Chapter 208: Be ntally prepared
Gu Rang suddenly fell silent.
Shang Hexing could tell from Gu Rang’s expression that there was sothing afoot, “As far as I know, you and another Mr. Zhan are considered highly trusted subordinates by your uncle, and many matters are only entrusted to the two of you.”
Gu Rang turned his face away, admitting, “Yes, Mr. Zhan and I were personally grood by President Mu.”
Shang Hexing asked in a grave voice, “So what have you hidden?”
The air seed to stagnate for a few seconds.
Gu Rang’s complexion grew increasingly complex, he thought he had hidden it well, but Shang Hexing still detected so clues.
However, he naturally wouldn’t reveal much to Shang Hexing.
Changing the topic, he asked, “Wen Zhi has already woken up, right?”
Shang Hexing, with a cold face, did not answer.
Gu Rang knew he had guessed correctly, and he was also planning to make a visit, “At this ti, I must show my face in front of her, let her know it was President Mu who sent
to see her.”
Having said that, Gu Rang left first, not giving Shang Hexing a chance to continue probing him.
After Shang Hexing withdrew his gaze, he took out his mobile phone and dialed a number.
After a few rings, the other side picked up, the voice clearly surprised, “Hexing, it’s rare for you to call .”
Shang Hexing was silent for a mont before saying, “Coming to Lailin City.”
The person on the other end of the phone was Shang Hexing’s father—Shang Jizhou.
And the reason why Shang Jizhou was surprised, as he just ntioned, was that it was rare to receive a call from Shang Hexing.
Throughout the year, father and son barely saw each other a few tis, spoke so infrequently they could count their conversations on their fingers, let alone phone calls. If there were two or three calls in a year, it was always Shang Jizhou who initiated contact with Shang Hexing.
At this mont, Shang Jizhou was still surprised by Shang Hexing’s proactive call when he suddenly heard Shang Hexing say he was going to Lailin City, and without thinking, he agreed imdiately, “Alright, I’ll book the earliest flight to Lailin City for tomorrow.”
After agreeing, Shang Jizhou then asked, “Hexing, what’s the arrangent for suddenly calling
to Lailin City?”
While walking towards the elevator, Shang Hexing said as he walked, “Wanyin is in Lin City Hospital.”
Upon hearing that it concerned his own wife, and that she was in the hospital, Shang Jizhou imdiately beca anxious, “What happened to your mother?”
Upon reaching the elevator door, Shang Hexing pressed the down button and said slowly, “Car accident, be ntally prepared before you co.”
At the ntion of being ntally prepared, Shang Jizhou’s expression drastically changed.
Shang Jizhou knew that Wanyin was visiting Lailin City, but he did not know what Wanyin was doing in Lailin City. The evening she arrived in Lailin City, they still had a video call, but they lost contact in the following days.
Initially, Shang Jizhou had planned to have another video call tonight, asking her when she would return to Bai City.
But now…
“Hexing, how is your mother now? Where is she injured? And about the car accident…”
Shang Jizhou was overly worried, trying to get so clarity during this call, to have so peace of mind.
But before he could finish, the call was abruptly ended with a busy tone, the other side had hung up the phone.
Shang Jizhou beca sowhat flustered, hurriedly trying to call Wanyin, obviously without success. He had no choice but to try calling Zhao Qin, but still, no one answered…
…
Wen Zhi was feeling very bored in the hospital room.
She ate so cookies, a few candies, and though the TV was on, she wasn’t watching. Several tis she couldn’t help but want to ask Chen Jinhai when Shang Hexing would return.
Yet, she feared that as soon as she asked, Chen Jinhai would actually make the call. What if it was at the peak of a dinner party? It would be rude to disturb them.
Although she refrained from asking, Chen Jinhai noticed her many hesitations and approached her proactively, asking, “Miss Wen, do you want to ask when Mr. Shang will be back?”
