Chapter 37: Co see

Wen Zhi was still distracted when Bei Sheng’s question snapped her back to reality. She looked down and saw her trouser leg had been rolled up by Bei Sheng, revealing a horrifying scar on her knee.

She stepped back, letting the trouser leg fall, and lied, “I have scar-prone skin, and walking a lot today didn’t help with the healing.”

Bei Sheng saw right through her and reminded her, “Little Zhizhi, I am a doctor.”

What she ant was, whether it hadn’t healed due to excessive walking or it was a second deliberate injury, she could tell just by looking at the wound.

Wen Zhi, having been seen through, couldn’t explain further and obediently sat down to let Bei Sheng redress her wound.

“It probably started oozing pus last night, right?” Bei Sheng asked her.

Wen Zhi nodded, enduring the pain.

“You, you,” Bei Sheng sighed, “are really harsh on yourself.”

Wen Zhi remained silent.

Her heart was pounding nonstop, her mind filled with Bei Sheng’s words—”I heard your knee injury got worse, the boss sent

to check what’s going on.”

Shang Hexing knew.

He knew everything.

Planting fruit trees, specifically instructing Bei Sheng to treat her wound—why was he so concerned about her?

“Hiss…” Wen Zhi’s face turned white from pain.

Bei Sheng soothed her, “It’ll be over soon, just endure a bit longer. We need to clean out the pus thoroughly to avoid scarring.”

Wen Zhi gritted her teeth and endured, “Mhm.”

Two minutes later, the wound was treated. This ti, Bei Sheng applied dication and bandaged it, also giving her oral dicine. “Rember to take it.”

Wen Zhi took it, “Thank you, Sister Bei Sheng.”

“No need to thank , I’m just doing my job,” Bei Sheng said as she packed up her dical kit, kindly advising her, “Your body and your hair are gifts from your parents; take good care of yourself.”

Warmth surged in Wen Zhi’s heart.

“The food will get cold, eat up. I’ll be leaving now,” Bei Sheng wasn’t one to dawdle. After treating the wound, she was ready to leave.

Catching a glimpse of the lychee tree outside the window, Bei Sheng gave a aningful smile. At the doorway, she turned back to Wen Zhi and said, “You really are special.”

Wen Zhi was startled.

She was special…

In everyone’s eyes, wasn’t she just a pitiful person, a victim of circumstances, living at the rcy of others?

Was her misfortune what made her special?!

Just as Bei Sheng was leaving, Wen Zhi called out to her, “Sister Bei Sheng.”

Bei Sheng turned around, her bright eyes vibrant and expressive, “Go ahead, what else is there?”

Wen Zhi picked up her phone and walked towards her, “Could you give

your boss’s phone number?”

Bei Sheng looked a bit puzzled as if surprised that Wen Zhi didn’t already have Shang Hexing’s number. Nevertheless, she didn’t ask any questions and readily inford Wen Zhi of Shang Hexing’s private number.

After Bei Sheng had left,

Wen Zhi closed the door, took her phone to the window, and hesitated before finally dialing the number Bei Sheng had given her.

It rang five tis before soone on the other end picked up.

Wen Zhi pondered her opening words, and after a period of silence, the person on the other end spoke first, asking, “Who is this?”

His voice was deep and somber, betraying no emotion.

The hand holding the phone clenched and then unclenched repeatedly, her palm already sweating, and she had yet to calm down.

She hadn’t been this nervous when eting him in person.

Why was she nervous over the phone?

Wen Zhi inwardly cursed herself for her lack of composure.

Just as she mustered the courage to speak, the person on the other end of the line asked, “Is this Wen Zhi?”

Wen Zhi’s breath hitched.

This was the first ti she was calling him; how could he know it was her?
