next to her, his back ramrod straight, like an employee being scolded by a superior.

“So if you’re not out to harm him, then tell the truth. What exactly are you investigating him for?” Shen Heyu continued the previous topic.

She had even sowhat forgotten the initial reason she had co here.

Pei Yansi looked at her deeply for a mont, still struggling internally. Should he tell her now?

If she didn’t believe him, how would he handle the situation?

“Why don’t you speak?” Seeing his silence made Shen Heyu feel unexplainably uneasy—he had never shown this kind of attitude before. He was often calm and indifferent.

If even Pei Yansi was showing such unease and conflict, then it was very likely that sothing had gone wrong.

“Is it that difficult to answer?” she frowned, growing impatient. “Or are you just stringing along?”

“I looked into him because of Shen Fanshuang’s matter,” Pei Yansi finally spoke after much internal conflict. The truth of this affair was bound to be told to her, wasn’t it?

As Shen Fanshuang’s only relative, it didn’t make sense for her not to know about it. She had that right. As for well-intentioned lies, Pei Yansi believed she didn’t need them.

What she needed was for Shen Jiangli to face legal punishnt, to pay the price for Shen Fanshuang’s death. Not to remain in the dark, knowing nothing, still being friends with the killer.

Hearing his words, Shen Heyu vaguely sensed that sothing wasn’t right. “What do you an by that?”

How could Shen Jiangli possibly be linked to her sister’s death?

Her mind was a ss, and she couldn’t understand why for a mont.

Pei Yansi looked at her quietly, taking in every expression on her face.

She was sowhat panicked, even a bit incredulous, her beautiful eyes filled with shock and hesitation.

“Literally,” Pei Yansi said, seeing Shen Heyu like this, a pang of inexplicable pain clutching at his heart. He really wanted to hold her.

So he moved a bit closer to her.

Perhaps imrsed in her sorrow, she didn’t notice Pei Yansi’s approach until she ca back to her senses, by which ti he had already drawn near.

Having co this far, there was no need for her to keep evading. She said, “What have you found out?”

“What I should have found out, and what I shouldn’t have, I’ve found it all.”

Pei Yansi said this and then watched her quietly, observing her reactions.

Indeed, he noticed that her eyes were starting to redden and her expression was showing cracks. He frowned, knowing that telling her now was far too soon.

At the very least, he should give her so opportunities.

To provide her with a gradual process of acceptance, gradually reveal a bit of information, following a step-by-step approach.

“Is it him?”