Wen Zhi imdiately shook her head, “Not at all, not at all.”
Chen Jinhai cleared his throat lightly, “Don’t worry, Mr. Shang won’t be back too late.”
Wen Zhi knew Chen Jinhai had noticed her thoughts and sowhat embarrassedly said, “Actually, it’s fine even if he cos back late.”
Suddenly she rembered sothing and imdiately asked again, “Chen Zhu, will he drink at this kind of dinner? Shouldn’t you go pick him up?”
Chen Jinhai shook his head, “No need for
to pick him up, there’s a driver there.”
“Oh.” Wen Zhi felt much relieved.
As it was almost six o’clock, Chen Jinhai contacted the hospital for al delivery.
The VIP ward had its own set als for three tis a day; if the patient or their family found ordering botherso, the hospital would arrange each al according to the patient’s condition.
Just as Chen Jinhai was about to make a call, soone suddenly knocked on the door.
Wen Zhi looked towards the door.
Chen Jinhai put away his phone and said, “I’ll get the door.”
The knocking was polite, and Wen Zhi thought it might be the doctor or nurse, so she looked away, until she heard Chen Jinhai call out, “Mr. Gu, is that you?”
Wen Zhi abruptly raised her head and looked over.
Gu Rang had already co in, his gaze sweeping around the room, and then his eyes settled on Wen Zhi. As their eyes t, he wore a gentle smile and walked quickly towards her.
“Does your hand still hurt?” Gu Rang ca over and asked.
Wen Zhi stood up, showing him her hand that was bandaged like a boxing glove, and grinned, “It’s wrapped up tight and doesn’t hurt anymore.”
Her features were clear and gentle.
The smile at the corner of her lips was pure and radiant.
This scene montarily made Gu Rang feel as if he was in a trance; he seed to see a few years back, when both President Mu and Mrs. Mu were still around, when the Wen Family was warm and bustling, Wen Zhi had just graduated from university, and everything was still beautiful.
Wen Zhi saw Gu Rang drifting in thoughts, and with her hand wrapped in gauze, she struggled to wave it in front of his eyes, “What are you thinking about?”
Gu Rang gave a wistful, bitter smile and said in a low voice, “It’s nothing.”
Wen Zhi sensed sothing was amiss and probed, “Did sothing happen?”
This question made Gu Rang’s heart skip a beat.
He composed himself with a different expression, then gestured for Wen Zhi to sit down. Once Wen Zhi sat down, he also sat down, clasped his hands together, and said, “President Mu asked
to co and check on you.”
Wen Zhi pursed her lips slightly, “Don’t ntion him in front of .”
Gu Rang’s clasped hands rubbed repeatedly, “Wen Yiwan has been pushing hard, so President Mu had to go back to Bai City first, and that’s why he couldn’t co over.”
Wen Zhi closed her eyes, showing a look of disinterest and impatience.
A tartness rose in Gu Rang’s heart, “Wen Zhi…”
“I know what you are trying to say,” Wen Zhi cut off what Gu Rang was about to continue, opening her eyes, “It’s impossible for
to let go. I can’t let go of my hatred towards Chong Wanyin, nor can I ever co to terms with him marrying Wen Yiwan.”
“But if, I an if,” Gu Rang looked at Wen Zhi with a sowhat tense expression and then said, “If President Mu hadn’t married Wen Yiwan, and they weren’t legally husband and wife, what would you think?”
Wen Zhi suddenly looked at Gu Rang, “Did you co up with this ‘if’ on your own?”
Gu Rang choked back a laugh, “Sort of.”
Wen Zhi eyed Gu Rang intently, “You’re acting strange, like you’re hiding sothing from . Were you testing what I would think with what you just said? What are you really trying to say?”
“It’s nothing, don’t overthink it,” Gu Rang imdiately denied.
Doubtful, Wen Zhi suddenly asked, “He didn’t go back to Bai City, did he?”
